January Discounts & AKL Questions

Hi there everyone. We're starting to get into the Disney planning mode! We're planning on going down in January, and spending 3 nights at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge, probably a 1BR. However, we have two nights before those that we'd like to try another resort, and have our eyes on AKL. I see that the current discounts (for travel right now) have AKL at $114 per night. Is this rate usually offered in January?

And, what are the best standard rooms at AKL? We would like the 2 queens. Any with views? Are the any ground level ones with patios?

Do you mean standard view or standard size rooms? There is a difference. We had 3 standard view rooms this past May and they were pretty good. All the standard view rooms face the front of the lodge and the parking lots. Our rooms were on the ostrich trail third floor. These were the lobby floor but they were not ground level. We had regular balconies that faced the handicap parking but with all the foliage we couldn't really see any cars. The view wasn't bad at all.The rooms were very quiet and nice and the hallway windows faced the savannah. HTH

We'd be looking at the standard view rooms. Glad to hear you got nice ones. Did you find it disappointing at all to not have a view of the animals? Thanks!

We were there last December. There are no first floor patio rooms but the second floor is great for upclose viewing of the animals. We were 2nd floor Kudu Trail and loved it. The lower floors have some obstructed views of animals due to trees and vegetation but the higher floor can have obstructed views due to tree tops. Even if you don't have a Savannah room there are many common areas for viewing.
