It's Magical! A 10yr Anniv Dining Report with Extras! Updated 9/4!!!

Sorry your meal at Yachtsman was no good. I am glad you were able to get a resolution with Disney though. Our last few meals there have been outstanding but it seems that night as late as you went they were off plus to get bad service doesn't help.

I do find that Disney does try to make things right when they are notified.

Sadly YSH seems to be getting awful reviews these days
Our meal in December was not good and DH still talks about how salty his potatoes were
I don't think we will be returning any time soon
Hope your next meal is more enjoyable :thumbsup2

yeah ... Yachtsman is one that I probably will never set foot in again. Sad because there is so much potential. The service and quality of food has been lacking though.

That is too bad about the YM, we have always had great food, but not always great service. We didn't go our last trip and won't be back for our future trip either.

YSH was definitely a big disappointment. Such a shame for this being a Signature restaurant. We didn't seem to have any issues the first few times we ate here but ever since we've been dining with others it has gone downhill. :lmao:

Between the pre-dinner soaking and the meal it wasn't a great night! But at least we had good company. :goodvibes

We loved YSH in 2012, but it seems to have gone downhill from what I've read. That's disappointing since we stay at BWV on every trip and it's right there. It was so relaxing to just walk over there and enjoy a wonderful dinner. On our trip in July we are not going there anyway, but we did want to return in the future. Our signatures for this trio are Flying Fish, Jiko and Hollywood Brown Derby. And one night, DH and I are going to victoria & Albert's and the boys will be in the kids' camp at the BC resort.

hi looking forward to reading about your trip. sorry to hear about your bag being damaged i hope it did not ruin your trip.

Sorry to read about your Yachtsman meal again. Barb's and Brenda's reviews already touched upon the overcooked meat and poor sides, but it's sad how every meat course (except maybe Michael's, so 4 out of 5) had a major issue. At those prices, that's embarrassing.

Yes, that is how I feel too. I can accept one or two being slightly over/under cooked but 4 out of 5 is BAD. And then the cut of meat for mine was just wrong as well. Oh well.. Live and Learn... I will say that I LOVED the food in December but our service was just SO SLOW.

Been following along on your travel companions reports and just found yours. You guys are truly a couple after my own heart. Drink, eat, drink, eat, and repeat. And sharing food is our preference too. Love to nibble and share and of course drink and try as much as possible. Can't wait to see what else you have in store.

Welcome! Eat, Drink , repeat is the best way to do Disney! We really like sharing meals so we can try more!

I'm caught up again, Paula.

It's funny...we were at Tusker House earlier this month and woill.n't be going back. The service was terrible and there just didn't seem to be as much of a selection in the past. We did see the characters more than once.

Sorry you weren't hungry for a full lunch at Yak & Yeti; but I'm with Hunter...must have those pot stickers. I remember the picture of Brenda on the phone being posted on FB and laughing at the boys teasing her.

I am so disappointed and sorry about your meal at Yachtsman. We've eaten there three times within the last year and had outstanding meals and service each time. I am hoping it was an off night. But they should have definitely done more than just taking the brussell sprouts off the bill.

I didn't find the food selections at TH lacking but I think the openness of the rooms really makes it seem so loud in there... especially with crying, screaming kids.

I really hope Yachtsman was just an off night. Unfortunately it was too OFF for us so we won't be returning... Now if only I could find those rolls somewhere else!

I need to go find your TR! I haven't had much time lately!

I sure hope Yachtsman refunded you your money for your awful meal. You know it is bad when you thought about it for the entire trip! We tried it for the first time in March and I didn't care for it either. It wasn't anything special and we also had poor service!

They refunded a portion of it after I sent the e-mail. Enough to satisfy me and not turn me off Disney completely! Poor service seems to be the norm there. If the food had been good though I would have accepted it but both being bad I just couldn't not do anything.

Yes, I think they do!! We'll be there Sept. 29 - Oct. 13. :yay:
We are there Sept 30-Oct 17 (friends will be staying with us from Oct 4-Oct13)

Just finished reading your Yachtsman review and it's truly inexcusable that the majority of the entrees served weren't cooked properly or were poor cuts of beef. A restaurant that advertises itself as a steakhouse had better know how to cook a steak to a diner's preference. In her review, Brenda posted a picture of the shoe leather that was served to her and I commented how shocked I was that any restaurant, never mind a Signature, would allow a plate that looked like that one did to leave the kitchen. Really appalling.

