It's that time again! Time for the fair!

Wow PrinessAriel - That's amazing! Congrats on your accomplishments!

Have fun at the fair littlemissmickey! :) Have some cheesecurds for me, I can only eat 1 bite of those things so we don't usually end up getting any.

We'll be going Wed, the 1st and again on Labor Day I think.

You guys are making me hungry.

We are planning on NOT going to the State Fair this year (Minnesota) just because it can get so spendy & we are trying to save some money.....but hearing you guys all talk...makes me second guess my decision ;)

I love the honey ice cream (it's where they have all the bees/honey items), shaved ice, key lime pie on a stick, cheese curds, corn on the cob (YUMMY), Sweet Martha's chocolate chip cookies, fresh/hot mini donuts....yummy, yummy, YUMMY!!!

I don't know how we are going to avoid not going to the fair this year. I think when we see Frank & Kim on the news broadcasting from the fair, we will get the itch to go ;) ::yes::

jacksonsmom - I completely understand, the fair can get so expensive! Admission alone is $9

I'm not sure if I could stay away either though, especially with all the tv and radio broadcasts from there.

Think of the weight you won't gain though ;)

DH and I are heading there on Friday. We usually start the day with Scottish Eggs (down by the animal barns) and work our way across the grounds (hitting the grandstand before the day gets too hot) and ending up around the educational/crafts/agri buildings.

We just love the fresh cream puffs (vanilla for DH and chocolate for me!) Otherwise, we just buy one of something and share...that way we can sample more without getting full!

We pace ourselves fairly slowly, since we literally stay all day. We really enjoy the free concerts throughout the fairgrounds, too.

I'm so excited that it's finally here :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc ...though I'm sad that it does mean the end of summer. :(

Another Andover resident!! How exciting. I live in Andover too.

We were heading to the fair today, but the weather isn't going to cooperate, so the kids and I will go on Monday. (Tomorrow we're going to a llama farm) I can just taste the sweet Martha's cookies.

Monarchsfan16, do you go to Deerfield Fair the end of September? We always went there when I was a kid. That was our favorite.

New at the fair this year - All You Can Drink Chocolate Milk!

As well as deep fried corn on the cob, gotta say that does not even sound good!

Good luck bringing the kids :)

I somehow missed the start of this thread! All you can drink Chocolate milk, Yummy!!!!!!!!!

I am dying for a Pronto Pup right now. I don't even know when I'll get there yet, but I must go.

Have you seen the commerical that talks about the tradition of going once with the kids, and leaving them at Grandma's the second time? I love that, cuz it's exactly what we do! Of course it's getting to be so spendy I'd rather just leave them behind, but if I have to take them I will.

I hear cheese curds beckoning for me too LOL. Last year I tried the deep fried twinkie on a stick, and it was actually really good!!!

Hey fellow locals, do any of you know if Porky's is back this year, or if they are still fueding with the fair??

I think my daughter is going today. We'd never taken her to the Illinois State Fair. She's going with friends who have been before so I'm sure they'll show her the way but I'll suggest some of the ideas on this thread!

I guess it's easy for her to get to...she just jumps on the campus connector and the fairgrounds are right by the St. Paul campus...is that right?

Well, under pork chops on the state fair website, Porky's isn't listed! :(

Karen - If she's going with people who've been, they will show her the ropes. We take our fair very seriously ;) Yes, she should be able to jump right on a bus from campus. There are a lot of buses that go to the fair as well as free park and rides.

here's the website www.mnstatefair.org - fairborne's food finder shows all the foods that are available at the fair and where to find them.

How about some corn chowda in a bread bowl, or some freshly made kettle corn, candy apples, hot apple pie a la mode of course oh I could go on and on

yum, chowder in a bread bowl sounds great! Soup or chowder aren't big sellers at the fair for us, it's usually way too hot. They do have soup in a bread bowl at the Rennaisance festival, good stuff!
