What are the crowds in January? Planning a family trip but looking for smaller crowds.

We always go in January. As long as you stay away from MLK week, you will be fine. We always get on just about every attraction. If it's more than 20 min then we just skip it...although with new fastpass + you can already have your reservations made for the big ticket attractions anyway. We love January!

I think our next trip may be in January. How are the park hours and extra fun stuff to do?

Our past 2 trips have been in January specifically for that reason. Low crowds. As other poster said - avoid MLK weekend.

You also want to avoid the first week in January when they have the marathon. It was very crowded when we went at that time several years ago.

We almost always plan our trip to Disney to include the 1st week in January. We have found that after the New Years holiday, it slows down a lot. New years Eve is really busy but, you should expect that. We love that time of year.:yay:

We just booked to arrive 1/1 and leave 1/7. The crowd calendar for the 2-4 says it will be very crowded, is it not as bad as predictions?

We are likely going in January either the end of the first week through the second week or the end of the second week through the third week.

The half marathon is on the 11th so we are concerned about crowds this day. Also if we arrive at the tail end of the first week we are concerned about left over New Years crowds.

Anyone have experience with these weeks? Do you remember how long you waited for rides, such as small world, Peter pans flight, haunted mansion, etc?

It is still usually pretty busy the first 2 weeks of January, school is still out, it slows down a bit after marathon weekend. January is a big convention month in Orlando so it is fairly busy all month. The first week of February really dies down.

what the crowd calendars say is true.some years it does get really quiet after new years day BUT that will NOT happen in 2014.the reason is A LOT of schools will not be back in session until jan.6.

We are going this year on 2-9 in Jan. We've never been but sine DD isn't going back to school until the 13th I figured let's give it a shot. We get to the see the Christmas decorations, which is something I've always wanted to do, plus celebrate DD's birthday, which is what she wished for last year. I think the 6th - 9th will be minimal crowds and the weekend for the marathon will be more crowded but not anywhere where it is for MLK weekend. That's just from what I've heard.

I was there over the half-marathon in 2011 and didn't notice too much of a change in crowd levels. Actually, that trip was great, crowd-wise, and I think we arrived on Jan 3rd.