At least you had great company so the evening wasn't a total write-off! :goodvibes

Yes, the company was again fabulous and that made the time we sat there waiting go by quickly... But when you look at the clock and realize how long you've been waiting for service its not a good thing! Brenda's meat was definitely shoe leather! I think I sat there just staring at it in amazement that they would bring that out!

Wow I just can't believe they served such crazy pieces of meat, over cooked and salty sides yikes! I've seen better steaks at sizzler ...

Ha-Ha... I think I have too!

Great review!! One question, how did you note your celebration? We will be there in Dec for our 20th anniversary. We also went to WDW for our honeymoon so special place for us.

For some of them if I had to modify it or anything I noted it when I talked to a CM over the phone. Most of them they just noticed our buttons. If you don't mind making the phone call that is the best way though.

Ugh, what an all around awful meal! I hated to read that it made you doubt returning in the Fall! So glad you decided to go! And glad to hear that you are satisfied with Disney's resolution for you.

Jay asked about going to YSH and I showed him Brenda's awful looking piece of meat. When I show him yours, there will be no doubt in his mind that I am right in not going!

Yes, sadly it was so bad (combined with the small portions at Jiko, poor service at Boatwrights, this meal and one more coming up) that we really were considering not going. Thankfully there were some more good experiences at the end that swayed us back to going.

Ahhh Yachtsman...what more can I say? :sad2: I do want to thank Paula though. Because she took the time to pursue this further, I recently received a $30 credit on my credit card. Though this did not heal the wounds that we all sustained that night, it did help take the sting out of being "burned". ;) However, this situation really should have been rectified by our server/management that evening. Is it too much to ask that your server return to your table shortly after the food has been delivered to make sure that all is well? I think not. :(

I'm glad that I was able to get that credit for you Barb. Yes, sadly service was a big issue along with the poor food.

Enjoyed your recent food reviews, but sorry about the bad experience at Yachtsman. I remember reading about this disappointing meal on Brenda's TR. I'm glad you wrote them and were able to get some type of resolution. Everything should be perfect, or near perfect, at a place like that.

Disney wants people to be happy.. Especially when you spend like we have in the past year :rotfl2: But it should happen at the time and not take an email to correct things. I guess we should have been a little more clear at the meal of our dissatisfaction... Although I did think we were being clear...:confused3

I think our ADR was for 8 or 8:30 so it wasn't too terribly late. Not like 9:45-10:00pm when they are getting ready to close. In December we had Poor Service but wonderful food. This time the food simply should not have been served. And Unfortunately there will not be a next time to see if it was just a fluke!

Sadly YSH seems to be getting awful reviews these days
Our meal in December was not good and DH still talks about how salty his potatoes were
I don't think we will be returning any time soon
Hope your next meal is more enjoyable :thumbsup2

Oh! I guess I didn't know you had salty food in December... But then you were on the other end of the room! :rotfl: We won't be returning either.

yeah ... Yachtsman is one that I probably will never set foot in again. Sad because there is so much potential. The service and quality of food has been lacking though.

Yes. There is a lot of potential there!

That is too bad about the YM, we have always had great food, but not always great service. We didn't go our last trip and won't be back for our future trip either.

If the food is good I am a little more accepting. Both being poor and I am very sad!

:goodvibes

Yes! The company made it better!! Hopefully you have a better experience Next month!! Although.. Did you show Em my steak yet?!? :lmao:

We loved YSH in 2012, but it seems to have gone downhill from what I've read. That's disappointing since we stay at BWV on every trip and it's right there. V&A's will be awesome.. As for the others... they are all on our blacklist as well. Like I said, we have slowly crossed off most of the signature restaurants.. The high prices with the unequal food and service just haven't made us want to return.

hi looking forward to reading about your trip. sorry to hear about your bag being damaged i hope it did not ruin your trip.

We didn't let the bag ruin our trip and Southwest has made good on the damage.

The following morning we slept in a little again and then headed to the Magic Kingdom.

