Okay, my family and I have been going nuts trying to plan a 2008 trip to the World. We have jumped from month-to-month trying to find the perfect combination of good weather and low crowds. Even though people voted early December in previous poles that I created, we just can't wait that long :rolleyes1 So it looks like January is the month for us since my wife wants cool weather.

We've decided on the dates ranging from Fri. Jan. 18 - Sun. Jan. 27 being that these dates don't include the Marathon, Cheerleading competitions, etc. The only thing is, MLK Holiday falls on Mon. Jan. 21. I've heard from numerous planning guides that MLK Weekend doesn't have any impact on Crowd levels.

So my questions are:

1) For those who have been at the World over MLK Weekend, is it noticeabley busier??? What are the parks like??? Any parks to avoid during this weekend?

2) In your opinion, did I pick a good time to go for cool weather and Low Crowds?

3) Is there another week in January/Early February that you think would be even better?

Thanks in Advance.

I went this past January during MLK week. That weekend is busy because school is out and it gives you a long weekend. I went to MK on MLK day and it was crowded. Then went back two days later on a day that had no EMH and I walked right on most of the kiddie rides with no wait. Rides like Space Mountail 10 min wait. It was odd how a ride would have a 20 min wait and then dropped to 10. It depended on the flow of the crowd. If you want low crowds then go to the parks after the holiday. Weather was upper 70's most of the week. Loved it.
I'm going again the same week next January arriving on MLK day.
But you shouldn't go after MLK holiday. We want it to stay uncrowded.
How about summer, hot, extremely crowded, you'll love it.

We went week of MLK in 2005. We went to MK on Mon, MLK holiday, and found it pretty crowded. We hopped on the monorail and went to Epcot and had a great day. Then we went to MK on Tuesday and it was very nice there. The rest of the week was not a problem at all. I would go at that time again, and avoid MK on that monday.

:lmao: . July 4th week is the week I've been going to the World since I was 15 years old (27 now). I don't care to see crowds and heat like that ever again  . My father owns a timeshare and we always stayed there. I'm married now with my own family, and we're big on low crowds, cool weather, and most important of all, DISNEY RESORTS :woohoo: . This will be mine and my family's first time staying on Disney property. I can't wait :hyper: !

We went a few years back the week before July 4th. I don't know what was worse the crowds or the heat. You will love January after the MLK holiday. One day it got up to 80 and my kids went swimming. And evenings that it was cool they went in the hot tub. Mine girls are 6 and 3.
You did not mention the resort you were staying at. I reccomend the moderates. Mine want a themed pool and hot tub. And my kids are not big on fast food junk so we like a good food court.
I've also stayed at OKW in a villa. Very nice but no food court to grab something quick. I was preparing meals on my Disney vacation. Never again.
If I could afford it this trip I would love to stay at a monorail resort. But mod is good to.
Enjoy your stay. I'll be at Disney Jan 21-26.

My wife and daughter(9) want the Contemporary. They love the new rooms and the monorail. My son(13) originally wanted the Contemporary too until I decided to cut our 9 day vacation down to 6 or 7 days in order to save a little money; closing on our house Monday! So he said he'll take the AKL or even a moderate if it means we can still stay 9 days  . Most likely will be at the Contemporary, but it's not official yet.

I am jealous.
My girls want CR or GF with a castle view. But I can't seem to bring myself to pay 395 vs 145 for POR. I know I would love a monorail resort or BWI concierge. Perhaps a great discount will come out and I could upgrade. But for now I will budget for POR.

The last time we visited was over the MLK holiday. We noticed that Saturday, Sunday and Monday were tolerably crowded. On Tuesday, the crowds dropped and the rest of the week, the crowds were considerably smaller.
