It's official: I'm a food snob

I've found that on this board, for the most part, people will suspend disbelief and buy into the Disney magic hook, line, and sinker. Especially when it comes to food. The fact of the matter is, for me at least, the Signature restaurants are pretty good and the rest are just average or worse.

I totally agree. Which is why, for our honeymoon, we are eating at quite a few off site restaurants.
I have been doing my research.
ANd yes , we are "food snobs".

I totally agree too. There was a time when we ate exclusively at WDW on our trips. Now we are down to a couple of meals TS and a character breakfast, that is it. We have found that we prefer to eat offsite more often, better food at a better value.

The reason the prices are high have nothing to with the food quality but the venue. When you go to a baseball game and get that overpriced hot dog and beer it's not because you are expecting fine dining but rather you get to eat it while enjoying the game.

You are paying for the Disney atmosphere as well as the food.

I'm sorry, but I don't buy into the "captive audience" as a reason for paying too much for mediocre food. I do see a parallel between the DDP and the quality decline. There was a time I would go to Yachtsman Steakhouse without any issues. In December, I was seriously disappointed by the $40 filet. It was not the level of quality I expected based on past experiences.

I do understand paying higher prices for the counter service food based on vacation destination prices. I'm just miffed at the general decline in table service when things used to be so much better!

There are still a few places which cater to those looking for a high quality meal: Citricos, Victoria and Albert's, California Grill, the old Spoodles, Sanaa, etc.

Disney is catering to the masses and they do a decent job of it while filling almost all of their restaurants to capacity.

You did list a few exceptions to the food. These are places I return to time and again because I feel the signature restaurants are the best choices nowadays for decent food (Yachtsman notwithstanding). There are only one or two places that take the DDP I like. It used to be that I liked a lot more pre-dining plan.