We traveled by boat. Our Favorite way to get anywhere!
ry%3D400

Arrived on Main Street
ry%3D400

And got some Caffeine!!
ry%3D400

We decided to take the train to Frontierland
ry%3D400

ry%3D400

Where we found Brenda and Michael!
ry%3D400

We then used a FP+ for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Still having a little time before our lunch ADR we headed to the Haunted Mansion
ry%3D400

We got lucky though in that they basically pulled us in with the FP+ people and we got to skip the queue!

Hidden Mickey!
ry%3D400

ry%3D400

My favorite Part of the ride!!

This is a BAD picture but I think it is funny!! It looks like Hunter just bopped the ghost on the head!
ry%3D400

When we got off the ride it was time for our lunch ADR where Barb was already waiting for us.

Lunch was at..
ry%3D400

Some Ribbon to celebrate with?!?!
ry%3D400

A look at the menu
ry%3D400

ry%3D400

ry%3D400

ry%3D400

While we were looking at the menu the server told us that the chef would be out to discuss Hunters Allergy “Problem.” We thought that wording was quite odd… But it lead to everyone teasing about his “Allergy Problem” the rest of the trip. (hmmm… maybe that’s what the Boatwrights people thought!! Allergies are a “problem”)

Some Iced Tea to drink
ry%3D400

From Liberty E Tavern
In December Hunter and I had shared 2 items. The first was the Pot Roast which I LOVE but it was just too hot to have some that day! The Second was the Colony Salad which was PERFECT!
ry%3D400

I love this salad! Nice and refreshing!

Only one thing I didn’t like was the Sea of dressing on the bottom!
ry%3D400

Next time I will ask for the dressing on the side and then I won’t have that problem! And yes.. I AM hoping there is a next time!

Hunter went with the Burger
ry%3D400

He actually really enjoyed this burger and thought it was well prepared!

We decided to skip on dessert. Hunter can’t really do Ice Cream and I couldn’t eat a whole dessert myself so it was better just to save a few dollars…

However… Barb was sitting next to me and offered to share her dessert!

ry%3D400

Hunter did get a complimentary cupcake…
ry%3D400

Which we think they took out of the freezer when we arrived!

In the mean-time Barb was still taking pictures of her dessert with the candle melting away…
ry%3D400

Sorry Barb! Just had to tease you some more!! :wave2:

The couple bites of the dessert I had were fabulous and were just enough for me! I am hoping when we return in the fall that our friends will be willing to share it!

As we left I had to use the restroom so I headed up the stairs and managed to catch the rest of the group exiting…

ry%3D400

Liberty Tree was a wonderful meal. Good company and Good food. Definitely recommend this as a place to eat at the Magic Kingdom!

Up Next: A Storm is blowing us out of MK and our first CL experience!

The pot roast is my favourite entree at LTT and hubby is all about the turkey. The Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake is a must-do for me, even though I can never eat even half of it. The Colony Salad looks delicious and would be my choice if I could ever tear myself away from the pot roast, LOL.

It's great that we'll be at WDW at the same time this fall. It would be nice if we could meet and say hi in person. :goodvibes

Great update Paula, I'm looking forward to the next instalment. :thumbsup2

Disney boats are the way to go (anything to avoid the buses).

We totally missed the train earlier this month. :headache:

Nice job going with the FP people and skipping the line at Haunted Mansion.

We ate at Liberty earlier this month and we loved it. Like Hunter, I really enjoyed my burger. I have to figure out to squeeze it in for our September trip.

Your boat ride looks like a great way to start your day, and between the boat & train that's the way to travel : ) Love your salad at LTT but hunters burger looks good too. Lots of cupcakes and special desserts this trip for your anniversary, nice!!

Love LTT, we eat there almost every trip. I had the same problem with my colony salad as well, too much dressing. But still delicious! Barb is a true friend to share her Ooey gooey toffee cake with you. My own family has been near blows over who gets the last bite!

Liberty tree looks great. Trying it for the first time in September for the ooey gooey cake alone. Think I will try the salad too so I feel a bit better about the cake. And thanks for the tip for dressing on the side. So hate salad when it's swimming in it,

So sorry about your few meal problems! It's such a bummer when you plan & save for special things & then they're a let down.

