Okay I finally figured it out. If you want to ensure you have current contact info and you are having difficulty doing that on line, just call the disney vacation line. Choose the third option for technical services. They can take your email address and ensure the account you choose to use has current info.
We did that the other day for my husband's account as we were having issues with MDE. Found out he had at least three different accounts. (I told him not to feel bad because a few years ago I found out I had six!) Supposedly everything is fixed but now he can't enter on his phone, his tablet, or my PC. We've done the whole log-out log-in game, and it still tells him he's tried to many times with the wrong password (the new one he set up the other day). He's frustrated. I told him it isn't worth stressing over.
