Jamie's Story

This is the story of Jamie, a young adult from Chicago with autism who participated in the Special Olympics in weight lifting. It is a long, two part cover article and I don't know how long the link will work but I saw so much of my five-year-old daughter in this twenty-four-year old man. It is well worth reading.

Thanks for sharing this. It was a little painful, yet inspiring all at the same time! Jamie's lucky he's had so many caring adults to help steer him throughout his life. His successes at work and in his competition were really neat. I think Alice deserves a gold medal too!

Me, too!!! When they were describing her drive home from the school where he worked (and earlier was a student) it almost made me cry to think about how much love it took to zig zag through the south side just to keep her son in a good place emotionally.
