Trip time is almost here--tomorrow, 9 p.m.

We've got Jet Blue, really great fare, and the folks seem pretty easy to deal with. Never spent more than 30 secs. on hold!

But I haven't flown for almost 10 years--and I'm pretty anxious. My husband loves to fly and I'm here shaking in my sneakers.

Anyone have any tips to ease the nerves? I'm meditating, yogaing, drinking, hypnotizing. So I guess it's just a matter of getting on that plane.

Wish me luck!

I hate to fly, but I loved jetblue. Watching tv helps the time pass, and they have yoga for you to do in your seat. Just relax, and have a great trip!!! ;)

I was actually scared to death to fly up until a couple of years ago when I was forced to fly to San Francisco on business ALONE.
I was on the same flight number and time out of NY as the flight that was highjacked on 9/11 about 2 weeks later. Now I know what you are thinking, I should be scared to death considering such a close call. The way I look at it is that God was good to me that I wasn't flying 2 weeks later. The steps put into place AFTER that have made me feel much more secure in flying. I've been on a plane more times over the past 2 years than I had been my entire life.

Here is what I do to stay calm......

Bring a good book
Think about my upcoming trip on the way down
Think about my laundry on the way back
Talk with my kids
On Jet Blue I loved watching the monitor to see what I was flying over

Have a great trip and think about all the time you are saving by flying!

Check out the website www.fearofflyinghelp.com
I am a paranoid flyer but also a logical person, and knowing what to expect, what those sounds are, how stable planes really are, etc. really helped. The site was made by an American Airline pilot, so he knows what he's talking out.
You might also want to look for a funny flying-related book to take your mind off the fear (I recommend "Plane Crazy" by a former male flight attendant).
I keep myself busy, busy, busy reading, listening to CDs, and playing hand held games to keep my mind off the fear!

I always do two things when I fly.

1. Bring a People Magazine. The entire magazine can be read in one flight from Bos to MCO. Read every page. The short, light-hearted fare is perfect for the freaked out mind! LOL!

2. Look at the personnel on the plane. I usually find one really normal looking employee (flight attendant, pilot, etc.) and convince myself that this person is doing their job and has every intention of attending their son or daughter's soccer game (baseball or basketball - depending on the season) as soon as they get back from this flight!

Have a great trip. The flight is such a teeny, weeny part of it!

Just remember you are going on vacation, and the flight should be enjoyed just as much as, say, riding the monorail at WDW. Last year, DW and I flew to MCO on New Year's Day. Prior to that, I white-knuckled it on all takeoffs and landings. I was darned if I was going to let anyone (or any fears) get in the way of enjoying the trip. I enjoyed the flight so much, I really didn't want to get off the plane.

Enjoy!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

While you're in the air just think...you're not on the ground driving, trying to avoid wacky, dangerous drivers like me! Trust me, with people like me on the road you're safer in the air:D !

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I'm going to do my best to just think about the fun and forget everything else.