I don't get the smoker question with the Brussel sprouts, did it mean that chef smoked cigarettes then prepared sprouts making them taste like cigs or that the chef used a meat smoker to prepare them? I hope the latter....

Once F&W info is released and I know more of our plans I will share them.. All I know right now is where we are staying and how we are getting there! :rotfl2:

Both the Pot Roast and the Salad are wonderful! The salad just wins out when I need something lighter to eat!

We don't mind the buses MOST of the time. Really going to miss not staying at WL our fall trip. The train is Hunter's favorite MK ride so we try and use it to get around as much as we can.

Your boat ride looks like a great way to start your day, and between the boat & train that's the way to travel : ) Love your salad at LTT but hunters burger looks good too. Lots of cupcakes and special desserts this trip for your anniversary, nice!!

Love the morning boat rides! Its a great way to get to MK!

The cupcakes are a nice offer but they don't often taste all that great lol. :rolleyes1

I did let Barb get the last bite as I really only had a few spoonfuls. I've had people share the Ooey Gooey with me the last 2 trips.. Hopefully in the Fall our friends will want to share it!

Liberty tree looks great. Trying it for the first time in September for the ooey gooey cake alone. Think I will try the salad too so I feel a bit better about the cake. And thanks for the tip for dressing on the side. So hate salad when it's swimming in it,

Glad my tip can be helpful.. The hard part is remembering to order it that way when you are there! :scratchin

I don't get the smoker question with the Brussel sprouts, did it mean that chef smoked cigarettes then prepared sprouts making them taste like cigs or that the chef used a meat smoker to prepare them? I hope the latter....

Yes it is a bummer...

A person who smokes ruins their tastebuds and sense of smell. So therefore a person who smokes will often add extra salt to the food because they cannot taste that it already has enough.

Paula - the salad looks delish:thumbsup2

It was!! :thumbsup2

Leaving LTT we had a FP+ to use for my FAVORITE Ride. Splash Mountain! So while Brenda is brave enough to have her camera out and take pictures as we go I prefer to keep mine safely tucked away!

Therefore you only get this picture!
ry%3D400

Upon exiting the ride they were calling overhead that it was closed due to inclement weather approaching! Sure enough there were some DARK clouds rolling in!

ry%3D400

As we walked towards the exit the wind was also blowing quite hard and all the blooms in the trees were flying around… Some even managed to get caught in Brenda’s hair.

ry%3D400

Main Street was quite crowded as it was nearing the parade time so we elected to detour through the stores.

ry%3D400

Once we got to the front we thought we were going to need to take a bus but I guess the larger boats still run so we found ourselves a seat in the back… Yes, we sat outside! It wasn’t raining yet so why not enjoy the cooler weather!

ry%3D400

ry%3D400

ry%3D400

So after running out of MK and ALL those DARK Clouds… Yeah… It didn’t rain right away!

We headed back to our room anyways to freshen up. Barb was staying club level this night and had graciously invited us up to join her for evening snacks… Well… I kinda invited us when I found out but she said she planned on asking us anyways…

I’d always wanted to try club level but I could never justify the cost! So how was our first taste of it??

ry%3D400

First some pictures of the offerings.

ry%3D400

Love that they have children’s areas up here…

The view
ry%3D400

We also enjoyed a glass (or two) of wine!

So what did I think?!? If I could afford it we would definitely stay up there! I think it was fabulous and thank Barb ever so much for bringing us up! The food selection was great for an afternoon snack! It was hard to not have more but we wanted to save room for our upcoming meal!

Next Up: Tambu Lounge and ‘Ohana!

I LOVE the ride picture on Splash Mountain...it is awesome. The boys sure were having fun. Thankfully you got your ride in before the inclement weather hit.

Another boat ride. :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

We've never stayed CL either...we think it would be a waste for us. But those offering sure look yummy. Very nice of Barb to invite you.

Once F&W info is released and I know more of our plans I will share them.. All I know right now is where we are staying and how we are getting there! :rotfl2:

LOL, I have a lot of our plans already "penciled in" but am also waiting for more F&W info. Hopefully we can make it work but if not ... well, it's just a great excuse to go back another time, no? ;)
