The doctor gave me Percoset for it but I hate the side effects (besides making me drowsy, it makes me feel really jumpy.) Does anybody know of any good pain medications without that kind of side effect that I might be able to ask my doctor about on Monday?
Thanks

If you haven't passed it by Monday, you may need to seek out something other than a pain killer. I found NOTHING worked for my pain (have had them 3 episodes now) except an anti inflamatory like motrin, only a lot stronger, I wish I could remember the name, but it specific for kidney stones, as they pass from the kidney to the bladder, the ureter is spasming, which causes great pain. This drug settles that spasming down.

Good luck, sweetie, I know how bad it hurts.

A friend of mine has a kidney stone, and he was given Dilauded, which is right up there with Morphine! Not too many MD's are going to prescribe that though.

If Percocet is too strong for you, downgrade to maybe Lorcet Plus or Vicodin. In Virginia, they can be phoned into the pharmacy for you as they are class/schedule III narcotics. Percocet and Dilauded, a class/schedule II narcotic, can't.

I usually take Darvacet because I can't take Vicodin. When I have a stent in, I take the maximum Darvecet along with an anti-spasm prescription.

Good Luck. I was out almost 8 weeks with mine last summer.

Nothing to add here, but I am sorry to hear you are in pain. I do hope you feel better soon :)

I've never had an experience with kidney stones, so I have no advice about pain relief.

I hope you are out of pain soon, though. Sorry to hear you have to deal with this.

Sorry to hear about this. I hope you're feeling better soon.:D

Becki, I wish I had never read this thread!!! I was in the ER 4.5 hours Sunday with 2. They haven't passed yet, but I have some real good meds (Toradol?) and I hope to see them soon. How about you are you feeling any better?

I don't have any advice on this subject but I hope you are feeling better soon.:(

Mickeyfan, they switched my medicine to Vicodin and I do feel a little better. I'm sorry you're having to go through this as well.

I like Vicodin, but it does nothing for the KS pain. I also have no luck with Morphine, I try to tell them at the hosp it doesn't work, they say well of course it does, the Dr insisted that I get it in the IV, guess what, the initial hot flash and NOTHING!!! Torendal toredol, whatever it the only thing that works! Sorry you are going through it, too. Hope that you never have any more.

There sure are lots of DIS members who have or have had a kidney stone.

I've never had a kidney stone, but I understand that they are quite painful. I hope you feel better really soon!
