January 2009 cheer/dance groups

Hello everyone!
We are interested in going in Jan, but read on Mousesavers.com that 1/16/09-1/18-09 and 1/30/09-2/1/09 there are cheerleading championship and national dance championships going on. I wanted to know if anyone has encountered these in Jan before and what it's like. We went in Dec,1995 and encountered POP warner week (we stayed @ ASMovies) it was not fun-too loud. Also, does Superbowl Sunday influence the park attendance/crowds at the parks or resorts? Thank you soooo much!!!

We weren't there in January but were there during some competition in early February the past two years. Both years we stayed at Pop and they were never a problem at this resort at all. We did encounter them at MGM oops I can't remember the new name now but it was not a problem at all. I found a schedule somewhere on the internet and avoided the park where the competition was on a certain day. No problems at all. I have heard they are at All Stars but Pop was okay for us. Hope this helps.

They stay at the All Stars usually, but not at Pop. I've been advised to avoid the hotel that they staying at, but that the parks should be just fine. The large number of kids running around the hotel (without alot of supervision) and practicing their routines has disrupted other vacationers in the past. There are many cheer & dance nationals at WDW, including one in March and one in May. If you want to stay at the All-Stars it might be worth finding out when each of these events happens and plan around them. Good luck!
