JANUARY 2017!! **CHECK IN!!

Let's get this party started! We're nearly there!!
What will your first day look like? Your first ride?

Drive in from Phoenix on Thursday Jan 5 with wife, 18 y/o daughter and her boyfriend (who has never been to Disney park or other real theme park). Wife and I have Signature AP, but the kids will have 2-day, 1 park per day.

Staying 4 miles west down Katella.

Fri Jan 6, DCA
* Opens at 9am.
* Early entry day for hotel guests, so it won't be empty when we get in the park.
* ToT will be closed. :(
* Too cold for GRR.
* Local kids are out of school, and soCal APs are NOT blocked, so I expect huge crowds at Disneyland, which is a big part of the reason we are doing DCA on Friday.

Plan:
Up by 6am, breakfast in hotel by 7, in line for Mickey and Friends parking garage before it opens at 8.
1) Grab FPs to RSR. (hopefully early), grab FPs to WoC.
2) Screamin'
3) Fun Wheel, swinging car
4) Sky School
5) As soon as we can, get FPs to Soarin'
6) cars land: Mater's Lougi's, use RSR FP
From there it will depend on the Saorin' FP time.

One trick we like to do is Screamin' FPs are frequently 45-60 min out, and Toy Story stanby is about the same. So, grab FP to Screamin' ride TSMM, then use Screamin' FP.

Later in the day, when lines are all stupid long: challenge trail, little mermaid, tough to be a bug, carousel, swings, Monsters Inc.

May try to get back to hotel for afternoon nap, especially if the park is busy. We will finish the night with the first WoC at 9. Hopefully back in hotel and asleep near 11pm.

Sat Jan 7, DL
* Magic Morning so will not be empty at opening.
* Too cold for Splash
Up by 5am. Breakfast in hotel room. At Mickey and Friends when it opens at 6:30am.
8am rope drop, grab FPs to Space Mt,
After that, it depends on the wait time for space, star tours.

Maybe Space, Matterhorn, Star Tours, indy.
If tomorrowland has long lines at opening because of MM and EMH, then Matterhorn, Indy, Mansion, get FP for Star Tours on way to use Space FP.

We have to do the holiday parade and Paint the Night and holiday fireworks, and probably try to stay until midnight. So I will push for the afternoon nap this day.

I got my Christmas present from DH early: a ticket to the MSELP premier! I'm so excited. One of my DD and DSIL has decided to join me. --I was kind of looking forward to a solo trip, but oh well. They're good kids, and fun.

We're staying at the DLH, Jan 18-21

Well sounds like us JAN Disers have gotten lucky!! :rainbow:
PIRATES OF THE CAREBEAN doesn't close until FEB 3rd.

That is such awesome news ! We have been waiting on pins and needles for that announcement to come.
Somehow , I knew the POTC refurb WAS coming, just didnt know the dates yet . At least we will dodge that bullet ! Sorry for the Feb-March DL guests though.

Its all coming together now. Since we arrive on the 21'st and our first park days is the 22nd , we will be able to see IASW for 1 day . HM is back , and now POTC will not be going down while we are there !
Its a bummer for us that ALL of the GC pools will be closed, and JC is still down, but all in all , we are happy ! :cool1:

Thanks for the info !

My Mom and I just booked a last minute trip yesterday. We will fly in on the evening of January 21st, and will be leaving the morning of the 25th. We are staying at the Castle inn and suites for the first time. We usually stay at HOJO. This will also be our first trip with no kids, and first time flying into LAX. I am super excited. We made reservations for lunch at Blue Bayou. I have had dessert there several times, but not an actual meal. Looking forward to lots of firsts!

Has anyone heard why Jungle Cruise is taking so long to have the overlay removed? I thought in 2015 it only took a couple days and they did a refurb in 2016. I really am hoping it will open while we are there. It's hubby's favorite ride.

From what I have noticed, it always seems like its the attraction that's down for the holiday overlay the longest.

We will miss it during our trip :(

Just in case any January DL Disers trips stretch into February ..............
Looks Like the Matterhorn will be closing for refurb starting Feb 6th .
It will be closed until APRIL 27th ! :worried:

Yes I think we are fortunate that POTC, Matterhorn, MFW all go down in Feb this year, instead of JAN. I'm happy splash mountain & Matterhorn, and Peter Pan's flight are all good to go this trip.:thanks:

2 years ago they were all down when we visited. No biggie for locals-but bummer when coming from out of state and find out unexpected refurbs after booking trip.

My son and I will be there Dec 31 thru Jan 3 (celebrating our birthdays). Staying at the Hilton Anaheim. First time not staying on site or at the BWPPI or Tropicana. Hopefully it won't feel too far away.

considering a last minute trip to be in the parks on Jan 3, 4, 5 (Tues, Wed, Thurs). What do you all think about the crowd levels for those days? Crazy, right?

I have a question about the one-park-per-day tickets. Is it possible to use one "day" at DL and one "day" at CA on the same actual day? I think I looked into this last time we went to DL and the answer was NO but I can't remember. I had decided that we weren't going to get hoppers this trip because in all the times we've gone, we hardly ever actually switch parks on the same day. The difference in price is $200 for our family and that's hard to justify if we only "might" use it. But, we can get 5 day tickets for about $65 more, which is easier to justify!

What would you do? Hoppers or no?

That's a tough one. We don't use ours a lot either, but with limited nighttime entertainment, I like to have flexibility, should one thing get cancelled due to wind/weather. Also we don't always spend full day in DCA, so that's nice too. We got such great ticket rates on LMT I decided to splurge & go for hoppers ourselves. Plus we don't get to go often, so worth the flexibility for rare trip from WA.

Thanks!! Our DL park days are Feb 2 and 3rd, so I'll make sure we ride it Feb 2.

Ohh, I'm glad you mentioned it's opening again on Feb 3rd. That's our last day. Hopefully it opens on schedule and we can ride it.

Speaking of schedules - where do I find a refurb schedule for Disneyland anyways?
