January 1-6...what to expect?

My family is trying to decide on what time of year to take our next trip. Because of conflicting college and junior high school holiday calendars and my son’s sports, it is getting harder every year. It seems like the only options we will have this year is during peak times. We have been on Veterans Day in Nov and during Memorial Day week. Both trips were nice and crowds didn’t feel bad.
It seems like are only options for our next trip would be Jan 1-6 or Thanksgiving week. We have been leaning more towards January.
I know it will be crowded. Can anyone tell me what to expect? Thanks in advance

I love that week. We are teachers with hs- college- grad kids. We’ve been New Years week four times. Yes, it’s crowded, but it’s not ghastly hot and humid, so you can be in the parks longer more comfortably.
Like any time of year, have a plan and be flexible.

Thanksgiving week will be crazy busy, but that first week in January is still very much holiday time for a lot of people. Unless you're interested in some specific Christmas festivities, I think January would be my choice for dealing with crowds. The weather is another issue though--November weather will probably be sublime while January could be downright cold. No guarantees though. Might be easier/cheaper to fly in January???

Thanks for the input! I guess my worry is that it will be so crowded that I may have some regrets about choosing those days. Our hands are kind of tied though. I’m pretty sure my son’s basketball season will knock out any chance of Thanksgiving week anyway. I’m sure we will have a great time no matter what. We haven’t been to the theme parks since May 2016 and we really don’t want to have to wait until summer 2019!
We live in Southeast Alabama so flying isnt a factor for us. We also have the same crazy weather. Some years we are in shorts and tank tops on Christmas, other years it's freezing. If we do go, our park dates would be Jan 2-5. We only have time for 4 park days. Fingers crossed that more people leave after New Years Day than I expect!
