It's official - FP+ is a big negative change for us

Magic bands are working flawlessly. No complaints there. I like them okay, except I find it a bit uncomfortable to wear all day because the back plastic is so hard.

FP is the issue. It's far too structured. The planned stuff was just not advantageous on the day of. Things we FP'd didn't need it, and things we expected to be good SB choices ended up needing FPs. Timeslots that worked for us were already out by the time our FPs came up and we discovered we didn't need them. So, that was pretty awful.

We felt rushed goi from attraction to attraction, not sure if we'd make our window or not. With only 5 days in the park, we kinda had a time crunch to get to everything we wanted to do. ADRs for the places we ate were difficult to come by even at the 180 day mark, so some days, we had ADRs in places where that park was very busy or it wasn't a recommended day. Many times, we started in a different park. Even RD'ing every park every day left precious little time to get to everything.

With the old system, you were essentially planning in two hour chunks of time, which was much more flexible and manageable. Not so with the new system. We brought two friends with us who are disney novices and even they were shocked at how much planning was necessary and how inflexible the system was.

I guess if we had a longer stay, it wouldn't be as bad, because we wouldn't feel so rushed to do everything we wanted to in each park in a single day (note: that's not doing every single attraction; merely the ones we wanted to do).

Our last day is tomorrow, and we have late FPs at Epcot, but because of how nutty the crowds have been (both Touringplans and EasyWDW were wrong about the crowds at the parks this week), I'm not sure we are going to keep them. But availability at the other parks is very limited by now, which is yet another downfall of the system.

Just really disappointed in it. It's as bad as I thought it would be from a flexibility standpoint. But the actual mechanics of it worked great. I wouldn't mind the new bands if they went back to the old FP type system of pulling every two hours. Or heck, keep two advanced ones, get rid of Tiering and then let people pull whatever is available every 3 hours.

I'll not provide a list of our activities unless asked. But we don't have kids, so we didn't do characters or many of the more kid-centric attractions (laugh floor, crush, dumbo, etc. were all skipped).

The nice aspect is you can change your FP+ from the MDE app on the fly, so if you see you do not need a fp for a particular attraction you can chg to one you wanted

according to the OP: "Timeslots that worked for us were already out by the time our FPs came up and we discovered we didn't need them. So, that was pretty awful."

Have to agree. Our passes run out in April and we will take some time off. No sense in renewing at this time if we don't get to ride what we want without waiting in long lines. :(

This is my biggest concern. We used FP a lot the one other time we have been with the kids. We didn't plan much in advance; we pulled fast passes when we are came across attractions where it would be much shorter to FP, pulled one, and came back, repeat for other attractions. I wish they would have done something like let guests schedule one attraction per day and then just keep the basics of the legacy FP in place, but make it digital.

Wouldn't it be nice to FP the day as you go and be able to select FP at an attraction and just hold your MB up and put it on there? I'd much prefer that than having a greater number of scheduled FPs. You're able to gauge the need for a fast pass much better in real time.

Sigh.

Sorry, but you aren't one of the 3, 6, 9 or 12 (depending on which Disney apologist is talking) people here that complain about FP+ so your comments don't count.

Seriously though, sorry you had a less than magical experience with them, I imagine our situation is going to be very much the same, its already looking like a nightmare just pre-picking our FPs with a group of 10-12 (depending on the day).

Earlier this week we were able to change our fastpasses on the fly. Toy story and tower of terror were both available throughout the day, as was space mountain and everest. We changed ours day of, after park opening, but still in the am.

OP, I'm curious. What did you get FP+ for that didn't need it and what attractions had you planned for SB that you really wished you had FPs for?

I think this is now Disney's plan. You have to stay a week in order to do everything therefore, you cannot skip over to Universal and spend a couple of days ... forget Sea World ....

As touring adults, we also resent that we cannot ride our favorite rides multiple times the way we could pull fastpasses for them throughout the day.

The issue isn't so much changing it (although things definitely ran out on us) as it is changing it to a convenient time and one that the app will allow, which means it better not be around an ADR or you're SOL.

Didn't need:
ToT
Star Tours
Dinosaur
Primeval Whirl

Wished I had:
PotC (yeeeah, whaaaaat??? Since when is this needed here?)
RnRC
Buzz

I'm hoping that Buzz and PotC are aberrations, but I fear they aren't. Since when does Buzz have such long lines? Ridiculous.
