Hi all! We are going to be staying in a standard view one bedroom in Jambo House this Fall. This will be our first time at rhe resort, and I have heard that you can make room requests. So just looking to see if anyone has tips as far as making requests. For example, is the top floor better for viewing the scenery? Or do people think rooms can be a far walk and a room near the lobby might be better? Thanks!

DVC rooms at Jambo are only on the top floor. If you want a lower floor you will need to stay at Kidani. We prefer the higher rooms and prefer Jambo over Kidani. Its a gorgeous resort. Enjoy.

I just got super excited about the Jambo House Grand Villa! It appears they were recently renovated or at least flooring and paint? Im thinking about renting points for my son’s graduation gift with some cousins - it has a pool table and savannah view!?!? Incredible!

It sounds like you know this resort well. What can you tell me about these rooms? Do you know which savannah they look out on or which location is preferable? Thanks!

The standard rooms at Jambo will have either a pool-view or a partial savanna-view. Both are nice. You can't go wrong with Jambo! If you would like a partial savanna-view, I would recommend requesting a room on the Kudu Trail. If you would prefer pool-view, request Zebra Trail. Have a wonderful trip!

We’ve stayed once in a grand villa at Jambo. It is huge…and yes…it has a pool table room. The only downside is that the savannah view rooms are on the ends of the building wings…so you are looking at the end of the savannah. And…it is a long walk from the lobby. With that being said…it is a fabulous room to stay in with the entire family. We saw lots of animals, including many giraffes. The balconies are very large and have the thatched roofs. The master bathroom is HUGE…with a gorgeous tub and a Mufasa mural. The pool is fantastic, dining is great…Boma at breakfast may be the best buffet on property. We love the resort and the grand villas are awesome. Some people feel that the resort is too far away from everything. I have never found it to be a problem at all. We have stayed at many of the resorts at WDW and they all have their unique perks. I hope you have a wonderful time if you choose to stay at Jambo.

You’ll be on floor 5, unless your on club level, then it’s 6.

you can make request, but nothing is guaranteed

We've stayed at Jambo 3 times and also at Kidani 3 times... I think our favorite spot TBH is on the Giraffe trail, facing the Uzima pool. I believe we were in room@5014 Studio.... Now the key to this is, 1) it's right near the elevator, which will take you to ground floor, and then enter pool area/food/gym area etc. 1 floor up, and it bypasses going all the way back to the lobby & back down the outside path to the buses....You safe a ton of wasted steps. Both going, but especially upon return, when you're really tired. The doorway leads right outside, and only a handful of steps away from the buses.. we also stayed in the lobby section just around the corner from the DVC laundry room. Balcony was basically over BOMA restaurant.... Good views and still not too bad a walk....The 3rd time we had a savannah view and was 2 pods down from there. so there was still a short cut to the pool area, albeit on the opposite side of the grounds, but a lot further from the lobby, and a heck of a way to the bus stops... All in all, it's easily one of the best resorts out there...CM's are awesome, food is great and the ambience is well worth a stay or 2 there....Enjoy

OP has a standard view villa booked at Jambo, they will not get Giraffe trail because all the DVC villas on Giraffe (and Ostrich) trail are a different booking category - value villas & there are only 10 lock off 2 br.s + 8 standalone studio value villas.
All of the GV are savanna view and none are on Giraffe trail.
If I ever snag a value booking I agree the Giraffe trail rooms have a convenient shortcut from the bus stop via the ‘hidden‘ door. Alas, because there are so few value villas DVC reportedly won’t take location requests for a value reservation.

True..You are right...I forgot that my 1st stay was a value studio.....I'll gladly give up a few sq. ft for the lower price/point.. & the convenience

I was able to make a request when I stayed at a Value Studio several months ago. I did not make it via MDE or an app but instead called Member Services and requested Ostrich Trail. When I checked in the CM informed me that they were able to grant my request. The key here from what I have read is to make requests through MS and then DO NOT do any changes through MDE as that will overwrite your previous request.

I have always been told you can't make requests for a value studio. I'm curious. Did you get savanna-view or parking lot view?

That’s been the conventional wisdom for years. There are so few value villas I’d expect that even if they note your request your chances of getting it are lower than in other categories due to supply & demand - although since there are only 2 possibilities w/ a generic Ostrich or Giraffe trail request you have a 50% chance of getting Ostrich if that’s your choice.

My luck with the value is that I would request Ostrich and get 1 of the 2 parking lot view studio...
8 of the 18 value studios are "savannah view", 8 are "pool view" and 2 are "parking lot view".
We lucked up in Dec with a value studio on Ostrich with "savannah view."
Awesome room for the amount of points and for the 3 of us!
(We lucked into a value studio in Sept. and hoping for the same room!)

I have lost count of the number of times we have stayed in value rooms. We have almost always gotten pool-view (including one two weeks ago). The only time we got savanna-view was Thanksgiving 2019 when I had three value studios booked, and we got two savanna-view and one parking lot view. If ScottOKW2K was able to make a request, instead of making a location request, couldn't you make a view request? Or do they only take location requests for these?

Savannah View. I realized that parking lot was a possibility and I would have been happy with that. What I have heard is that they will not take View requests but will try to fill location requests. If you look at the image below if I was provided my location request I stood an 80% chance of getting my desired view.

Actually slightly higher for Ostrich - including the 2 parking lot views it has 10 studios, Giraffe has 8.

Changing the subject slightly it is possible to get savanna views in a standard room booking. See below - the ones highlighted are standard view studios.

Actually you are getting back to OP’s original question about standard view 1 br.s at Jambo :). I always simply request Kudu trail when I have a standard view booked - these photos show the results of that request in 2017, 2018, & 2021. They are all 1 br.s or 2 br.s (which at Jambo are all a 1 br. + the studio next door.)

All 1BRs at Jambo are part of 2BR lock-offs (1BR connected to a studio). See this map which shows where all the 1BRs are in light blue, with each next to a studio in orange. www.parkinfo2go.com/dvc-akv/floor5-large.html.

Also see this map, which provides in blue the location of the standard view rooms at Jambo: i.imgur.com/G2qaSva.png. Standard view rooms have either a pool view or a savanna view, and more than half the standard view rooms have savanna view (just views not considered quite good enough to be savanna view rooms but still decent views). As mentioned above, a possible non-guaranteed request to make through member services is for a "room on the Kudo Trail side of the building" (the left side of the u-shaped building when facing the front) The reason: all standard views on that side of the building have savanna view and thus, if your request is granted, you will have a savanna view room. Note, do not request a "standard view room with a savanna view" as MS personnel often just declare as to that request that you need to get a savanna view room to have savanna view, which is not correct.
