It is coming down decently right now. It's not sticking to the roads but it's on the cars and grass. We had a enough to have a mini snowball fight. My 6 yr old had the best time. It's nothing compared to what you guys get up north but living close to the Gulf we only get it every few years.

Someone else just posted the same thing. I posted on that thread that it was 65 degrees today in NJ. :scared1: What is going on with this weather? :confused3 :rotfl:

I saw some pictures on another message board, and it reminded me of rare snowfall in Alabama, where I spent my formative years. Now, I am in Utah and snow is as common as a cold. I hope you all have a blast and make some hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls or other comfort food (My favorite cold weather combination). Put on your most comfortable clothes and simply enjoy it.

In Katy, it snowed off and on all day, but none of it stuck to the ground. My mom is in Mount Belvieu and she said she had three inches on the ground. I wish my boys would have been at Nana's yesterday.

DS and I were out dancing in it -- it was so beautiful!! I know that people who get months of this stuff are rolling their eyes, and I don't blame them... but this is like some sort of miracle down here! I'm only 25 miles from the coast, for pete's sake!

We're calling it our "Disney going-away gift", because we're heading to the airport and to WDW in about 3 minutes.

What about DFW?

We are going to be 60 on Sunday here in MO, then drop to 11 with 2 days of freezing rain....

Can't wait.:scared:

So when you southern folk do get snow on the ground how do you deal with it?

Does everyone forget how to drive (as happens up here on the 1st snowfall of the season)

Is school closed?

Do you vacuum or sweep it away?
I know Disney vacuums it up :goodvibes :rotfl:

It's snowing in Baton Rouge as well! Probably 2" on the ground already with more to come.

Driving...what a joke. Very few know how to handle the iciness (is that a word?), and we have tons of bridges & elevated structures, so if the wrecks don't shut the roads down, the iced bridges & overpasses will. We don't have much "snow control" in the Public Works budgets, so not sure how much de-icing work will happen.

My middle child reminds me that is snowed in Houston in 2004. It was nice but did not stick to anything where I was at.

I'm in central MS, and I'm watching it come down outside my classroom right now (my kids are in their silent reading time, and all they want to do is stare out the window!). We got a few flurries last year, and before that it had been 7 yrs since snow. It is coming down in huge flakes right now.

I'm giving up-my kids are all at the windows. And some classes are outside. After reading time I'll take mine out. BTW, I teach high school, not elementary:rotfl: I'm 36, and I've never seen flakes this big.

We'll probably get sent home early. Remember, we don't have snow tires or snow plows-we aren't prepared to drive in this stuff.

Back to my class-I won't be able to settle them down today.

If there is no deicing for bridges and overpasses I would not be out on them.:scared:
We have nothing to speak of. This happens about once a decade here, and we've never had this much snow that I can recall in the last 36 years.

This is major for us :)

We had school today but I let my dd stay home. We played in the snow this morning and took pictures. Now I'm at work. :confused3 I had friends calling me all night saying to go outside and see.

Big Flakes - oohh - those are the good ones, not for skiing, but for snowmen and snowballs LOL.

It's a fun historic event (for a change) - they'll be telling their grandkids - I remember when... I think you're doing the right thing - let 'em enjoy in it. :santa:

Another South Louisiana Snow bunny reporting in...

We had snow starting around 2am- today. Although we didn't get to see it coming down much I woke the kids at 5am and they built mini-snowmen and a snow dog... Our cars were covered and there was some on the ground still present.

I know other areas got far more than we did.

Our schools stayed open but other areas around us are closed. My kids were dissappointed.

They do have some local highways closed- like pp mentioned Louisiana has many elevated roads and bridges- and although they will do minimal to try to deice those areas- it isn't wide spread and will be done in the more critical areas first. No one here has experience with ice unless they moved from the north- we can handle driving in 2-3 inches of water but it needs to be in liquid form.

Generally when we've had any true snow accumulation (even of less than an inch) everything non-essential is closed- (schools/businesses/etc). When I was nine (we are going back 31 years now)- we had about 3 inches or so of snow- and I call my then best friend who had just moved to our city from Maine- to celebrate the snow day. Her mom answered the phone and laughed that the girls were on the way walking to school- I laughed back and told her school was closed- I can't believe you made your girls walk to school in the snow- and I recall teasing her about if she let them wear shoes or not. My mom had to get on the phone to convince her that school was infact closed. My friend and her sisterhad made it to school where the nuns promptly brought them inside and made them hot chocolate and were trying to reach her mom... lol

Quite a bit of excitement for us. It will be the 50s this afternoon. So nothing will remain by the time the kids come home. I do believe other than the 2004 Christmas Eve snow flurries- we don't usually get snow in December at all...

Yowsa! Great pic. Get out there an make a snowman.:lmao:

The kids have been making snow angels and having snowball fights. We don't have any snow clothes so they play then come in to change clothes and warm up. I haven't even bought my kids coats because they went unworn the last few years. The most either of them have are fleece pullovers. They've been working on the snowman.
