Day Three

Our Family - Steve (DH), Isabel (DD4) and Sharon (Me)

We woke up after a very creaky night on the ship. Personally, this doesn't bother me at all - it actually lulls me to sleep. It does make walking down a straight hallway a challenge but I think it's kinda fun. We weren't in a hurry to go anywhere so we lazed around. Steve went up to Topsiders and brought back breakfast for everyone - Mickey waffles, bagels, cream cheese and capers, fruit. We watched "Beauty and the Beast" on TV while we ate.

When we finally got up and around, Isabel wanted to head to the Oceaneer Club to learn to be a Mouseketeer with Mickey and friends. While Steve took her, I wandered out on the verandah in my nightgown, put my feet up and watched the ocean go by, enjoying the sound of the waves and the beauty of the water. It's pretty amazing what thoughts go through your head when you finally take time to just be still and live in the moment. I sat there realizing that both great and awful things happen to us and we don't deserve either - we just need to live in the moment and go for the ride. There's nothing I could have done leading up to this moment in my life that would make me "deserve" this wonderful experience any more or less than someone else. It's just fate or grace, perhaps, if you believe in that. I heard a public radio show just before we left for vacation that was telling about a theory that our psyches can't really distinguish between incredibly joyful and incredibly painful experiences - they can only measure intensity. I think our "usual" intense moments are due to pain or stress. But how fortunate I was to be having this intensely pleasant, blissful moment and how lucky I was to recognize it right then and there. Okay, enough of that. :boat:

After we picked up Isabel from the club, we met at Lumiere's for a lovely sit-down lunch. Steve and I had delicious Mushroom Risotto. In the middle of lunch, Isabel had to use the rest room. Well, we headed the wrong way, I think. We had to walk all the way to forward on the ship to rest rooms near Beat Street. But it was a serendipitous adventure because we discovered the large portholes where you can curl up with a nice book or just sit and daydream as you watch the ocean.

We spent the afternoon relaxing and watching Isabel swim. We had a 6pm reservation for Palo so Isabel headed to the Oceaneers Club and she would stay through dinner (her table mate/friend Alyssa also planned to eat at the club that evening).

What a great meal we had at Palo. Jemma was our server. Everything was delicious and lovely, from the bread to my filet and Steve’s salmon. We were stuffed and then it was time for dessert. I had read on the boards how marvelous the chocolate soufflé was and I wondered just how “marvelous” a soufflé could really be. Oh, yum. I had vanilla sauce in mine – Steve had a combo of vanilla and chocolate sauce. I seriously considered picking up the ramekin and licking it clean but I kept my composure. But here’s the new concept that I learned during our meal. Jemma not only brought us our soufflés but also Panna Cotta on the side, which was equally delicious. Dessert with dessert on the side. This may become my new mantra. It’s an idea whose time has come, I believe.

We picked up Isabel and we all went to see “Hercules”. We had not seen this show on the Wonder when we cruised before so we wanted to check it out this time. I thought it was okay – some of the lines are dated but from what I understand, this is probably their longest running show right now. It wasn’t really for kids Isabel’s age, either. But, she paid attention and was wide awake at the end and wanted to return to the Oceaneer Club (she’s always afraid she’ll miss something if she goes to bed). So, we let her return for an hour while we promenaded on the Promenade Deck. It was so nice to just stroll and sit on deck chairs and talk.

Isabel was wired and running around the Captain’s Closet when picked her up. She was chattering a hundred miles a minute on the way to the room and then collapsed into bed as soon as we got to the room. So did we. :flower1:

Sounds like your DD4 had a wonderful time!! doesn't it make it all worth while to see that smile on our kids face! thanks for sharing a great report...looking forward to reading more :flower1:
