Hi Everyone!

I must admit, I almost never visited this part of the Disboards before. Despite being local, my wife and I just never visited Disneyland that often (although we were frequent visitors of Downtown Disney), but are huge WDW fans. Well, since we had a WDW vacation planned in September, and we needed a Disney fix, we decided to visit DL again just to whet our appetites this weekend. We figured there would be value in getting a Premier Passport this year, so on Saturday we drove in and visited.

Wow! I can't believe we waited this long to go revisit DL again. Just the charm, the thrill in knowing that it was the original, and just the feeling that we're a world away (when in reality we're only 15 minutes from home) made us fall in love with DL and California Adventure again. Not that we still don't love WDW (we had a blast chatting a CM in California Adventure's guest relations office about WDW. I'm terribly sorry I forgot her name, but if you're a visitor here, hi!), but we will definitely be visiting DL more regularly now on. I definitely will be visiting this part of the boards more often!

Look forward to chatting with you folks more!:woohoo:

Welcome home ;). I'm newer to DISboards but not to DLR (living 3 miles away). There's a lot to love in your backyard, and I think you'll be spending a lot of time here.

Glad to hear of your rediscovery. :goodvibes I can't imagine living so close and not going to DLR!

Welcome to this side!

Growing up I had only visited WDW and had been told many times if I liked WDW I would not like DL. I LOVE DL!

If I lived closer I would definitly be there more often! Truely some magic in DL. :wizard:

Visited DLR for the 1st time in June. You don't know how lucky you are to have this gem in your "backyard". The vacation had DH and I dreaming of a Southern California retirement. Enjoy and post more often!

I guess it's like New Yorkers who never visit the Statue of Liberty!

I can't wait to make my first Dl trip ever next year so I love hearing these great reviews.

Pretty much! You kind of get into that mentality of, "oh, it's just over there, I can go whenever I want"...and then you realize you haven't gone in over a year!

Good analogy! I live about 40 minutes from the Statue of Liberty, drive by it often going into Manhattan. Never been there, or to Ellis Island, and not my kids either. I feel bad about that! Maybe in the Fall......

So I GUESS I get not going to DL, living close by. Maybe.

I just don't understand?

Jack

I'm with you, Jack.

I lived in San Jose and every weekend was spent in Santa Cruz or in San Francisco or Wine Country, or Monterey.

I live in Seattle area now and love visiting the Space Needle and Pike Place Market, driving to Mt. Rainier or the San Juan Islands.

I'm glad the OP gave Disneyland another chance, but really am perplexed on why it took you so long? :confused3

I too Re-Discovered DLR because of the WDW trip I was planning for my family. We were going during the busy week of Spring Break, so I decided to get AP’s for the family so we could experience all the rides that both parks have in common. This way, we could concentrate on what WDW has that we cannot get at DLR. What an eye opener! I never even knew we had Crush and now he is one of our favorites!

I think what really put me over the edge was hanging out on all the GREAT forums such as this one. Now my husband and friends think I’m obsessed - my girls and I have gone probably 20 times since the beginning of the year. :) We live about 90 miles away, so not as close as some of you. But, it’s all a matter of attitude – right? We may live 90 miles away – but that’s a whole lot closer than most of the country! So, I’ve found a route I like, and listen to a book on my IPOD, and the driving time is not a problem.

There is another BIG reason why DL has changed for us. Before finding all these forums, we would get to the parks close to lunch time. We only went on school holidays or weekends (crowded), and we had no idea how to use Fast Passes. The days seemed hot, short (we only got a few rides in), and filled with long lines. Driving 2 hours round trip, paying $$$ and having a day like that was not something we wanted to repeat often. But, all of that has changed… Now, we are belly to the rope and maximize fast passes. I will also take my girls out of school from time to time to hit the better days.

I guess what I’m saying is that we are seeing DL through new eyes – your eyes – and I really like the view. :goodvibes

Welcome to our little corner of the DIS. :flower:

I think we have a great group here, and everyone has so many good points to think about. I'm always learning. Thanks for sharing your rediscovering the love for the Land. It truly is a remarkable place. :)

Well, in my defense, I also recently spent a year and a half in Dallas that I'd rather not talk about :lmao:

ITA! I visited DL when I first moved to SoCal about 7 years ago. It was fun, but not long after that I visited my then-girlfriend (now-wife :)) in Orlando and visited WDW. It was a quick one-day to Epcot, but I fell in love with the magic, and soon started planning a big group trip not long after. That's when I found the disboards and all the resources here, so I made sure to plan the trip the "right" way. We had a blast, so much so that we've been back to WDW 5 times in the past 4 years, and got married there!

Now I consider myself a DIS vet, so when we went back to DL this past weekend, I felt like I was seeing it with new eyes.

Thanks Mary Jo! I look forward to hanging around here more often.
