This is my first post on these forums, but I thought I would ask the experts.

My wife and I are planning a trip in January 2010. We were thinking of spending a few days in San Diego and then going to DL January 5-8.

To give a bit of background, my wife and I will be travelling by ourselves with our two kids, ages 5 and 2, and my wife is going to be 7 months pregnant in January. That said, we are surely looking to go at a time when the crowds are LOW to avoid the stress of trying to manage 2 kids under the age of 6 with a very pregnant wife.

I heard that January is an awesome time to go if you are trying to avoid crowds, but I am worried about New Year's crowds. Do New Year's crowds die down by January 5? Does it matter that January 1 is a Friday this year and we will be at Disney the following Tuesday? If we are trying to avoid heavy crowds (and we are), would we be smarter to wait another week or two?

Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks.

The end of the official holiday season will be January 3rd. So, going mid-week any day after that in January will guarantee you some of the lowest crowds you will ever find at DLR.

However, you can also count on HM or IASW being down for removal of the holiday overlays. You can also count on no fireworks mid-week and no Fantasmic at all. Entertainment offerings drop dramatically during the off-season.

HTH!

I have gone that time of year and agree it should be a very nice time to go. Low crowd levels are fantastic I actually prefer to not go on IASW and I don't do ghosts so it works great! Have fun!

WE were there a few years ago from Jan 4 to Jan 6. It was soooo quiet, particularly as they were weekdays. We walked straight onto Indy etc. I think the longest wait we had was 10 minutes at Splash in the late morning. It was a fantastic time to go. The only think was that we didn't get to see the Fireworks on that trip as they were only showing on the weekend.
