I wonder if those that get hit by it can apperciate its beauty.

I just hope it stops at 16 Bob. I have a feeling though that Jamaica will be making some contributions to that number.

I have always had a certain fascination with the weather. Even in its most deadly state Mother Nature is a beautiful force.

Those pictures are awesome in a beautiful and scary way.

:( :( Unfortunately, you're probably right. :( :(

Taken out of the context of being a deadly force, I do think most hurricanes and storms are very pretty as seen from satellite images.

This one is very nicely formed.

I also pray it stops at 16. I have many friends in Jamaica and have phoned them to make sure they knew I was thinking about and praying for them. My friends live mostly in the country so their houses are no more than brittle wood and thin metal. Gilbert was the last Cat 3 hurricane that hit the island with 115 mph winds in 1988. It eventually turned into a Cat 5 hurricane before smacking into the Yucatan Peninsula. It knocked a hotel down in Montego Bay and a hospital in Mandeville. 55,000 people were displaced by that storm and upwards of 30 dead, mostly from flooding. That was with 115 mph winds not 140mph!!!

It sure is spectacular looking at it from that far above earth but I just wish it would dissipate right about now.

It's very beautiful, but I'm sure all the people in Grenada that lost their homes because of it (90%) would probably disagree

Those are amazing images. Nature can have such awesome beauty while at the same time be so cruel and destructive.

I pray Ivan slows down and turns soon. My prayers are with the people of Grenada and Jamaica.

I live in the island just above the hurricane, the sky is covered with what appears to be one GIANT cloud, a little rain... not nearly as pretty as that image. All I can say is thank God it spared us.

Dan. :o To me, it is NOT a Beautiful thing, especially being this is the SECOND week in a row, we have to put up with this "beautiful" phenom! It destroys Property, Lives, and Souls that it comes across.....I pray it does NOT cross our Path again.:o

The latest on hurricanealley.net has this thing coming right over my house. I've lived here 11 weeks, and this is #3. It's wearing very thin - the devestation here is unbelievable.

Pray that this thing avoid humanity and somehow heads out to sea.

Unrealistic?
