My house was struck by lightning on 6/28, and, while everyone inside was okay, we suffered a lot of electrical damage. Our alarm system/smoke alarm was hit, one of our two televisions were hit, and both computers were hit. Thankfully, the lightning only slowed down Mom's computer (it works, just VERY slowly), but my modem got fried. I tried to install a new one on my own, and only made the problem a hundred times worse.
So, on 7/1 I made a trip in to a computer repair store. Without going in to the gory details, they held my computer hostage for 2 weeks, and not only did they not replace the modem, but they also gave my computer a virus (or so I thought). So, I picked the computer up from them (before they had time to "finish the work" - they had 2 weeks, and they couldn't finish it?!?! But, I digress.....) and took it (literally) 2 blocks down the street. I told the new computer store what had happened, and they fixed it without problems.
After a $250 repair bill and news that there really wasn't a virus, but a hardware problem (read: an incompatable modem), I finally have my computer back! I was able to access the DIS through Mom's computer, but the connection was so slow that it took forever to do anything. I was having major DIS withdrawls!! So now I have to go through and reinstall everything (computer store #2 updated my Windows version, so I lost everything). I'm so happy to be back!!
