We have a huge vow renewal trip for Dec 2006 planned, but want to take a shorted one week trip sometime soon. After seeing the Everest preview weekend I thought .. why not January? Hubby thinks it will be too chilly to enjoy ourselves. Can anyone tell me firsthand about the weather?

Thanks,

Crissy

Not going to be much help for you. As we've been there twice in January both times we went is on 1/20. The first time was very nice with day time temps in the 60's and night time in the low 50's. Very nice when you see it's in the 20's back home.
The next year we went and it was cold. We got in late and it was chilly we woke and it was 31 dedrees. We never wore a pair of shorts. I think the highest it got was 52. Of course a few days before we got there we were told it was in the 70's.

Crissy we take a long weekend in January, usually around MLK Day break from school, in WDW.

When I pack I usually make sure to have jeans, a sweatshirt and a rain slicker as well as warmer weather stuff that can be used in layers.

As Dan and Bill have said it can be beautiful or chilly ... but we still use the pools and hot tubs ... guess we haven't lived in the south long enough for our blood to thin :goodvibes

Like Dan, we have experienced lots of temps while staying in January. We usually go the 3rd week of January and can recall the temps during one trip in the high 70s during the day and upper 50s at night and then another trip where we had to wear our coats from home and bought hats and gloves for the kids...yes it was that cold, and the wind and dampness during that particular trip made it feel raw. Usually though, 60s during the day and 50s at night.

You will have to monitor the weather prior to your trip and dress/pack layers. I am always too warm at WDW with the exception of that one trip in January. We had just left NJ where there was a major snowstorm and cold snap. I think the entire Eastern third of the country felt the effects.

Even though the weather is "iffy" there are no waits for rides and attractions and it is never crowded and that made it very nice with little ones who don't like to wait.
Enjoy!

I think it is all relative to what you are used to. Even if it was 40s & 50s, it would be better than home for me. We went at the end of January and wore capris most of the time. I'm sure a lot of the locals & those who were used to warm weather were bundled up more. It seems like it was high 60s most of the time we were there.

We went once the first week of Feb. and on another trip the last week of January. The Feb. trip it was low 80's all week and cooler at night, but not that bad. The late January trip (in 2003) the Southeast was going through VERY cold temps (we knew before we left). In fact..it was colder in FL then it was in No. VA! But it wasn't that bad. We wore sweatshirts or a coat and were still able to ride the rides w/o our faces freezing in position. DD still swam (but was cold getting out). Then after 3 days of that it was in the low 70s. I don't think it gets too intolerable, but you may not be able to wear shorts alot. Late Jan/early Feb. is our absolute favorite time to go (no crowds, no high heat and humidity, and everyone is in REALLY good moods because there aren't any crowds!), but we have kids in school and can't always go, but once in awhile.

We had unusual weather last January when we were down there-it was in the 80's for about 10 straight days. You can usually count on it getting near 70 as a general rule. The nights can get cool in the 50"s.

We have taken many January trips, and have had highs from 98 down to the low 50's and lows from 35 up to 60. I would say most days it is mid 60's to mid 70's with lows around mid 50's. It is always so much nicer than home, we really don't care. The only time it gets a bit chilly is if the sun isn't out. We usually wear our winter coats on the plane, because we know we will need them when we get back to the airport at home, and then we have them for an occational cool evening at Illuminations or Fantasmic. It's mostly a crap shoot when it comes to the weather in January, so we mostly pack jeans with a pair of shorts thrown in and both short and long sleeved tops. We layer if we have to. I pack light anyway and wash daily, so it isn't an issue.

We were there for the marathon this year (Jan '05) and it was in the 80's most days, we only wore sweatshirts one night, I'm praying for the same in three weeks!

We have been three times during Jan all three times during marathon weekend. The first two times were wonderful about 70's during the day and 50's at night. The last time we went it was about 50's to 60's during the day and 40's at night. I have been told it is hit or miss with the weather during Jan....
