I've just been on Bon Voyage's website, and been quoted this -
2 adults and 1 child flying with American airlines - £733
19 days car hire with Alamo, for a 4 door compact with all inclusive insurance - £436.
Is this a good price, or should I shop around a bit ?

:D Well, let's put it this way. I've not been able to get any flights through Virgin Holidays direct, so have just been looking on the virgin Atlantic website. Two adults, one 10 year child - flights only, premium economy - into Miami for 16 days next April for the grand total of . . . . . .£4318.81!!!! Blimey. Needless to say I'm still shopping around!

what time of year is that?

I think it looks very good for the flights, car hire I'm not sure as I havent' done 19 days, I did 17 days last year and paid £350 all in,

Bev

Its a wonder they do any business at all with those prices Annie :p

Its late November Bev (28th)
The car hire is for 18 days sorry not 19, and you have to book at least 5 days car hire with them, to get the low cost flight, so I wouldn't be able to shop around on that.

I am looking at a similiar time frame, and had seen those prices for Dec 5th, but they have gone now for Dec, so if you are planning on using them I would get something in writing asap.

Do you need accomodation too? The only other alternative I have been looking at is Thomsons packages - although you can't do 19 nights, but they have got free kids deals at the moment.

It works out at £1300 for the 3 of us at HI NIkki Bird for 2 weeks, flying Nov 29th 2003.

So, I am in a dilemma - should we go for 2 weeks or 10 days as originally planned????

Bev

btw, you can book 3 nights accomodation instead - kazzie has done that, and told them she won't be using the accomodation - if I book through them, then I will book some accomodation but I will use it.

Bev

Hi Bev :D
I don't need accommodation, I'm going to rent a town home in Emerald Island (thanks to one of the dibbers)
£1300 isn't bad is it - I'd do the 2 weeks if I were you :p

Hi alex

You can book flight only through bon-voyage, i know on the web site is tells you, you must take carhire or hotel, i intended on taking the 3 days hotel and not using it, as this worked out cheaper than buying the flights from virgin, but when i rang them the lady told me, it was fine to just book a flight. and thats for next year. so give them a call.
I booked my car hire with choice air holidays, for 18 days at £376 including full insurance and thats with dollar.

hope this helps

Sam

it seems to depend on the flight - some of them require you to take the accomodation and others don't. I've booked for next June without accomodation, and for next December with (at All Stars :D)

Bev

Hi Alex,

What Bev meant was I've booked three nights accomodation (the minimum you can book) and won't be using the accomodation as I've a villa booked.Three nights in the cheapest hotel was £29 a night,so in one way I've 'wasted'£87.But the flight prices from Bon Voyage were £130 each cheaper than the Virgin quote and that was after my 10% frequent Virgin discount, and also cheaper than any other company even with the £87 above!

Sam,thats interesting that Bon Voyage said they could do flight only:eek:

Hi Kazzie :D
With the flight I'm thinking of booking, I had to book either 3 days accommodation OR 5 days car rental, so I figured I might aswell go with the car rental because I'll be needing that anyway.
My biggest problem is trying to persude dh thats its better to book it all up now  He would rather wait until the summer time to book, but theres no way I'm doing that, I've got someone holding dates on a townhome for me until I've booked my flights.
Anyway, I think its nice to have something to look forward to :p

I spoke to Bon Voyage today, and she told me there cheapest flight prices can only be sold as a 'package' but that some of the other prices are available flight only. Our June flights are just flights, but for November we have had to book accomodation as well - although I've been pondering this, and might change it to take their car hire as it seems theres a good chance I could get a better rate at All Stars on my own. (They are charging £75/night)

Bev

Oh well. guess i must of been lucky then, i booked my flights for the of march, they were £295 and virgin wanted £345 each, so as kazzie said it would still of worked out cheaper if i had
taken accomadation. i've saved £150.!!! i havent really saved though, because i saved £150 i thought we sould go for an extra 3 nights anyway. thanks bon voyage!!!

sam

Thanks for clarifying that:)

I was thinking about it ( I know I don't have a life!) and thought the different rates thing must be the reason.
