Last Day- Animal Kingdom

The family next door must have checked out because the ALARM woke me up today, at 8:00. We had a 9:00 P.S. at the Kona cafe. The tonga toast was all I had expected and more. YUM! DH is not a breakfast guy, but went for my benefit. Needless to say, his omelet made him queasy all morning.

We left for the Animal Kindgom around 10:30 and by this time it was POURING! We didn't let it get us down. We bought ponchos and an umbrella at the gift shop, and we set out for the park with smiles on our faces. It was good that we had optimistic attitudes, because it rained all day long! We didn't let it slow us down. We still did everything, and there was nobody in the park! It was crazy! On the way to conservation station we had a whole train car to ourselves, and on the safari, we had the whole vehicle to ourselves. The guide said that he had never led a two person safari before! We had a great time. The character interaction was unbelievable all week, and especially today. We got so many cute pictures with characters. We usually don't o this at all, because we don't have kids, and there are always long lines. On this trip the characters were coming to US! It was so fun. We left around 4:00, and bussed to AKL. We changed clothes (I had packed a change of outfits for each of us for dinner) and I checked our bag at the guest services desk so I wouldn't have to drag it to the restaurant. We didn't get a rental car this time, so we had to be creative using the Disney transportation to get to our various dinner locations. For this one, we decided to go right from the park, but we didn't want to wear our park clothes for a nice dinner.

We had a great time exploring the hotel. It's so beautiful and we really liked watching the animals. The rain let up for a little while and we walked around outside to see them better. We walked down to the level where the restaurants are, and for some reason, i switched our PS from Jiko to Boma. The offerings at Boma looked wonderful- especiallythe desserts! The meal was good, and I would go back, but I wish we had done Jiko, because it was our last night, and a special night. Boma was yummy, but not really romantic & special (the atmosphere) the service was very good though, and the chefs were just wonderful about describing the food as you approached each "pod." (the name for different areas on the buffet) It was a nice meal, and I'll go back. I think we should have done it earlier in the week, and then done Jiko for our romantic, special, last meal at Disney. Oh well. Everything is special at Disney to me. The Lodge was beautiful and I'm so glad we got a chance to check it out. I definately want to stay there on a future trip.

After dinner we hopped a bus to Downtown Disney and I got off at the marketplace, DH rode down to the West side. I wanted to do some more shopping and he wanted to play at Disney Quest some more. We had purchased the ultimate park passes, which gives you access to everything, and he wanted to utilize the Quest some more. It worked out great. I still had disney dollars to blow, and I had fun on my own. I met DH about an hour later at Disney Quest and we had fun there for another hour. We rode the virtual jungle cruise and I always like that one. It was a great night.

When we got back to the Poly I was on a mission to find a Polynesian Hotel postcard. I settled for a photograph card of the lobby. We walked the grounds a last time (the pool, beach, watched the castle change colors) packed, and sadly went to bed. We had a 6:15 am pickup for the airport.

It was a wonderful trip. We have definately had more romantic, special trips to Disney, one being our engagement trip, and one being our honeymoon, but on both of those trips the parks were packed, and so our park experiences were not like this time. Those trips were special just because we were together. On this trip, the parks were just incredible. We walked on every ride, and the customer service was wonderful everywhere. We got lots of character pictures and just had a leisurely, enjoyable trip. There were no lines, no stresses, no crabby moments, the weather was comfortable, and we spent less than we planned. How often can you say that of a Disney trip? It was great. Thanks for reading!
