I was dinged by southwest!! I got 5 r.t. tickets from Indianapolis to Tampa airport for $457.00!! I usually fly into Orlando, but this was an awesome deal. Now, since this was a spur of the moment purchase-where do we stay?! We are staying May 13-18. Any tips on hotel deals would be so appreciated. :cool1:  :cheer2:

how does that work?? Do you already have to have reservations made and then they notify you if the prices go down??

What is "dinged"?

It's SWA new thing, you go to their website and download "DING" and about 2 times a day they announce new fare prices through DING. You have to book them through DING before they expire (usually only a few hour window). Don't call SWA to book the airfare, they don't know much about this new program. Or atleast they didn't last weekend ;) .

We always fly SW Indy to Tampa, my sister lives there. The best we've ever done is $525 roundtrip for 4, and I'm usually thrilled with that. Your price leaves me speechless!!

We got Dinged from Hartford. 5 roundtrips for $639 that saved us $244 from our original tickets! That's $244 closer to a second trip in December!

When you set up the ding, does it ding through e-mail or does it just pop up through your computer screen no matter what application you're in?

Well if you're willing to do some reading, this site has helped me tremendously in getting hotel deals around here!! (hints and names of hotels on both hotwire and Priceline - - thanks to someone on the Dis for posting this for me!)

Me, too! I got dinged - 2 round trip tickets from Nashville to Las Vegas for $400.80. Sound like a good deal?

Thanks to this site, I did the DING thing. We are 13 strong and needed to all be on the same flight and THE flights times we wanted. I really don't expect the prices will drop from SWs normal $79 fare, but the DING got them for us for $69, so we saved a little bit, plus have the peace of mind that they are bought, we got on the same flight and the flight times we wanted. As a matter of fact, my very first DING was this one and I haven't seen it since!!

I'm running Windows 2000 and you can't run Ding on that :sad2:

You don't really have to have it though. What markets are you watching and for when? Right now it is doing May 1st(?) to June 23nd on the DINGS. If you want I can watch for you and then cut and paste the email address for you in a PM.

We have Windows 2000 also and were able to successfully install and run 'Ding' with this fix we found on another site.

After you run the Ding install program follow these instructions:

First, go to Start-->Search-->'Search for files and folders' and type gdiplus.dll and press enter. Chances are everyone who is running Windows 2000 has this file. Once you find the file select it, then right click and copy.

Second, go to Start-->Search-->'Search for files and folders' and type Ding. You are looking for the folder Ding placed on your harddrive after you installed it. Open up this folder, right click and then 'paste' the gdiplus.dll file into the folder. Restart your PC and you should be good to go :)

If for some reason you don't have this file I have uploaded it to our webspace so it can be downloaded. Just right click the link, select save target as, then download it to your desktop. Then extract the file to the Ding folder on your harddrive.

It won't even let me install it. I download it and it tells me that it is not compatable with my operating system and then gives me an error message.

Oh well, we were planning on driving anyway.

I tried to do that last weekend, someone on the Dis was kind enough to post the DING rates, so I called and SWA said that in order to get the DING rate you must book it through the DING application. Unless that's changed since last weekend..... :confused3

Yeah, but you can cut and paste the link that comes from the application. I did it! Mine would not work so I cut and pasted it over to our other system to use it.

Well, if you want to make it work... just ignore the error message and just do the fix and then you will be all set.

Thanks for trying to help but the fix doesn't work (for me). The program never gets to the point of creating a folder so there is no place to copy the first file to.

Just booked Baltimore to Orlando for $158/pp, including taxes. Saves about $19 per ticket over the regular website pricing. Not the best airfare I've ever gotten, but certainly the best thing out there right now!
