For all of you AKL Jambo House vets...

We have a Standard View Studio and I am putting in our room requests for online check-in. We have never stayed at AKL and so I don't know what to request! Our priorities are 1. a savanna view, 2. a pool view, 3. near the lobby. What two should I select? My options are the following:

Arusha Savanna View
Sunset Savanna View
Kudu Trail View
Near Lobby
Near Elevator

Thanks for any suggestions!

Easy answer. None of the views are pertinent to a standard view booking. It is kind of annoying that they pop up as options on online check in, as you won't get any of them with this room category.

Your options are close to elevator/lobby. Both are good ideas.

Yeah, hate to break it but when booking at points at AKL very rarely (if ever) will they put you in a Savannah or Pool view if you have a standard booked. Unless you actually have a value studio booked? In which case these options are all relevant.

I would suggest near an elevator, or lobby if walking is an issue. You can always try with the Savannah, just don't get too excited lol.

Thanks on the comments so far!

I have a standard...

But, I thought that several rooms were changed from the savanna to standard designation, but still have a decent savanna view? If I requested a savanna view, maybe they would give me one of those?

I remember also reading that the standard rooms at Jambo don't overlook parking; so if they don't, what do they overlook?

I'll just chime in to say my friend just stayed two weeks.... two separate reservations with rented points for a standard studio. They gave her a savannah view. It wasn't the typical view, but near the fence where the animals line up to get their daily indoor routine...
since she was staying on in the same category, they let her keep the same room for the second week...
she was, however, at the end of the earth... while I had a value studio two doors from the lobby elevator with a lovely view of some thatched roofs...

??? - Aren't the pool view villas on Zebra trail standard view, and the pool view villas on Giraffe trail value villas, or am I totally confused?

I was advised a few weeks ago that all standard view studios at Jambo ( not Kidani and not non dvc rooms) are either pool or, rarely , partial savanna view. :confused3

We stayed there in early May in a standard view, and ended up in one of the reclassified rooms. I had rented points, so I was very hesitant to check off any of the savannah options, for fear that the owner would have additional points deducted. So I chose near elevator and near lobby. We ended up on the left side of the lobby as you come in. Our room was near the lobby, and if we went up the steps we were almost right at our door. But because the elevators on that side are halfway down the hallways, we were not close to the elevator at all. Didn't use them except when we had our luggage. When we arrived, there was also a fence up in the savannah, and no animals in sight. But, I was just glad we weren't looking at a parking lot. When we arrived back on day 2, fence was down, and about 6 giraffes were right in front of us, along with ostriches and zebras.

Oh, and we had an early check-in too. Got there at maybe 11 am? I had also marked on the online check-in that my priority was for the room to be ready. Good luck!

We had a standard studio last year before moving to a grand villa. It was a pool view and it was a very nice view.

As an owner who has rented out points in the past, I just want to say :thanks: for thinking of the owner.

Actually, it's now rarely pool and mostly reclassified, meaning substandard, savanna view. I much preferred the old days of a guaranteed pool view. I truly dislike the majority of the reclassified savanna view.

Read somewhere on the boards that pool view rooms can be noisy?:confused3
I would imagine that to be the case like most pool view rooms at resorts!
With pools, come noise, naturally!:rotfl:

I have never found a pool view room at Jambo noisy. Maybe because they are 5th floor.

A pool view can be noisy if you are there mid-day during the dance party time at the pool. They have the music quite loud. I wouldn't mind so much except it always seemed to happen right when we were trying to get the kids down for a nap!

OTH, I'm glad that when I splurge on the points to secure a savanna view I won't end up in one of those substandard savanna view villas:)
Now if we could just get those Pembe savanna view villas over in Kidani reclassified into their own category of savanna view so that I could book Kidani and not end up looking out on Pembe:stir:

The last two times we have stayed at Jambo House (both standard views) we have been in the last room on the Uzima side and the second to last room on the sunset side (both partial savannah views). We even requested to be near the lobby when we were there a couple weeks ago and that didn't happen. So you can request whatever you'd like, but in the end they are going to put you wherever there is room.

I rented DVC points last year for a Standard view. What I received was a fantastic view of the Sunset Savannah.
If I looked down from the balcony, I saw a circular fence that I presume was an animal pen of some kind (even though there were never animals in it). But if I looked outwards (as you do naturally anyway) I had a great view of animals. Particularly giraffes which seemed to like hanging out next to a tree near our room.

I'm guessing the room was classified 'standard' due to the pen, however in my mind I felt like I'd been given an upgrade.
If the system gives you the option to request a Savannah view when booking a standard, then I think there is no harm in trying.
