January or September?

If you had your choice between the two, which would you choose?

Our original plan was to go in May, but DH and I are considering a change. I'm looking for low crowd level and cool temps.

I know that Sept has a risk of hurricanes and Jan has a chance of fairly cold temps.

Tell me your experiences, please!

If you're looking for cool temps, and your choice is only between Jan and Sept, then January is definitely the month for you. September is hot and humid. It's usually the month that free dining is offered, however.

Hope this helps!

yeah, Jan is my choice. I prefer the cooler temps. Dh, on the other hand, likes it a bit steamy. However, if we wants me to be a "happy wife", then cooler is the way to go! LOL

Never done the Sept time frame but have for like 5 or 6 times the July/August time frame and have done the Jan time frame (actually from around mid Dec to mid Jan) like 6 times and we much prefer the Jan period since sometime after around the 6th or do the parks are deserted. This year we will be there from 16 Dec (earliest arrival ever) and will stay till 25 Jan (latest ever) so this is a new one for us.

If you prefer to use the pools during some down time, then go in Sept. Also if you want to do Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, again go in Sept. Free dining has been offered in Sept. But January is better if you are not a pool person or don't want to do a Halloween thing. Late Sept was very hot when we went.

I always vote January lol. September is hotter, and with the free dining will be a little more crowded.

Although we've had chilly days when we've gone in Jan/Feb we've never been uncomfortably cold. (We're from the Midwest and in wintertime what's "cold" in Florida is a great escape for us!)
We've always been able to go swimming as well. :)

We have done both September and January. Now we only go in the winter months as September was was very hot and humid. We did go one January where the temps were in the 30's and we were wearing jackets and gloves during the day and not going out after dark but the other 4 January trips have had mild weather. Weather is a risk on any vacation but we prefer to wear jackets over desperately seeking shade.

Thanks so much

I think we are leaning towards January. I really get very grumpy in the heat, and for DH's sanity, I think Jan is a better bet.

We aren't going to stay on property this time :sad2: , so free dining will do us no good.

I think it's decided!

January, 2009!! Sooo far away, but better than May, 09!

Another vote for January! We went last January and really enjoyed the lower crowds and lower temps. We had a few days that were in the low 80s and some days where it barely hit 60 as a high. To us this was perfect touring weather. We enjoyed it so much we will be there is January 2008!

I just returned from Disney World on Wednesday. It was hot and humid, but I thought the crowds were low. It was my first time there so I have nothing to compare it to. I think January would be much cooler and even lower crowds. I am planning a September 08 return.

We just returned from our 9/14 - 9/22 trip. Now, don't get me wrong, we did have a great time. Afterall, it is Disney World and we are Disney fanatics, but we will never (and I mean never) go in September again. It was very crowded and very hot (I don't mean a little hot. I mean sweltering. When you came out of an air-conditioned ride and walked out in the heat it would take your breath way hot). I live in Alabama, I know what hot is and it was hot, hot hot. Did I mention it was hot?

It rained at least a little bit every afternoon we were there. On Thurday, without any warning, no menacing clouds or noticeable wind change, the sky just opened up and poured. It poured so hard, it was like the sky opened up and dumped a bucket of water on your head. There wasn't even time to put our ponchos on. By the time we drug everyone's ponchos out and put them on the rain stopped. We then left for our Ohana ADR looking like someone had just thrown us in the hotel pool - literally socked to the bone.

We did have awesome food on our trip. We ate at Chef Mickey's, Liberty Tree, Planet Hollywood, 50's Primetime Cafe, Garden Grill, Cinderella's Royal Table, Ohana (best meal we had), and Crystal Palce. We had ADRs for all and always had to wait at least 20 minutes for our table. Saw them turning away walk-ups at all restaurants. Counter service was not too crowded, but we tried to eat early around 11:30 a.m.

I am a faithful fan of the UG and if it weren't for knowing about their touring plans and knowing how to utilize the Fastpasss system the lines would not have been manageable. There was the occasion that you walked up to something in the late afternoon and there was only a 10 or 15 minute wait, but most of the headliners kept 30 minute or more waits. At MK yesterday Space Mountain had a 65 minute wait at 3:30 p.m!

When we left we had every intention of booking the Free Diningbounceback for next September that they were offering, but after the terrible heat and crowds my husband said he would happily pay the $1300 we saved on this free dining trip and put it towards a slower, cooler time to visit.

We have previously been at the end of January into the first part of February and have also been end of November into first of December and those are the times we will be planning our future WDW vacations.
