I've Become one of *Those* moms. ~SIGH~

I didn't want to be one of those mom's either but when my son was in 8th grade and nothing had improved since the 5th grade I decided to take action. If I let things go the way the schools wanted nothing would have been done. He would still be reading at a 2nd grade level. He would be sweeping floor at a fast food joint for the rest of his life. He is a low functioning adult now. He is participating in a jewelery intership, he wants to be a master goldsmith. Yes I have pushed. I am now one of those mothers and am proud of it. DS is 21 now. He reads at a 10th grade level with the compreshension of the average adult. I pushed. I have used advocates, lawyers and others. There are programs now in place in our local school district because of my son. To some it may look like I am just a problem parent who only wants something. Yes I am happy when things go my way but other parents and children are benefiting from what we have done for our child. I will continue to push for my son and now his sister along with all the other kids in our district who are benefiting from me being a pain in the neck. Our district now brags about some of the programs that are now in place. I know where they came from. So continue to let them know how you feel. Our children need you. Change does not happen by itself or by accident. We make it happen. I know I am not the most eloquent but I hope I am making some sense.
