I've got me spyglass out for Yavn...

More news on the disappearance of the word Disney and VMK, and all related articles on Yavn's blog.

The site, yavn.com, was closed for around 20 minutes last night for maintenance, and opened with all the regular articles except any mentioning his role with Disney or VMK.

Hopefully he just decided that his inclusion of Disney stuff on his personal site was inappropriate? :confused3

Hopefully Yavn is hard at work at great stuff coming soon. He did seem awfully excited about the turkey leg... maybe he's designing that cart himself. :lmao:

Or, maybe *Disney* thought it was.
Which, I would personally have to agree with.
I only ever looked at it when it was first started, but what I saw, I thought was completely inappropriate. He was ranting about how people responded to the game. If he wants to go and rant about work on his own personal blog using his actual name, whatever, that's all fine and dandy. Goodness knows I've ranted about work in my own blog. This issue I took with it was that he was doing this with the name "yavn" which is the name all the kids on VMK know him as. He is in a lot of ways a sort of "spokesperson" for VMK, what with his newsletter and all. And to drag Disney and VMK into his personal views and opinions where he knows very well all those players can see it is just not professional. He's honestly rubbed me the wrong way ever since then. I also think it's completely inappropriate for staff to read things on PUBLIC message boards not owned by Disney and then bring it up to the player in game. I have no idea if that still happens, but it used to and I found that inappropriate as well.
*steps off the soapbox*

Agreed.

Regardless of the reason we have not seen him, I will be glad when he is back. More interesting things happen when he is active.

Hi,

For the record I do not believe Yavn has left VMK or gone anywhere. Maybe they are being told to have less contact with us who knows. we never really know with Disney. There is a interesting development. Yavn's site is gone-forbidden. He seems to have either pulled the plug on it or there is problems.

Bug

I think we should all patiently wait for an update. Obviously something is keeping the VMK crew team held back. Yeah i know its been about a month and i know they could say "Hey guys we're still alive and all but we're busy" but i'm sure they'll have big surprise in store for us. ;)

As I said before if they just did an update once a month that would be fine with me. I do think that during certain times it might require a little more then that (like when a game opens, etc). But really its not needed for more then that, to update what the month is bringing us, and maybe a hint of something to come in the "soon" to be future. :upsidedow I do believe that if he was gone that we would have heard about the change at this point. News travels pretty darn fast when it comes to things like that.

moikturtle, I agree with what you said. :thumbsup2

The real reason the newsletter is never updated is because Nemo month is so uneventful they have nothing to tell us about.

Here comes another Pirate Rant...

I just got back from my Orientation trip to UCSB last night. And its a good thing I got back early... because there was a 1 Day Only pin up for sale. I didn't have credits, I was CAUGHT unawares.

So, I literally had five or so minutes to garner 500 credits or more. Thankfully, it was a Double Pirates day, so I got nearly 1000 credits after a few games of CTF.

But this is what the Newsletter should have warned us about! "Hey VMK-ers! VMK's Birthday is coming up on Tuesday, so make sure you keep an eye out for something special!"

No news?! Please...

This whole month has been somewhat of a vacation for the designers. Yes, the pins are beautiful, but the Alice items are totally unnecessary.

Wasn't this a Nemo themed month? And we're getting ALICE ITEMS every weekend?!

Am I the only one seeing a problem with this?

And the Double Fun Days didn't start until HALF WAY through the Month.

Also, I had a huge problem with the 4th of July. Nontradeable pins, only able to get one.

And the return of the 4th of July Hat! I thought we'd get something along the lines of a newer, spiffier looking hat. Instead, we get another rerelease. I see the need to rerelease items to new players, but don't the old players want to see something new?

And I have a feeling deep down in my heart that says that the Straw Hat won't be released until next summer.

I just think that the past several months have been hugely wasted by the VMK staff (I still believe that Pirate Month '07 was a disappointment). I love them for finally releasing the Seagull Post, but I can only take so much.

Rant ended.

FIngers crossed we will see something soon!

But patience we must have... after all this wonderful game is FREE!:cool1:

This is why you should always be prepared for any surprises! Personally, I was happy to have a surprise for us yesterday.

It gets boring when you know what to expect all the time.

It's really not difficult to save up credits if you can play the games well.

As for this month, yavn stated that they are working on several things including a new game. This may be why there is so few new things this month.

I have a feeling that something big may be ahead. ;)

Come on, let's be fair to some working professionals here.....

We have no clue what responsibilities the VMK Staff has. VMK is a FREE game. We know that it is run by an outside company and businesses allocate their staff time as they see fit. Do they ONLY work on VMK? Do they have other projects? Do they have X amount of design items a month owed by contractual obligation? We have no idea. It's a business. The things we see today were most likely designed several months back.

To say that the past months have been hugely wasted by VMK staff assumes that you know what they are supposed to accomplish. None of us know that.

Bottom line: VMK is a marketing tool. That's it. And if it made anyone go to the Parks or buy pins or DVDs or anything else Disney that they would not have otherwise bought, the VMK staff has been successful with their job.

Thanks VMK staff for all of the cool underwater stuff, plants, dancing flowers, and mushrooms! Fun stuff.

btw, congrats, Pirate, on UCSB. Could not pick a more beautiful place to party for the next several years!

you can say that again... On the way back to the airport, the little movie they have on magical express shows vmk in it, to experience the magic from home, or whatever it says... People are going to see that go to the website, play the game, love it and see that there was in-park quests, and be like oh crap, i need to go back to disney... a big marketing trap everyone tries not fall into, but people do...

and as it was said before, way back there was no such thing as "the vmk newsletter", or "Yavn Speaks"... just be happy that he actually told us stuff and wanted us to know stuff, even if it was a short while..
