I planned a spontaneous trip to WDW, we leave in 16 days. Last night I was playing around on AAA.com and found a AAA rate at the Wilderness Lodge. It's a good rate, will cost us $300 more for the trip.

Here's my dilemma- - Do I stick with POR because I know it and love it and it's cheaper? Or do I upgrade to WL, take a chance, more spontaneity and spend more money?

Do we have the extra cash? No. But we aren't planning another trip for 3 or 4 years.

Right now I have 2 reservations. I have to cancel one of them but I can't decide. DH is no help. He just keeps saying GO FOR IT! He doesn't pay the bills?!

I should really stop using the internet, it only makes things more complicated..............;):earseek: :earsgirl:

I would switch up. Especially if you won't go for 3-4 more days. It will be a whole new experience and totally add to your vacation.

I would stay where I am and then use the $300 extra for some nice meals. Like Palios or Yachtsman Steakhouse etc..
If you already have nice meals included in your stay now then I'm sure you can find something special to do for $300 while your there. Something you wouldn't have done otherwise, that could be fun too!

Either way, Enjoy!

My advice is to save the money and stay at POR. Although the Wilderness Lodge is nice, I don't think that it's worth the extra money.

On a completely different subject, how long are you staying at WDW? I won't get there until December 3rd and was wondering if you'll still be there or if we'll pass in the airport.

I say stay at POR and give me the extra $300 so I can tag along! ;) :teeth:

I like dizneenut's suggestion but you should take me with you!;) Just think built in babysitter!:teeth:

You know I think I'd be torn myself. $300 could be used for some great extras. So in short I don't know, but I was curious too, how long you'll be there because I'll be there not too long after you get there as well.

I love how Sherry thinks though :p

If Christmas wasn't right around the corner, I would tell you to go for it, but with having a family & the holidays fast approaching...just keep things the way they are! I think you'll be happier in the long run. If by chance, you get to save a bit more money, then you can take another trip before 3 or 4 years, right??!

I love Dizneenut's suggestion!! :teeth:

Good luck on your decision & have a great time on your trip! We'll be there on Dec 19th!! :bounce:

Keep things as they are. You can do other fun things with the $300 that you'll be saving!

Rose~ What? The 19th? :hyper: :hyper: We'll be arriving the same day!!!!::yes:: I'll pm you later. :teeth: :teeth:

I say GO FOR IT. Especially with the holidays approaching!

Sometimes, we just gotta do something nice for ourselves.

Merry Early Christmas!!

Besides, if you've never stayed at WL, you're in for a major treat.

You can tell DH it's HIS Christmas present, then you're off the hook on shopping for him, too...LOL

Well, you could always split the trip between the two, so you can have a taste of the WL. That way you can save some money and go to the WL. Plus Disney will move all your suitcases to your new room.

With DW being a WL lover, she'd spend the extra money and skimp somewhere else.

That is a hard one. I love the WL and it looks awesome with the Christmas stuff up. However an extra $300 could come in really handy. Maybe stay at POR use $150 of that money for a couple of extra goodies, like an extra character meal or something you might not have had planned and then keep the other $150 to spend on Christmas--maybe the kids will see something they love thats only found at WDW --and get it for them for Christmas.
Have an awesome trip!

I'd stick with POR. You said you didn't have the extra $$ and $300 will buy a lot of meals at Disney.

herc.

Sherry-If you'd get on a plane, you could come!!!!!:earseek: :hyper:

Pebblzz-I considered your idea. DH's birthday is 10 days before Xmas. It could be his combined gift, to stay at WL! :)

jfulcer-I considered splitting the stay but with 2 kids I'm afraid it would be a pain, since I'd have to do all the packing.

We're in the world from the 28-4th.

After reading this thread, I'm thinking we should just stay at POR.......but then I read my thread on the Resort board and think we should try WL.

UH-oh, just checked the Resort board thread, 2 votes for POR. I think I'm going to be saving money. The miser in me often wins! :)

::MinnieMo Good thing I have at least 9 days to decide.

Stay at WL.

We stayed at WL in Sept. It is a beautiful resort. We could have upgraded to concierge for $35/night. I'm really sorry that I didn't. I though "well, I'll use the money elsewhere."

I probably won't get the chance to stay concierge again. I think I missed my "window".

This may be your "window" to stay at WL. Don't just think now, think of how you'll feel after you get back.

You don't have really have the extra money to stay at WL, so stay with POR. If you somehow do come up with an extra $300 than think of all the things you could do with it. Besides how much time do you really spend in your room.

Enjoy your trip. :D

My opinion..... If you plan on spending quite a bit of time at the resort of choice, go with WL....it is a beautiful resort. If not, stay with POR.

That's my 2 cents.

The WL never appealed to me because of the transportation. However we stay at a new resort every trip and it kinds of adds to the excitement. For us $300 wouldn't make that much of a difference, I don't know how much it will affect your family budget. Could you do as others suggest and cut back on gifts to each other? I'm a cheapskate myself, I usually justify spending more on vacations because I bargain shop all year long and it's my time to treat the family. Have fun whatever you decide. Oh and I wouldn't split my stay, that seems like such a hassle, the packing, unpacking and having to check in twice.

If it were us, we'd stay at POR. We spend as little time as possible at any resort so I wouldn't be able to justify the extra $300, even if we had it to spend, but that's just me.
