(I am re-posting this from the Resorts Board)

I feel like I hit the jackpot today. 2 years ago my neighbors gave us their DVC points and we stayed 10 nights at OKW in a 1 bedroom suite. The place was unreal and after that trip I thought I would have a problem staying anywhere else. We adore POR and have stayed there 3 times and we were all booked with our next trip there oct 25-Nov 4.

My neighbor called me this afternoon and said they would not be using the points this year and once again gave them to us for the yearly maint. fee. I was so happy I was dancing. Weird feeling as I am kinda sad I won't be at POR and we love having the food court, I don't really love Olivia's (we are vegetarians) and there is only 1 thing on the menu we can have there.

Anyway, with everything added up we saved $818.00 by using the points!

Thanks for listening to my excitement, no one else would understand

How does it work if you want to stay somewhere that is not your "home"?

Don't let them know about this board, they might start renting those points at $10 per point. :)

I told them that years ago! They don't want to be bothered by doing that and I am more then happy to buy them for the yearly fee!!

Now that we saved money on this trip, I can plan another :jumping1:

What is your neighbors address??

I think I would like to move next door!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

"Helllloooo neighbor!!!!

Will you have a car? POR is just a few minutes away if you really want to go there to eat. We did that a couple of trips ago as we had food vouchers to use and they accepted them there. It was a fun change

We have never rented a car at Disney. But I was thinking about it for this trip. We will be there for 11 days and I want to go to Universal for a day, I was told I could rent a car for under $150? If I add up:

Tiffany Town car roundtrip
bus service to Universal
maybe some taxi's here and there

Might be better to rent a car and then we can make grocery trips and such. I would love to explore the other resorts and eat at Boma and Spoodles without the hassle of the buses. Do we get to park for free at the other resorts?

Good news for you that your neighbor won't be goin home. What a great opportunity. Don't forget that Disney also will be offering free transportation from Orlando Intl airport to your resort. That would save you some money too. Annmarie

I rent at the airport with who ever has the best deal. If memory serves, I think Alamo/National is on-site at Disney as you leave MK parking. Weekly rates might be around $150 if you get a compact car.

Yes you would have a parking voucher to put on the dash so you can park everywhere with no charge unless you use valet at certain resorts. There is car rental at either the Swan or Dolphin also if you wanted to use the new ME option and then just rent for some of the days you are there. I have found it is best to make a reservation as early as possible before I go and last time I used a BJ's coupon and saved a bunch though that doesn't always work. There are also ideas and discount rates listed on mousesavers most times also. Having a car is a must for us as we like to hit super Walmart for groceries, Jungle Jims for a meal or two and one of the outlets for Disney souvenirs as well as going to Universal on occasion. We always use a credit card that covers the insurance which keeps the cost down also. I do check with my credit card company before we go to make certain first though. I also make a reservation and then keep checking as sometimes you can get a better rate so you just change it. I have never had to give my credit card number in advance except for my emerald club contract so no danger of being charged if I forget to cancel. You should be able to get good rates for the time you are going.

That's a wonderful offer from your neighbors. If you are interested and they are willing, you could ask them to check availability for you at one of the other DVC resorts so you could try something different. I know a lot of folks here love OKW but it's actually my least favorite of the DVC resorts at WDW.

Wow, you have very nice neighbors, and you must be special too! Enjoy your trip! That's a great time of the year to be at WDW.

Wow! You have a nice neighbor!

As poohj80 mentioned, you could book at any of the DVC resorts based on availability and that way you might have other food options besides Olivias.

You can rent a full-size car for about $150 if you work with the right contract numbers and if you have any coupons. When we stay at OKW, we often drive around the corner and grab a quick bite at POR or POFQ ourselves. Have a great trip!

Wow! What a neighbor! :sunny: The only thing we get from our neighbor is what their dog leaves. ;) :sad2:

Have fun - again! :flower: :earsboy: :flower:

LOL

My neighbor already made our reservation. Are there any rules for changing them to a different resort?

We thought we might like to try the Boardwalk. I think it's the same points for the time we are going.

The only rule is how early they can make a reservation at a resort which is not their home resort. If you are within 7 months of your dates, they can check availability at any of the other DVC resorts. If BWV is available, they would just need to cancel the OKW reservation and keep the new reservation. Staying at the BWV will probably cost a few more points though.

We are 6 months out. I just checked the points chart and it is only 2 more points for the entire stay for a 1 bedroom. 42 on the weekend instead of 41 at OKW, the weekdays are the same at 18 per day.

So there is no penalty for changing resorts? I would love to try something different and BWV would give us vegetarians more options for dining. Although I will really miss the boat to DTD.

What are your thoughts?
