I just got back from the world 9/5. My trip was 8/29-9/5. The week before labor day and the day after were great and empty, but the weekend was pretty bad. I wanted to plan my next trip for the beginning of January. I was thinking the 3rd or 4th (hopefully all the NYE crowds are gone) until the 10th or 11th, so i would be gone before MLK weeked. I just found out this was the marathon weekend. Does anyone know how bad this will effect the crowds? thank you :)

We were there Jan. 2nd last year for 5 nights. True, the marathon starts that week-end but honestly I found the crowds to be very minimal. We walked on many rides with less than a 5 min. wait. I think the longest we waited was for Dumbo and that was 10 min. It's a great time of year to go. The evenings are quite cool there. Hope this helps. Tink

If you wait until the 4th to get there you should be fine. The week of the 1st will definitely be crowded, due to New Years Day being on a Monday and so many schools having Xmas break til the following week. But by the 4th the real heavy crowds will have died down and by the weekend, even with the marathon, it should be great.

O.K. not to hijack this thread, but how bad is the crowd levels say checking in Dec. 21- Dec. 26th? Anyone been there during that time frame? Is it going to really be that busy?

The week before Christmas is very doable especially if you plan out your meals and parks in advance. Christmas Eve through the New Year gets wild. Parks closing due to reaching capacity, etc.
