January 24-28, 2010 -- Wonder

Hi All,

We are on this sailing as well. Can we participate in the FE? I don't know what to do but I am willing. We are 2 adults, 2 children. Cat 12 to Cat 11, was also hoping for 10 or 9 but I am fine, it looks like a good location, Deck 6.
Just let me know what to do and I will get on board! Thanks

Welcome aboard.

Glad to have you sailing with us.

ganandem is handling all the fish extender information. Send her an email with your information and she will add you to the list. If you look back a page or two you will see what information you need to send.

Do you know the basics about FE's or do you need an explanation?

:welcome:

Have you cruised on Disney before? I'm not sure so I will try to explain in as much detail as I can.

I have never participated in a Fish Extender exchange and this will be my 12th Disney Cruise. I decided it was time to try something new:thumbsup2

okay here is a link to what a basic fish extender looks like. You can make one for yourself like it or you can use your imagination and come up with a different design.

I've heard that some people go as simple as hanging a paper or plastic bag from their fish.

Outside your cabin door on the wall is a fancy fish. The crew will use it to leave messages for your cabin if necessary. The fish extender is attached to it, usually with ribbon or string, or whatever strikes your fancy.

At same point during the cruise the other people who are participating will put little treats and trinkets into your fish extender, and you will do the same for them.

What you put into the fish extenders is totally up to you. I think the trick is to find neat little, inexpensive things. There is a thread somewhere where people have posted the types of things they have received.

It is just a cool way to make the cruise have a bit more magic to it.:woohoo:

If you have any more questions just ask. I hope I have helped to explain it a bit, being a novice myself ;)

Thank You,

I will start on my FE and start looking for little gifts to fill everyone elses.

Thank you it looks like fun. We have sailed with Disney 3 years ago and other cruiselines many times and this is a first. We are serious Disney fans but only the cruise one time before. We got the kids sail free so it was much more affordable.

I really like this idea. My girls will get a kick out of it.

Does everyone still get together at a certain time to meet or is this instead of a meet and greet?

This will be our 12th Disney Cruise. We have sailed once on Carnival and 4 times on Royal Caribbean. Disney is obviously our favourite. So I guess you could call us serious Disney fans too. At least I am, my husband not quite so fanatical as I am.

We have no meet and greet planned as of yet but I'm thinking that there will be one. It's nice to have a brief meeting at the beginning of the cruise just to say hello and make contact with everyone. That way when you see them around the ship, you can stop for a brief chat.

Here is a picture that I found of one of our previous cruises. It shows the fish outside the cabin door.

Thank you for the picture.

It would be nice to meet before, then you feel like you have so many friends on the cruise. We love disney just have not been able to afford the price for the cruise until kids sail free. We are very excited.

We have sailed with NCl 2 times, Royal Caribbean 4 times and Disney 1 time. Disney by far was the best cruise EVER. That includes our NCL to Alaska, great views, just not Disney service.

We are surprising our girls with the Back-to-Back on 01/28/10. My husband wants to get off the ship and tell them that we had so much fun lets "Do it again"!

I hope it works but its so hard for me to keep such a big secret.

Thanks for including us and can't wait to meet everyone.

Tracy

A back to back, how exciting. I've always thought I'd like to do one of those too.

I don't know how the surprise will go, especially because they will ask why you don't put your luggage out the night before the end of the cruise :confused3

You might have to give them the surprise that night. Even then, that would be very exciting for them.

I agree about the different cruiselines.

I love any and all time that I've gotten to spend on cruise ships but when we cruise other than Disney we spend half the time saying to each other........ well this is nice but it sure isn't Disney ;)

I like that idea about telling them the night before. However since we are booking Cat 12 there is no guarantee we will be in the same cabin. I think if we are in different cabins we have to pack up and they put our luggage in a special place and deliver to our new cabin in the afternoon.

We got Cat 11 which is fine, it looks like our ship is filled for parties of 4. I am hoping for a porthole on the next one, it appears to be less full. Either way we are fine, Disney was the only cruise that we all stayed really busy the entire time. We only slept and ordered Mickey ice cream bars in our room from what I remember.

We are from Maryland and it is 22 degrees today and I am really looking forward to the better weather!

That would work if you didn't have the same cabin and had to pack up your bags like everyone else.

It would be perfect actually:dance3:

I am from Ontario Canada and it is also 22 degrees here today.:cold:

We are about an hour east of Detroit, Michigan.

I got into the shower this morning and it looked okay outside.

By the time I got out of the bathroom, it was snowing like crazy :scared1:

It seems to have stopped again though, thank goodness.

Wow,

My girls would love for it to be snowing now. They figure if it is going to be this cold outside why not snow:rotfl:

I drove them to school this morning because they were to cold to walk, its only a few blocks.

How long does the flight take to get to florida? We are about 2 hours by air. Are you visiting the parks before or after? I love to hear what other folks are doing before or after their cruise.

I got southwest $54.00 each way non-stop from Baltimore. We are flying in the night before and staying at AKL for one night. I thought it would be nice to see the animals and have a nice breakfast before we head off to the ship. I booked Chef Mickeys for breakfast, we all love their breakfast!

It has snowed but it doesn't stick for very long, which is something I personally as grateful for :lmao:

We fly out of Detroit which is a border crossing and a drive of 1 1/2 hours from our house which is not bad at all.

Those are good prices that you got. We can usually get those kinds of prices from Detroit too, from Spirit or Air Tran.

This time we are not flying though, we are driving.

It takes about 18 hours of straight driving time (not including stops) to get to Disney, if there are no traffic hold ups etc.

But this time we will be driving to Jacksonville, Fl. We are meeting up with some friends (one is also a DISer but does not post on this thread). We will stay the night at their house and come down to ship together.

Afterwards we will drive back to their house and stay there until Sunday.

My husband flys remote control model airplanes in competitions and there is a judging seminar in Jacksonville that he wants to go to. It starts on the Friday after we get off the ship and goes to Sunday. After that we will be driving back home.

I don't really mind the drive to Florida. We always stop for one night usually just north of Atlanta, Georgia.

We will be at AKL the night before as well (well 2 nights before and at AKV-Kidani) but we decided to do our breakfast on cruise morning at Boma. I loved Boma breakfast and it's so convenient since we're staying there. Then off to the port! :goodvibes

(we are also coming from BWI but on Friday morning not Saturday on those $59 flights, sadly had to pay $89 for the return trip - must have been a few minutes too slow on the DING!).
