But DD has had 2 colds in the past 2 months. This makes 5 times total that she has been sick in her life. I am worried that this is a sign of the winter to come for us. I don't really mind so much her being sick at home but I really don't want her to get sick in DW. How do I prevent the germies from attacking DD while we are there?

Handwashing..lots and lots and lots of good, quality, handwashing. We have been extra vigilent with the kids with this. We make them use warm/hot water, scrub well..sing a song while they scrub so that they scrub long enough (usually we sing Happy Birthday in our head LOL) they have a special handwashing song at school.

Hand sanitizers have their place, but really don't take the place of really good handwashing.

I feel like I sound like my grandmother. LOL

Anyway, I'm sure there are other things, but in this flu season especially, I don't think you can wash your hands too much..and obviously have the kids keep their hands away from their face.

I'm with ya on this one. I've had one sick kid after another (and I only have 3!) since school started (darn classrooms). I also work EMS, and just this past weekend encountered quite a few sick people. I came home and wanted to Germ X myself head to toe!! :scared1: I'm tempted to wear a mask every time I leave my house these days!
I'll be carrying my hand wipes and Germ X all over the parks soon. And trying to get the kids/keep the kids healthy...what a chore! I have a fingernail chewer that just doesn't get it! Too much YUCK going around this year already, and its only the end of October. I'm hoping for a nice, quiet winter.
Good luck to you. I hope your kids are feeling better. Mine are on the mend. :thumbsup2

I've given up almost on taking extra extra precaution. My kids have been sick probably once a month since we moved to tx almost 2 yrs ago. IT SUCKS. We know and the docs know that its the area, but the military wouldnt give us a reassignment because of it. We are moving back to our hometown (we randomly got assigned there w/o asking) in about 3months, so we dont have much longer. But, usually if we are going out and about all day we sanatize hands, keep them in the stroller, scrub hands after the bathroom, etc. Since H1N1 is so bad here we have also limited the kids trips out. We usually put them in daycare when we have to go to town for stuff because the daycare is pretty much not allowing anyone w/ h1n1 symptoms in for a week or doctors clearance right now esp into the hourly care rooms.
