January 2012 Car Rentals

I have a fullsize booked with Hertz through Autoslash for $303 for 8 days (1/6 - 1/14). We are flying into Lakeland, so we don't have much choice. Now our flight has been changed and we may need to stay for 2 more days. I put in the new dates and the best rate is $550 for 10 days. Yikes! It's got to get better than that!

Is it OK to keep both right now until we decide for sure what we are going to do? If I can arrange a different flight on 1/14 I will only need the 8 days. I sure hope I can get better rates. I'm not happy with the $303 and certainly not happy with $550.

My 7 day January rental with budget is down as well. I'm at about $215 total with tax for an intermediate. Reservation total is $246.25 but does not reflect the $30 coupon. I was at $283 - $30 coupon for $253 before today. So about a $40 drop.

My rate is down with Dollar today. Jan 4th-12 (1 wk and 2 days), full size, $230.36 with fees. This is with the city special.

Yeah! Just booked with Alamo for Jan 6-10 and got 5 days for $96! Used Costco coupon, but the base rates were way down from what they had been--$100/wk.

January rates are really coming down!
I just booked w/ Alamo using the Visa discount, 1/3-1/9, mid size $106. That's a bit higher than I paid last year for a full size vehicle but still quite reasonable.

My rate is down again today. Same as above, now at $192 with all fees. Hooray!

Yeah they're firing off a decent deal now, CyberMonday email pointed me at Costco.com 25% off + $50 through Alamo. 11 day rental of economy for $138 w/taxes. Jan 4 through Jan 15

Granted need to be a Costco member, go to the costco site, click cyber monday banner, then find the Alamo one and click it, customize your trip,

Might need to fiddle with your days, when I booked for 11 (noon to noon) it actually was more expensive, and the Compact car wasn't discounted for some reason, when I booked 10am to 4pm then everything was cheaper. Think when you book an even number of days it screws up, but add an hour to your day and bam- prices drop

Some prices for those interested for the dates I was going, 11days 6 hours, taxes and fees included
$138 - Economy
$150 - Compact
$170 - Intermediate
$190 - Fullsize
$421 - Standard SUV

Not sure if the larger cars are really a deal though, since I never have a need to rent something that large.

What code and car rental company did you use?
Thanks!

If it's the Alamo Visa code it's ID 7015504 and Coupon Code AD2338FDF.

Finding better rates myself. Now to figure out if we can fit 4-5 people in a compact or midsize, or if we stick with a standard or larger.

Thanks... I was able to get $105 for 1/5 - 1/10 for an economy with a free additional driver.

Hopefully it will drop below $100 as we get closer. But thanks for the codes. I have a VISA so no problem.

that is the visa code I used as well as my alamo insider membership.

I will keep looking but 88$ for an 8-day economy car is not a bad deal.

Goodluck!

Just playing with the Costco site, it's less expensive for me to rent the car for an extra day. A 4 day rental was $195, a 5 day was $128.

I'm booking for 5 days and I'll return one day early.

My full size rental with Alamo came down again. I am now at $165 for 7 nights, 8 days.:cool1:

I just booked a Midsize with Alamo using the costco 25% and $30 off coupon and total for 1/4-1/11 is $76 with taxes! Great deal!

Be careful and read the terms, many companies have a clause allowing them to 'recalculate' your rate if you return it early, and you could owe more. :scared1:
