January 2010 at DL resort! Official thread....who's all going?

We are going!!! My DH, DD (3) and DMIL will be in the park Jan 9-12th.

Yeah, can't wait!!!! :woohoo:

We overlap a little bit, I'm the 10-15. Maybe I'll see your LGMH!:)

I've been waiting for park hours to come out, checked today and they have the 10th up, but not any of my other days. They are killing me here with this last minute planning:confused:, I'm used to WDW where you can plan everything months in advance.

I'm going for the first time next January!! So excited!! :goodvibes

But I need help! i'll be there for two days and these are the dates I can go:
-Jan 14-15 (thursday and friday)
-Jan 15-16 (friday and saturday)
-Jan 16-17 (saturday and sunday)

Considering Monday 18th is a holiday.

What's the best date?
I have never been to Disneyland and I'd like to experience the shows and stuff...But I read that some of them are only shown on weekends. Is friday part of the weekend?

I'm thinking of going Thursday and Friday, that way i'll get a "lower crowds but no entertainment" day and a "higher crowds and entertainment" day. What do you think??

Woo hoo, my number's been called up! :goodvibes

My sister & I are going to be at Hojo from the 17th and leaving on the 22nd. But we'll only be at DL the 18th & 19th. I'm so stoked, can't wait.
Only 47 days, 6 hours, 15 mins, and 5 secs till departure. Give or take.

TinkandPooh- I was meaning to ask the question about APs that you seem to have answered above. If I only bought an AP for myself does that mean I could reserve an AP rate at the GCH for me and my family. Currently I have it reserved for $265 a night, but I'm assuming that the rate would be lower if I book as an AP holder. Also can I use the AP to get discounts for food and character meals if I am the only one that had a AP? I think with the discounts on hotel rooms and food it would be worthwhile for me to get a AP. We were planning on buying the promo 5 day park hopper tickets anyway. It just might be a bit too much if I have to buy APs for all 4 of us.

Mom of a princess, to answer your questions yes your AP will work for discounts on food for your entire food purchase even if it is your entire family, however the only AP that gets a merchandise discounts is the premium AP.
When ever we dine anywhere in the park or at any of the resort hotels it only takes one of us to take out our AP at the end for the discount and even though the dining discounts are 10% it still amounts to big savings and money you can use elsewhere if you are staying for an extened period of time. So just buy one AP and you will get your hotel AP rate and your dining rates.
If you have any other questions concerning your stay just let me know I will be more than happy to answer. I have plenty of experience with staying at the GCH so if you have never stayed there I may be able to give you some good info on the hotel and room thoughts....just let me know:goodvibes

Ok I just had to add....We are getting closer DL Januarians!!!!! Who's excited???:banana::banana:
I can't wait....Christmas, then New Years, then DL...........whoa...who could ask for a better next 2 months!!!!!:cloud9:

Thanks for the great info TinkandPooh! You rock.:worship: I'm so excited. January is only a month away now.

No problem that is what we are all here for to share our love of Disney:cloud9:

Anyhow if you don't mind me asking, I know you are staying at the GCH but what view did you request and have you stayed at the hotel before?

I can't wait for January either. First it is Christmas, then New Year (which is also DH and I's Anniversary) and then DL and DD's sweet 16, and then we come home and DH is taking me to pick up the puppy that he got me for our Anniversary:cloud9:

We just changed our reservations. Now we will be at GCH, Jan 5-10. We've always stayed at DLH, but DH really wanted to stay at GC. Hoping for good weather :)!!! But coming from Wyoming in January, anything should be good!!!

I just booked a standard room for the 4 of us. The bunk bed rooms look cute but my kids are a bit too small for them. I didn't request any view and just assume we won't really get a view with a standard. But if you have any suggestions or tips please share. We've never stayed at GCH.

Would you able to look up what the standrad AP room rate would be for the GCH for January 16-22? ( Our current booking is for 4 days but if I can get a great rate with the AP then we'll stay for 5 days)

And by the way I should introduce myself. I'm Barbara.

Very nice to meet you Barbara, I am Ganessa.

I just got the AP rates for you for the dates 1/16/2009 through 01/22/09 and they are $213.00 per night. And by the way you do not need to have your AP to book the AP rate so you could book right now and then get your AP when you get there or print it up online before you go and have it with you at check in.

