Since we've registered for the half and the full marathon, and since we plan on going sans kids...

we're going to go with the DDP and take advantage of some fine dining - I think...

My question concerns food choices... dh likes to have heavier carbs and easy on protiens (ie steak!) I'm such a beef person...

I'm curious where people eat the night before a WDW race? I'm not crazy about the menu at Tony's in MK, but they have speghetti... Mama Melrose at MGM has a penne pasta that sounds good... beyond that I was at a loss!

(my calculator has it at 205 days I think.. so plenty of time to plan!!)

I always love this question!! :teeth:

Some other options to consider:

-- Il Mulino New York Trattoria at the Swan (high-end Italian food... gets pretty good reviews)

-- The new location at Epcot in Italy should be open.... but I don't think we'll see a menu for a while....

-- Nine Dragons at Epcot. Chinese food means a nice mix of carbs and protein, so that's an option as well.

-- Rainforest Cafe has good pasta and an excellent stirfry on their menu.

-- In a pinch, any hotel food court will have simple pasta meals as well as meats/proteins.

Hope that helps!

I'm not sure if this helps but at OKW they had a special menu the night before the races. Sadly I did not stop by to check them out :( But I thought it was kewl they offered something! :) I've never heard if anyone else tried a Race Special Menu at one of the hotels, would love to know how it went if someone did.

Thanks for the reminder on the ADRs! Guess I'd best get my tush in gear and get the gang planning on what, where and when! LOL

The only ressie we are currently planning on making is Jan 12th after the 1/2 at Chef Mickey's. I am not sure if we are planning anything else quite yet.

Dw & I are doing the Goofy again (my 3rd) and I will do a high protien(Chicken Sand for lunch) and carbs for diner(pasta). We will do this Sat night also before the marathon.

Don't forget that there will probably be a WISH Team meet the Friday before the Half Marathon. Last year we were at Pop Food Court. Many choices and GREAT! company.

I'm not as experienced as the rest of you guys at the long distance events, only 2 halfs and 2 fulls under my belt but years of 5KIs and 10Ks. I find that as long as I don't do high fat, (FRIED ANYTHING), or very spicey the day before a race I'm fine the next day.

I've had good luck with Oriental food, pizza or pasta and seafood. I have to eat something an hour or two before a morning race, usually a cereal with skim milk with a banana. On the road a muffin or a bagal will work. You don't want to have bran the morning of the race. Just some good complex carbs.

Speaking of ADR's since we are about a month out....where is everyone making ressies???

Like I said we are looking at Chef Mickeys for our celebration dinner after the 1/2 but other then that not to much. We won't have park tickets so our only choices are at the resorts.

Where is everyone else booking ???

Kim

Haven't thought too hard about ADRs, but would definitely like to fit in Chef Mickeys on Monday the 14th since I know I can see Donald, Mickey and Goofy there. I may go for Mama Melrose on Friday night, but I haven't decided for sure yet. Saturday night will probably be at AKL since that is where we are staying, and I doubt I will want to venture out too far. Then again, I might feel the same way on Sunday too....

Just started thinking about this the other day when we confirmed our ressies at BC. We are mulling around the idea of DDP, since we'll be in such close proximity to lots of great places to eat. We pretty much always do Chef Mickey's with the kids, and we had such a great time at Ohana's last trip we probably will do that again. But other than that, just don't know yet

Geez, I've been so busy planning out ToT week that I haven't even thought about Half planing yet! :confused3

I second Lily as we at the PC food court for dinner last year and it was great. There were a lot of choices (I had the vegetarian lasagna) and we bought a few things for breakfast the next morning (bagels, bananas, peanut butter).

I always love this question!!

Kevin - You're so funny. I think when I asked this question last year you were the first to answer it also.

Judy, I agree, we are still trying to figure out all we want to do a the ToT week. One thing for sure we want to see our WISH friends as much as we can.

I'm definitely planning on whatever WISH meet Friday night.

We're planning on California Grill Saturday night after the Half. DD's 17th birthday is the 9th, so I let her choose the restaurant for her birthday dinner. (And yes, she has expensive taste!) I already have my calendar marked so I can call for ADR's on July 16th!

I haven't reread to check John Bingham's advice, but Galloway told us not to eat a big meal the night before the race. I found that interesting since so many races have big pasta dinners, but he said that it takes 18 hours for your body to process the meal, so basically you're not getting any benefit from anything you eat after lunch on the day before the race. Obviously, whatever works for you is best - I'm a newbie!

I'm no expert at this - not yet anyway....a little more WISH time and I might be! :thumbsup2 Anyway, I've read a couple of times - maybe in RW or a JB book, I can't remember - the thing to do the day before is graze. Eat a little at a time throughout the day. I have to say this worked well for me. I was never stuffed the day before and felt ready to go in the morning.

Of course, any advice that tells me to eat all day is OK by me! ;)

For Goofy '07 we did: Friday night dinner at 1900 Park Fare (GF) - great salmon and pasta!! Saturday lunch was a hamburger at Planet Hollywood (I always crave hamburgers after a long run) and Saturday dinner was at House of Blues - they have a good chicken and pasta dish (it has a cream sauce, but heavy sauces don't bother me and I like the protein and carb combination).

Good luck to all doing the races in 2008. I'll be with you in spirt (but home with my new baby - due mid-Dec.)

We're booking Boma for the earliest ADR we can Sat. night, after the half.

Still not sure about Friday, we arrive at about 7:30 am on a red-eye. I figure that we will pick something up at the food court when we check into the hotel, head over to the WOS to pick up packets and stuff and then maybe do an easy tour around AK. But lunch and dinner are all totally up in the air. Of course, there's always the WISH meet :)

Yes, that is exactly it. It's still a bit early, but the question about what to eat is a good one.

I am thinking this is the most current info to not overload the day before and to eat smart. It might be a great idea to start practicing as the LRs get a little longer to get it figured out before the big event what your body likes the night before you go out.

Same as what you can tolerate during the event.

and, btw Judy you are a veteran athlete and can answer with authority now!

Definitely plan for a WISH meet Fri before the half. We usually meet at 4:30, chat, eat and take a team photo. The POP food court was great last year and very accommodating of such a large group...IIRC, it was the leading contender for the 2008 meet.

There's usually a small group breakfast on Mon morning after the full to meet up and take photos with medals. That has been at Boardwalk Bakery in the past but always open for other ideas.

We're not really sure what to do Sat night. DH and DD14 are coming off the half and I'll be freaking out about doing the full the next day. We may save the big celebration dinner for Sun night. Ohana was great after the half last year...always love the Boma though!

Count us in on the meets. Just what the heck is the Ohana and the Boma???
