J and J’s Disney trip report 2009 3/17-3/25
Loosely titled - Compromise

Cast
Me – Disney fanatic – 39:lovestruc
DBF – Doesn’t really like Disney all that much but airfare was a deal so he allowed me to plan a trip – 43:surfweb:

• another couple joined us for part of the trip so we’ll call them Lilo and Stitch:hug:

Preface –

So I’ve been bugging DBF to go to Disney again this year. It was an adamant NO!!!! until a friend at work told him about $29 airfare out of our local airport. So just to prove his friend wrong he checked it out and low and behold it was true. So I get an e-mail at work one day showing me the airfare. I hesitantly ask…..does this mean we can go? (fingers and toes crossed) So he replies we’ll talk about it when you get home.
So after much discussion….and making sure he knew being that being that close to Disney and not letting me go is like taking him to a golf course with Tiger Woods and saying you can’t play….. he finally agreed to a compromise. He was allotted as much pool and relaxation time as I was allotted Disney time.

And so the process begins….endless hours on the dis boards…researching Orlando restaurants and hotels, purchasing tickets….oh and winning a free ticket to Universal.

We decided we would stay offsite at Bonnet Creek since the cost would be so much less than staying in Disney…..although again compromise…he let me book 2 nights at SSR since we were able to rent points. The other couple would be sharing the cost of a 2 bedroom at Bonnet Creek so that would also save some money….woo hoo!!! We’re on our way!

Day 1 – 3/17

After a thankfully uneventful flight and a few wrong turns we arrive at Bonnet Creek resort around 3:45pm. Does anyone else think that GPS makes you feel stupid after making a wrong turn by repeating” stay on the current roadway” several times or that your boyfriend or husband listens way better to the woman in the GPS( which we now refer to as Maggie) than he does to you. Ok, back to the topic at hand. Our room was not ready, because we had requested a fireworks view and they were still cleaning it. So we walked around the resort a bit to check it out. I was dead set on not liking this resort because it was not a Disney resort but I have to admit…..it was really nice. The other couple was taking in a Phillies spring training game so they had not arrived yet. So we decided to take a ride to get some groceries. Being the vacation planner that I am I had sent for a Winn Dixie club card to save some money….which I though would impress everyone with my forethought, however they just shook their head when I showed them. What’s up with that?
So when we get back the room was finally ready and Lilo and Stitch has also arrived after their GPS mis-directed them a few times. So we get to the room and it was absolutely awesome. Ok, maybe staying offsite isn’t that bad. Walked out to the balcony and what was directly in front of me but the Epcot ball…..Ok Bonnet Creek you’ve won me over.
After about an hour or so…we decided to go to dinner. Stitch had previously checked out restaurants.com and purchased a $50 gift cert. for Bento for $10. So we head down to Bento, have an excellent meal…that only ended up costing another $58 with drinks for 4 people. Bargain!!!!!

After dinner, we head over to Coronas cigar shop, as DBF and Stitch are huge cigar aficionados. Spend some time there chatting with a salesperson who is one of the first people we will meet is actually from Florida! He was really cool. So we finish our cigars outside and decide to buy a Pizza from a poor delivery guy who was ditched.
We decide to head back with our newly adopted pizza….as we are all tired. Start walking back to the parking garage when ….how shall we say….we get quite an adult show from young ummm lady that had apparently been celebrating St. Patty’s day for a while and was dressed for it from her green bikini top to her skivvies. I know….don’t ask. And that was the eventful ending to our first day.
