Over $300 in charges to my papal account. Over $100 to my bank account and then over $200 to my Paypal account.

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have spent over an hour on the phone with the credit card company, an hour with itunes, over an hour with Paypal, and my bank can't help me until after 9am today.

However, Paypal won't let me delete the account because charges are pending and itunes won't let me click on payment options "none" because charges are still pending.

This leaves me open to more fraudulent charges I am afraid, although Paypal has assured me that since I changed the email account info this isn't true.

What a nightmare.

I know now not to link anything to my itunes account (I had no idea they were not that secure).

When this is all over I plan to delete that Paypal account and make sure itunes is only through gift cards.

ARGH!,

They got my Disney Visa a couple of weeks ago. I had 4 charges for $105 each to iTunes. I called Chase to report it and they said security had already flagged them. They immediately removed the charges, cancelled my cards and over nighted new ones. I was surprised how easy it was to correct.

I agree, it will be gift cards only on itunes from now on.

Yes, Chase flagged them and cancelled my card.

HOWEVER, they also got my bank account info! ARGH!

Paypal won't let me remove my bank account info unil the charges have cleared, leaving me open to more charges.

itunes won't let me remove my paypal account info due to more uncleared charges.

ARGH!

Our Itunes acct was hacked over mother's day weekend, American Express caught it, not itunes. Took a zillion phone calles to apple since itunes technically has no phone support (which I think is ridiculous!!)

Moral of the story...NEVER link a credit card to Itunes EVER!!

I had $75 in Itunes gift cards and it would not let me buy songs with my gc without putting my credit card # in. How do I remove my credit card # and only use the gc's?

I feel your pain, OP. It happened to me too. Luckily I only had my CC connected to my acct. and not Paypal. The CC company is the one that flagged it. This happened many months ago and I've yet to reinstate my iTunes account. I just buy through Amazon now and use SharePod (free) to manage my iTunes. After it happened to me I found out how common the problem is. I don't really want to deal with iTunes anymore.

I want to know this too!!

My itunes account was hacked into as well. But I did not have any cc info on it just an itunes card that was used. Crazy...

Same here. My paypal account had to stay open until Itunes could reverse the charges and get my money back in their. Since I do not have a credit card attached I didn't have to wait for that.

In the meantime, please make sure both of your accounts are flagged and that you changed each to a new seperate super hard password.

Good luck, and Itunes will stop helping you if you do not report it to the police. (at least in my case I had to, and the amount was much lower than yours).

A couple years ago, a member here had their iTunes account hacked into, with their CC attached.

I removed my CC from my account that very day and have never added it back on. I just use iTunes gift cards. :)

Sorry you got burned, OP. Hope you get it fixed quickly!

Really?

Sheesh!

Right now it says in itunes that I have $26 in pending charges. My guess is that it stopped working for them, but itunes won't let me take the paypal account off the account with that pending charge.

So, we have a problem.

CC company (CHase) has taken care of their end, Paypal is taking care of it from their end, and the bank says they will fix it tomorrow when the charges clear.

However, if itunes is an issue, we have a problem.

Just took my info off. Will probably remove from other services like Itunes....I hope you get things worked out fast OP, there's nothing more frustrating than waiting for resolution....thank you for sharing your experience to help others avoid the hacking...

If you haven't done it already, change your password on iTunes account, and make sure it's a decent, secure password. iTunes accounts get hacked all too often, usually the result of poor passwords (there's actually lists of common passwords available online). DGF had this happen a few months back; Apple did end up reversing the charges, but when I dug into it deeper, sure enough, her (old) password was on one of the lists.

Yep, happen to me too. I had gift card & paypal linked to my account
I think they charged about $150. I immediately did the fraud thing through
Paypal & iTunes & it was all handled & credited back. It did take a couple
Of days but yes never again will I link anything but GC.

They purchased WorldWar games, I googled it
& saw it happens alot.

Mine purchased "street creds" for $4.99 each for his Gangstaz game! (their spelling)

The lady asked, "Maam, I just have to ask, do you think one of your kids might have purchased this?"

I started laughing and asked her to look at my past purchasing History (which is all of $20 in the last year). All of it is pretty much apps like, "ABC learn with me" type stuff or angry birds or scrabble.

She laughed too and said, "Yeah, I thought you didn't, but I had to ask."

Just go to your itunes account and click edit payment method. There is an option there for "none". You should be able to delete your existing CC from there too.
Itunes accounts can still be hacked without a CC or paypal so be careful adding a large denomination of gift cards on there.

I had that happen with itunes. They refunded my money then sent me this advisory. Purchases were made within apps that I did not even have. She said you should always do this with your iphone....

To disable the ability to purchase InApps please see the steps below:

1) From the home screen, select-- Settings> General
2) Select Restrictions
3) Enter a 4 digit passcode. Make sure you remember this passcode just incase you need to change these settings later on.
4) Set the restrictions you want by tapping individual controls on or off. By default all controls are on (not restricted). Tap an item to turn it off and restrict its use
5) Scroll down the screen to the Allowed Content Area.
6) Set In-App Purchases to OFF. If you have any trouble disabling InApp purchasing please contact the manual for your device

Thank you for posting this, I normally only use GC's, but I added a CC a few days ago for something I wanted and didn't want to have to go to the store for a GC. I will remove that CC when I get home. I usually only add it until the charges go thru, then remove it, but I haven't this time.

Same here. We read about it on the internet and immediately removed our credit card number. Now we only use gift cards and in small amounts (usually $15).

my account was hacked a while back. It only had gift cards. I had never entered any cc numbers. Anyway I was a little taken aback when itunes lady states, this is a one time thing we are doing (giving me back my credit). So now we only enter little gift cards at a time. I also changed my password to a very, very long password with letters and numbers and make sure we are completely logged out when done. We only use it every so often (probably 4 times a year). I wish I hadn't bought so many gift cards around christmas time for my son otherwise I would tell itunes where they can go.
