iTunes Help, PLEASE

We have three iPod Touches and my iPad. I updated the software on 2 of the 3 ipods and the ipad. When I connect the touch not updated, it works fine. When I connect the other three, they don't show up in iTunes. I have searched for online help, but not having much luck.

It doesn't show up as a driver when it is connected. However, there is a window that pops up to ask what action I want to take, same one that pops up when I put a CD in or plug in my camera.

I have tried uninstalling iTunes, shutting my computer down, rebooting, installing iTunes, shutting the computer down, restarting and then connecting my iPod. Nothing.

Can anyone help??

Are you using Windows?

The fact that the computer recognizes the connections and asks you what you want to do - but iTunes won't recognize the connection is odd.

Are you sure you have the most recent version of iTunes? It should be 10.1.0.54 (if you have windows). If you don't have version 10 that might explain why it won't recognize iOS 4.2.

I do have windows xp. I downloaded itunescfrom their website. Wouldn't it be the most up to date?

The first link seems to me to be the best shot. An XP computer may need more recent device drivers to support 4.2 (that's a wild guess). There are three links (which expand to provide screen shot photos) at the bottom of the page.

Option Number one worked. Thanks! Now I'm going to attempt to figure out my other iTunes issue. I keep getting a warning when I open iTunes. No big deal, I just can't burn CDs. Need to figure that out for DH.
