JANUARY 2013, Who Else is Going?

Badgergirl we are from WI too. Will be there Jan 26th - 30th.

Cool! We live in Madison. I'm so excited to be getting a break from the cold winter weather...especially after the fun of Christmas and New Year's is done.

The NAMM Show (http://www.namm.org/thenammshow/2013) can make hotel rooms very pricey, but the one year we vacationed during it, we didn't see a huge bump in park crowds.

Is this your first trip to Disneyland, Badgergirl?

Thanks for the details...and the information regarding the crowds.

Yes--this is our first trip to Disneyland! My husband and I have been to WDW several times together (got engaged there, honeymooned there, 1st anniversary trip there this past Sept.) I have always wanted to visit DL and DCA...but I have to admit, Cars Land is a major draw for me. I went from wanting to go to HAVING to go.

BIG NEWS from another thread on this board:

The DLR portal has been updated: http://media.disneywebcontent.com/S...c/pdf/D-MailPDF/IntlDmailDLRefurbishments.pdf They have October 2012 listed, but I am pretty sure they meant 2013.

Jan. 7 Feb. 14, 2013: Fantasmic! will be closed for refurbishment.
Jan. 7 March 28, 2013: Mark Twain Riverboat will be closed for refurbishment.
Jan. 7 March 28, 2013: Pioneer Mercantile will be closed for refurbishment.
Jan. 7 Oct. 30, 2012: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closed for refurbishment.

Wow--I am bummed about Fantastic. We have never seen it in DHS and I've always heard that the version at Disneyland is the best.

Oh well, we knew that we'd be trading some lower crowds for refurbishment season when we picked to go in Jan.

Thanks for letting me know about the closures.

We will be staying at VGC Jan 28 - Feb 2. Looking forward to seeing Carsland.

We will be arriving Jan. 23 and leaving on the 31st!!!

I have been to Disneyland 2 times in the last 3 years with a ladies trip, but my husband and two kids have never been.

My daughter is so excited to see the other castle!!! We have been to Disneyworld 10+ times since we have had kids.

Daisy

Oh! We are staying in a villa at the Grand with our DVC points.

Wow...the growing refurb list is a bummer. I keep waffling on our dates. Think I'll stick to that busier first week.

Awesome trip. What are you doing for tickets for a stay that long? Season passes? 5 day passes + 2 day passes?

Ok I still haven't booked. I'm such a procrastinator. We are still going Jan 26-30 and I'm hitting Costco today to get their special on 4-day park hoppers for $259! Once I have those I'll price check the PPH again and book. I swear!

We only plan to hit the parks for 5 days. I am waiting to see about the YES classes. My 9 year old daughter would love to do at least one of these. If it works out the tickets thru that would be cheaper.

If not, I am eyeing that Costco deal.

The kids really want to go see "Hollywood!" So I plan on doing some sightseeing for at least one day. I am still debating on Universal or Legoland?

I am all in for suggestions! I have never planned a trip to Disneyland, so I treading water on this one.

Well that stinks, we have never been able to see Fantasmic or BTMRR it was closed at WDW last year when we went and now it's closed her.

I'm going Jan 28-31st! We are so excited. My husband and I have been to WDW twice, once for our honeymoon and again last year, but this is our first time at DLR!!! I am SO disappointed that BTMRR will be closed when we're there, it was closed last year while we were at WDW! oh well.

Adding to the DL January conga line. My daughter and I will be there from the 14 th to the 17th. DD doesn't begin her college spring semester until the week of the 21st. It is a surprise Christmas gift. And we are also from Northern California. Not sure where we are staying. I am waiting to see if there will be some kind of an AP discount that week.

Cheers!

We've gone to Disney over the MLK holiday week for the last four years, but I think we'll skip it this year. Too many "critical" ride closures, unforch. Even my 8 years agree to give it a miss this January.

Ok, so clearly I have been neglecting this thread and the list, but no fear, my work is now complete. LOL I've added everyone, I think, with what info I have. I myself, am having to cancel my January trip due to several factors. We are looking at September 2012 now, and seriously hoping Cars Land will calm down a little by then. I will still monitor this thread and update the list, since I feel responsible for it.

I might be going. It's my b'day on the 15th so I might go that weekend
Please let us know when you set it up so I can add you to the list.

We start on 31 Dec, but will be there through the 5th at Paradise Pier. Everything I have read so far says it gets pretty dead for a few days after the 1st, so hoping for good crowds.
Ummm, this isn't how I hear it. Last year and this year, most California schools are out the week after New Year's. I expect that this will have a big influence on crowds, as was reported last year.

I'm trying to decide which long weekend to go next year...
Let me know when you decide, I'll add you to the list.

BadgerGirl84 and AmandaRoseGirl, where are you staying, if you don't mind my asking?

Hi Larina! We aren't too sure where we're staying yet! We're going to pick a good neighbour hotel i think, as on site looks pretty expensive. I've been looking at the Hyatt Regency OC, anyone stayed there?

My dates, again, are 1/23-1/28.

We are doing a split stay between a Hilton Property and a Marriott Property.

We will be at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Anaheim - Orange County on 1/23 and 1/24.

We will be at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Anaheim Buena Park/Disney North on 1/25-28.

I had 70K Hilton Points and 30K Marriott Points (blew all my Marriott points on a trip to Europe in May).

Hilton points don't get you very far in the Anaheim area! The cheapest I could do in the area was 30k per night at the DoubleTree. On a whim, I did a Marriott search and they had a number of 15k/night and 10k/night properties within a 10mi radius of Disneyland. I booked the Fairfield for 10k/night.

Tripadvisor reviews for the DoubleTree are very good, but I don't like the fact we will have to pay $13/night parking.

Tripadvisor reviews for the Fairfield were so-so...but it's so few points per night that I'm willing to give it a shot.

I figure a vacation with FREE hotel stay is worth the hassle of switching hotels.

We will be there Jan 17-20 at Desert Inn, then a few days in vegas, then back to disney Jan 23-26 at hojos

First time to Disneyland! Excited for carsland!:yay:
