high school needs recess more than elementary school.

i am sixteen years old, a junior in highschool, and im taking seriously advanced classes and have a rough schedule.

i just spent four hours at a play ground with my best friends. and every part of my body hurts from accidentally falling or running into something/someone.

but

i feel so much better. i need to do this like every other day.

i want a playground at school and like thirty minutes a day.

that would be amazing.

but.
ill trade recess for naptime.

::yes:: A recess in high school would have been great. It would have saved me from a lot of stress. As would have a naptime.

Naptime > Recess

I used to walk around the playground at recess. I never really played games like the other kids. I'd walk and talk instead.

i sit in desks for 9 periods a day (thats one more than most people cause i take a college class)
i dont get to move except to walk to and from class.
i have all this pent up physical energy, but im mentally and emotionally exhausted, so playing on a playground is really helpful for me.

::yes:: Recess would really clear my mind and help me focus. I had lunch 6th period and my class right after that, I was really alert, just from a small break in the monotonous day of sitting.

lunch is the most glorious twenty four minutes that happens between five thirty am and three thirty pm.

I was one of those kids who hid around the school trying to keep from going o utside. I'd go to the library, camp out in the tech teachers room, or hide in the bathrooms.
And besides, by 8th grade, playing was out of the question.
And I think it should have been illegal to send us out in -22 degree weather.

Anyways.
I need naptime.

I'm not sure about your school, but gym is a mandatory class everyday every year at my high school (two exceptions...1 semester sophomore year to take health and junior and senior year you can opt out duing your varsity sport season).
So IMO why have recess when you have gym?:confused3

We're only required to have gym in Freshman year.
After sophomore year, you only take it if you wanna be a gym teacher.
Besides, if you get stuck with the winter term, you're not outside. You're stuck inside..
Besides, I don't think Shelby's idea of fun is like wrestling and weight lifting. Gym gets weird after grade 9.

only one semester of gym can be taken at my school. so thats seven semesters without it.

and id like my recess on a playground rather than running suicides on the basketball court. but thats just me.

I would like a recess but I would use it for talking to my friends and flirting with the guys more then running around playing on the swings or something.

Wow. I would honestly hate to go to your school. Only one semester of gym... I'd die! My whole life I've had gym everyday. I go to a public school in Illinois and I think it's like a state law here (but I dunno...)

You must have a wierd gym class then if your idea of gym is running suicides on the court. The way it's structured at my school is freshman year you have "freshman pe" where you do 3 weeks of one sport then move on to another sport and so on for the rest of the year. Starting sophomore year, you get to choose your pe class for the two semesters. A few of our options are aquatics, competivite, non competitve (both are upperclassman versions of 'freshman pe'), self defence/step, and personal fitness. Most of them (cept competitive) are basically chill with your friends while doing some sort of physical activity. Last year I took non competitve and was in health the other semester. Softball unit I talked to my friends, batmittion I talked to my friends and you get the point. Personally, I love gym class. At lunch we are rushing to eat and do homework in 25 minutes where in gym you have 50 minutes to relax while getting a little bit of exercise too...

Oh and trust me, flirting with guys happens daily. Why else would I sign up for competive gym knowing its only hot jock guys with a few girls? ;)

basically all gym was was running suicides for a semester.

 I'm soooo sorry about that. I feel your pain. Basketball, nearly every practice, had to do min of 5 under 45 seconds...
I hate my school's fieldhouse (where we practiced at).

I never liked recess in elementary school.

I didnt have anything to do and i ended up reading in the shade.

I wish i had recess now, to go outside and take a 15 minute nap on the grass.

My gym was basically the first full week was exhausting and sweaty. They were testing us. And then the full last week was the same thing.
We only did four sports. Bordenball, basketball, badminton and ball hockey.
It was all really annoying and boring.
I'm pretty sure in grade 10 they do weight training and wrestling. And they do a lot more testing.

Our teachers say Study Hall is like our recess....Uh....:confused3

No one understand what she is talking about, because we cant say a word in Study Hall. Sometimes, teachers are sooooooo out of it.

Eh. I didn't ever do anything at recess.
I just swung and talked.
But I wouldn't be against it, if anything I could just read or talk.
I have 4 classes a day, and we only walk to classes and sometimes for some of the activities we do. I finished my last year of gym just this past year.
Lunch is so short.

I wouldn't like naptime, I can't take naps unless I'm really tired.
But recess would be alright with me.

I'd kill for naptime!

My school is... weird, to put it in one word. We have block schedules. 4 periods a day that last about 85 minutes each. We get an 50 minutes of lunch to run around / chill = basically do homework. I wake up at 5 and hit my head on my pillow at 10:30 PM if I'm lucky. The academics alone can keep you up all night if you procrastinate like the way the best of us do. The teachers are understanding of the need to run around, though.

I take advantage of do now's as my cue to run around the classroom while I still can.
