Jack Russell Terriers - anyone have experience?

My Dad has one that is referred to as a "Jack Tussell Terrorist". She's quite highstrung and it took them forever to housetrain her, but she is a fun little dog.

My sister has a JRT and two words describe it perfectly: darn dog!

Charlotte the doggy is amazingly cute but very hyper and rather destructive.
The obedience classes did not work but my sister did teach the dog to stay off the leather couch.

But I can tell you this, that darling dog is very sweet and really is a great addition to the family. Just know they will certainly chew on anything (including my sister's brand new cellphone) and are VERY hyper!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm still undecided, but I think we'll definitely try to find one as young as possible to socialize it to our elderly dog and cats. Hypers not a problem, our male cat is a bundle of energy and when my lab was younger he was going non stop for the first 8 years of his life - LOL.

We had one offered to us as a present from a friend who knew a breeder.. ultimately, cute as she was, we had to say no because we have cats. We read at http://www.terrier.com/breed/baddog.php3 that they: "... are commonly known to harass, injure or kill other small pets, such as cats, birds, rabbits, mice, rats, etc., simply due to their strong natural hunting instinct. Raising a puppy with a cat does not guarantee the cat's life-long safety!"

We also read a couple of accounts on that site about Jack Russells who killed their families' cats, so that scared us off. I'm sure these are extreme cases, but we were just too scared to take the risk.
