going down for a quickie weekend nov 16-19, well because, you know, i have the points:thumbsup2

And my sister and her family are going to be there so figured what the heck. Was able to score a value studio, are they extremely small? just me and DD7 so room is not a concern, was just suprised it was there and figured the points was right.

I must say though, we are waitlisted for a VWL studio if that comes through i will pay the extra points.

Leaving DW and DD3 at home. Our first father-daughter excursion!

AKV value studios are the best points bargain in the entire DVC system, IMO. You have an excellent chance (I think it's 14 out of 16 or 16 out of 18) of getting either a savanna or pool view. The rooms are about 6 feet shorter than the regular studios, or the same size as a standard AKL hotel room.

They are approx 3 feet shorter than the other studios in Jambo House.

Square footage of AKV Studios:
316 sq. ft. Value Studio (Only Jambo House has Value Villas)
365 sq. ft. all other Jambo House Studios
366 sq. ft. all Kidani Village Studios

I'm in one now, solo for a few days until DH comes. I have a pool view and am near the elevator that is very convenient to the pool. For 2 people, I think they are great!

DH and I have stayed in two value studios and loved both of them. One was Savanna view, and it was terrific (tho the fridge was like those in mods, and didn't have a freezer). May '12 we stayed in 5014, near the elevator down to the pool. While at first disappointed it wasn't savanna view, we probably used the hot tub and pool more on this trip than any other, due to the easy access to the pool. And if we took the buses to the resort, we used the key access door to the resort just before the gift shop and were right at that same elevator, and whooshed up to our room. Both of these rooms were fine.

For two people, we don't miss the 3 feet, and still find the more narrow balcony fine for sitting on or watching thunderstorms move thru the area.

Love the point savings!

love them - stayed 3 times all in a pool view loved it!

if you get pool view - take the steps (not the elevator) that is near this - there is a short cut to the buses. it is between floors.

the savannah views are great too. heck for the point savings won't even mind a parking lot view.

We trying out a studio next April. The point savings is great!

We love the value studios!
We always manage to squeeze in an extra trip because of them.
We honestly don't notice much difference from the standard studio.
If you request a Dedicated studio you have a better chance not to get the parking lot view.
There are 4 Pool view and 4 Savanna View Dedicated Studios.
I just booked one for 9 nights for May 2013.

I thought you could no longer make any requests when you book value category.

IMO, the value studios at AKV are truly DVC's best kept secret (but not for long!) And as far as size, on one solo trip, I stayed in all 3 kinds of studios-standard, value, and savannah (we solos do strange things sometimes!) and never noticed any size difference. And whenever I've stayed there, the value studios get the USA today free!
The only thing, as a previous poster mentioned, I did get a value studio that had a refrigerator but no freezer once (that's once out of about 6 stays). And one time I had a microwave that seemed ancient! It worked fine though!

The USA Today's are no longer placed outside your door, but are piled on a table next to the side elevators. When you have a pool view value villa, you are very convenient to the elevators that go down to the pool or the exercise room.

Bobbi:thumbsup2

Thanks for the info! For some reason, I love getting the USA today when I'm there. So are they still free? Is it just like going to the ice machine-you just throw something on and make a quick trip down the hall and back? I'm not sure where "side elevators" are.

Yes, they are free. And yes, you just throw on something presentable and head out there - at least that's what I did - the table [with the papers] and chairs were right by the ice and vending machine. :goodvibes Personally, I like this better than outside the door in front of all the rooms. While it was convenient that way, when the papers lay there all day untouched it seemed cluttered in the hallway to me.

We just had a pool view value studio for ten nights [5020] and loved it. I think it had to be the best pool view EVER. And there was a "side" elevator right outside the door that took you straight down to the pool. None of that walking way down the hall to get to an elevator for the pool or Mara. Great room location which makes up for the fact that the last trips we were in the absolutely last room of the entire lodge - a reclassified savanna view studio.

when did Jambo House get ice machine on the 5th floor?

might have to go back....

So glad to hear this info. We are staying in one in march 2013. it will be the first time we will stay at our home resort. When we made the reservation the CM was all excited for us that one was available!

I never knew they didn't. :confused3 I have stayed at Jambo many times on the 5th floor and have always had an ice machine on that floor. The ice machine I was talking about was right by the "pool" elevators.

Yes, and when I got a value studio with no freezer compartment, that ice machine got a few visits from me. rlduval, I had that exact value studio once-it IS a very nice view.
