without a cigarette - but most of a BIG pan of brownies and half a bag of pretzels and a lot of that time I was sleeping. I WANT A CIGARETTE. I REALLY REALLY WANT A CIGARETTE. Chewing on a pen doesn't help very much.

This is a toughie, MM. I wish I had some magic cure or sage advice but the truth of it is you just have to tough it out. The patch helps alot...physically but you have to get it going mentally.

I have a friend who chews on plastic swizzle sticks. It seems to help her through the worst of it when the going gets tough.

Hugs to you. AND BEST OF LUCK! You're doing something wonderful for yourself.

And pass the brownies, please......:)

Get a supply of gum or tictacs or something to have in your mouth. Get outside and take a walk or go someplace that is non smoking. The next few days will be the hardest but if you take each day as it comes it is tolerable. Just remember, Each day will get easier. I went through this 12years ago and haven't had a butt since. I was smoking 2 packs a day when I quit. Best thing I ever did!!

:bounce: :bounce: WAY TO GO :bounce: :bounce:

Hang in there you can do it!!!

My dh and I just quit 10 days ago and it is HARD!!!
BUT you can do it!!!!! Day 10 is easier then day 1

Are you doing anything to help??
We did the hypnosist.

My best advice is to stay busy and stay away from anyone smoking!!!

Keep us posted on your progress!!!

Try gum too! It helped me at least... not even niccotine gum, just regular old stuff. I admit I played with straws and pens for a while, just flipping them around in my fingers and chewing like mad on them. Good luck... you can do this :)

Great job...keep up the good work...

Quit 11 years ago October 6th. Take it day be day hour by hour if you have to. Go for a walk, play on the computer, do something that requires you to think to try and take your mind off of having a butt! I held on to one cigarette for almost a month-lol. But I did it, sad but I still crave one every once in a while! Good luck and sending you extra pixie dust-----

Keep it up, mom!!! Great choice. You can do it, take it day by day, even part of he day, like morning, afternoon, evening. You'll do it. If it gets tough, stop by here for some encouragement. My best.

Great! Just think of that first day BEHIND you and look to the future!

18 hours now but who's counting. This is the longest I have been without a cigarette since I was 14. Thanks for the encouragement. It really helps.

I don't have any advice besides gum, because I've never smoked, but good job taking the initiative to quit. That in itself is difficult! You're making a great choice, good luck with it. :Pinkbounc

my DH quit smoking last year. it was his new year's resolution. he finished his carton and then went on the patch. he did surprisingly well!! he too had been smoking since he was 14 or so years old. he had been smoking for half his life. but he did it...and wasn't too snippy or anything. and he's been smoke free now for a year and a half. :) he still has cravings every now and then...but i'm very proud of him for not giving in to his cravings!

keep it up!!!

I feel your pain. I am on day 5. It's easier now but man when I get the urge I really really want it bad. Maybe we can comiserate together!

Your post count is at 747 (as I make this post).

Let's see if you can challenge yourself to get that post count to 800 by the end of the day. And don't forget the graphics, smilies, etc. etc.

That oughta keep the hands and the brain busy....and that's important.

And Good Luck!

Wow Kinlaw - if I can make it to Day 5!!!!! Is it any easier today than it was day 1? Thanks to you all - you are really helping. I think I'm going to Walmart to get some embroidery or something if I can drive the car without a cigarette. Isn't that pathetic?

You can do it.. I just remember stating "I'm not going to do it anymore, or buy anymore, or whatever"....

That was back in 1989...

It's tons easier already but the cigarette in the car habit was really hard. I drive alone to work and home and always smoked on those routes...

Also, my best friend and I sit out in the back yard by the pool and smoke...HE IS STILL SMOKING and THAT is extremely hard especially when he forgets and offers me one!

Keep it up guys! My dear father in law is fighting for his life with lung cancer right now following 50 years of smoking. He quit 3 weeks ago and is using the patch. We are so proud of him! If he can quit, anybody can.

3 weeks ago he suffered some minor strokes (possibly related to his cancer - they can't be sure) and was in the hospital. He was being wheeled out in a wheelchair hooked to tubes to smoke. He couldn't even hold the cigarrette - so my MIL held it for him. That was the breaking point. He recovered, left the hospital, has had no permanant damage from the strokes, and hasn't had a cigarette since.

Try the patch, it really works!! Keep up the good work all you quitters in this thread. The first couple of weeks are difficult, but you CAN DO IT!!!

Then you'll get to where I am.... I have absolutely no intention of shelling out 4 bucks for a pack!!