As far as suggestions go first let me start by asking you are you celebrating anything special while you are at DL? If so then make sure you call the reservation line and tell them to put it in the notes because they will do something to make your celebration very special, wether it be a birthday, Anniversary etc. We have found that many times during the month of January that we often get upgrade free to what they would consider more costly rooms like theme park view or down town disney district view (our personal favorite view is the down town disney district view).
Now as far as a standard room I would also suggest that you contact the reservation line that you made your ressies with and request the courtyard view. There are 2 types of standard views at the GCH one is anaheim city view which is basically a boring view of the parking lots or streets around the hotel which in my opinion are not nice to look at, and theother standard rooms have views of the courtyard which is very beautiful and green and peaceful. If you are going to do a standard view the courtyard view is by far superior as far as view goes.
As far as other tips and suggestions a few that I can think of off hand since you are going with little ones (sorry I can't remeber their ages and can't see your siggy right now while I am responding, but seem to think you have younger kids) the things I can think of if they still do it is they had a wonderful scavenger hunt that they do at the hotel and for the life of me I can't remember what it is called but when my girls were younger they loved it and when they completed the hunt they all got a free mickey cookie. If they still do the scavenger hunt it will be listed on the nightly notices that you will get on your bed informing you of what is going on the next day at the parks and around your resort hotel. Other things I can think of is for sure eat at Whitewater Cafe there at the GCH it is great! Also eat a meal at Storyteller's, They do a buffet for Breakfast and dinner and menu at lunch, however if you would like they will let you order from the menu for breakfast and dinner as well.
You will also enjoy your private hotel entrance into California Adventure park there at the GCH.
I can tell you that there is a possibility that you may have to do some walking to your room if you get put in a certain section of the hotel. There are several really long hallways and I mean long so be prepaired for that so you are not surprised and if you get a room like that and you do not like the long walk don't hesitate to let guest services know and kindly request that they give you something a bit closer if at all possible.
You will really love the hotel, it is beautiful.
Oh yes and they have a story time for the kids at the fireplace in the lobby and you will often hear a pianist playing disneysongs in the lobby as well which is very nice to just sit and listen too when you just want to take a few minutes to relax and unwind.
Another thing I can think of is that the GCH doe have Pinochio's workshop which is like a day/fun center for kids should the parents want to leave the kids for a bit and say have a dinner alone of whatever.
That is all I can think of right off the top of my head but as I think of more I will post it here for you.
Once again I will tell you that you are going to love your stay at the GCH.....it is aour very favorite and we stay there almost every stay with a few stays at the DLH inbetween stays just for a change of pace and some different things to look at.

We will be staying at the DLH this trip as we have stayed at the GCH for our last 6 stays so it was time for a chnge up, however wel will walk over and eat at Whitewater Cafe and Storyteller's during our stay.

Thanks Ganessa! Great tips. I'll call the reservation line tomorrow and get the AP rates and a courtyard view. My birthday is Jan 5th so I guess we are celebrating my birthday eventhough it"ll be 2 weeks later!

Barbara

No problem Barbara,
And yes celebrate your birthday even thought it is a couple weeks later!
I can't wait to hear about your trip.:goodvibes

I think we all should come back to this thread after our trips and share little mini trip reports about our visits and some pictures if we can as well.

I made my PS arrangements last night!
Minnie and Friends on the 21st,
Cafe Orleans on the 22nd (for just me and DH... we get to play that night w/o our two darling darings!)
Ariel's Grotto on the 23rd.
I am so excited!
Three Bananas for three PSs...:banana::banana::banana:

Now if only they would release the hours and entertainment....

waiting waiting waiting...

I am so excited. :dance3:
I am obsessively checking the Disney site to see if they have posted their hours yet (or any other information)... i try not to check more than five or six times a day. :lmao:
But I have noticed they have posted hours through the 13th...
so maybe in a week they will be posting hours for my arrival date?
maybe?
pretty-please?
;)

Just saw that Disney has finally put up the schedule for our arrival date, Jan. 16! I've been checking the schedule continously like everyone else.

I changed our reservations to the AP rate and added an extra day, so now we are staying at the GCH for 5 nights!!! The rate is $245 inclusive of taxes. And I've requested a courtyard room (thanks Ganessa!). DH and I talked about getting an AP and it makes sense for us cause I'm sure we'll want to do another trip in the fall to DL. My MIL is a snow bird and has a house in Phoenix where she spends the fall/winters. When we go visit her we tend to include a trip to disneyland.

I agree that we all have to share pictures and stories from our January trips when we get back!

We decided to get APs, also!
We are going to return sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas next year. Seeing the holiday thread really pushed me over the edge!
Still no schedule for us yet.

Exactly why I want to go around your Thanksgiving too! I'd love to see the holiday decorations

Just giving us a bump!

Is anyone else worried about El Nino weather for their trip?
Cold I can handle (so i think... I am bundled up to handle our cold winter nights of mid-60s) but I am worried about four days of rain with two little ones.
