Faith, just ask for the wrap at the gift shop they will give it to you free if you tell them you are using it for the ostrich eggs that your kids painted at Adventure Camp. My niece and nephew really loved the whole lodge and seeing the animals! We had to have a nonsmoking room also because of allergies and actually the kids did not mind not having the bunk beds. It was more my sister did not want them to have to share a bed. Have a great time!

Hi

We did the Segway tour earlier this year, it was great! I was a bit nervous about it and it is a bit harder than it looks, but lots of fun and the instructors are great, very patient! You do about an hour of training and then get to tour the World. I wrote an article about it for the passporter newsletter a few weeks ago so if you would like more detail check it out: http://www.passporter.com/news/news072706.htm

Awesome article! Thank you! I've even more excited about trying them now... :cool1:

HAVE AN AWESOME TRIP SCOUTSMOM! I look forward to your trip report filled with pictures (hint hint!) :teeth:

Okay AKL aficionados here’s a question for ya-
Paul and I are doing the sunset safari and the included Jiko tasting dinner.
For anyone who has done this tasting dinner and also regular dinner at Jiko-
Are we missing out on anything by not also going to Jiko on another night
as well or will we get a fairly good idea of the Jiko experience from the tasting dinner?

wallyb,

It's more of a feast than a tasting dinner at Jiko. You'll get three different entrees (usually filet, chicken and fish with side dishes), several appetizers, dips and a hugh dessert tray. It also comes with three South African wines. Everything was great. You and Paul won't be disappointed.

Wow you are coming back on the day i am leaving! Have a great time!

We had booked POR for our Oct trip but when the Fl Rest AP rate came out I upgraded to the AKL. I have always wanted to stay but just never could afford the extra $$$ for it. I did not tell my DH & DS what I've done so it will be a BIG SURPRISE when I won't be following the signs to POR. Can't wait to see the looks on there faces. This will be our last trip to WDW for a few years since we want to be able to do a few different trips instead.

A request if anyone has pics of a 2 queen deluxe/concierge room I would greatly appreciate it. I have seen the king deluxe but not the one with 2 queens. Just wondering how big the pull out is in this room.

Just got back from our 4 night stay at AKL. What a beautiful place! We were supposed to stay in a standard view room (as part of a trip package I won), but when we checked in we were advised that we were being upgraded to a Savannah view :cool1: What a great surprise. We were in room 2284. It was at the end of the savannah, but still great close-up views of the animals. The giraffes walked righ by the balcony......it was truly an amazing experience! I'm so glad I had the opportunity to stay at AKL. I'm not sure I would have thought to stay there otherwise, but it was definitely worth it for anyone that may be on the fence! Boma was excellent and the pool/slide were both great! Didn't have time to do any of the activities for the kids, but there were plenty being offered! GREAT PLACE!!!!!

Fellow Kim/NJ'er:

Once you stay at AKL, you never want to stay anywhere ELSE!! I hope that you post some pix for us.....

Thanks to all who responded abou the Ostrich Eggs. My kids are so looking forward to this. Looks like Wendypooh will have lots of people picking her brain when returning.

While I have you all, one more question. We are leaving in 15 days (I can't believe it) :Pinkbounc for AKL and we have booked a standard room. The standard room wasn't my favorite choice, but made the AKL "do able" for us. I booked our package through Disney back in June and requested bunk beds. I was just reading a post on another thread that someone thought bunk beds would not be available in a standard and cost extra. At the time I booked I inquired if there was an extra fee that would guarantee the beds and was told no. Does anybody know if there are bunk beds available in a standard and/or if I can pay more for them to guarnatee the beds?...

Faith ~

I believe that the extra fee for 'guaranteed bunks' takes effect as of Jan 1, 2007.....sending some pixiedust: your way, so that you get upgraded.... :teeth:

I've posted this is another thread also, but seeing this is the official AKL thread, I figured you guys might be able to answer my query.

I have had the option to stay at AKL for the whole of my vacation (3 wks) instead of doing a 3 way split, 7 nights Caribbean Resort, 7 nights AKL and 7 nights Crowne Plaza Universal.

Do you think I should just stay at AKL for the whole vacation. My concern is transportation and AKL is so far away from the other resorts/parks. As I intend doing Universal/Seaworld/Discovery Cove I worry that I won't be able to access transport easily on I-Drive can someone confirm or deny this? I need to confirm my booking and pay the deposit tomorrow.

Thanks

...if you are concerned about being able to get to the US/IoA area (although, for the life of me, I can't imagine WHY :confused3 .... :teeth: !), perhaps you could stay at Crowne Plaza Universal for 8 or 9 days (to do all the 'stuff' in THAT area) and then switch over to AKL for the last part of your trip. As far as transportation is concerned, CBR's transportation is NO BETTER than AKL's....[besides, we stayed at CBR and didn't care for this resort...]
