It's alright, I'm still alive! a TR -- Day 11: Aquatica-- Updated 4/27

So today was the first full day of our holiday, and it just so happened to coincide with the last day of the Star Wars weekend, so off we trotted to Hollywood Studios. I was determined to get us up and in the park for rope drop, which wasnt actually that much of a chore, we were all up and about, presumably excited about the up and coming holiday, or just wide awake and still on British time!

So we got up, got dressed and hopped into the car to find our way to this sign and WDW...

Disney2008_0629003.jpg

It's hard to explain just how happy I was to see this sign, even though I saw it yesterday, it was more exciting and far more enjoyable in the morning and indeed in the light, I got excited. Take my word for it!

We arrived at HS at about 8:30ish, which I was very very proud of, my family did me proud! Straight inside the park to be greeted by one of the things I was looking forward to most, the Stormtroopers on the roof.

Disney2008_0629004.jpg

I even found the way that they get up there, was very very funny to watch, there's just something about watching Stormtroopers getting into a lift and then riding it up to the roof that makes you burst out laughing!

Disney2008_0629006.jpg

From there we hit the mass that was forming outside the hat, the main holding area if you like, there wasn't much of a group forming at the time, most had stopped to take pictures such as this...

Disney2008_0629009.jpg

It just so happens some of us can take photos of the interesting stuff and still get in the queue at a decent place, that is a row from the front! Oooh yer! Then all of a sudden it was ready, steady, go.... mass run to TSM, of which I was part of it. I say run, I mean more powerwalk, only mass powerwalk doesnt have the same effect that run does, so for the purpose of this trip report, it was run.

Anyways... we made it to TSM, near the front of the queue... only it broke down, just as we joined the queue, so what would have been a 15 minute queue, turned into a half an hour queue, but it was a highly comical half an hour queue, so I was suitably impressed! Mum and I spent our time running between the fastpass queue, the normal queue and just running around in general, we dont do well waiting in queues as you will learn, so we amused ourselves, ending in a sprint finish back from the fastpass queue... fastpass less I must say, I was NOT waiting in those queues, they were half an hour in themselves... back to the TSM normal queue to rejoin my brother and dad who were swiftly moving through the queue.

My awesome camera skills whilst walking enabled me to take these photos with minimal distress to the people behind, so enjoy...

Disney2008_0629021.jpg

this was supposed to be the walking talking animatronic Mr Potato head, unfortunately we think this may have been what broke down, so this is all we got to see, and indeed was all we saw for the rest of the 2 weeks we were there...

Disney2008_0629022.jpg

Here are the cars...

P6290006.jpg

The ride was amazing, infact the whole concept of it was amazing, the 3D-ness was awesome, I personally found it so much more enjoyable than Buzz Lightyear spin in MK, it was just far more enjoyable, the way the ride spins you and the effects you get are so much fun, mum and I could not stop laughing the entire time we were on it. It's also amazing for mum because she is someone who can't see 3D but she still managed to gain the highest score, beating all of us by miles...

Disney2008_0629026.jpg

Doesn't seem fair does it!! haha

After TSM we trekked it over to the Rockin' Roller Coaster to grab some fastpasses before heading to the Voyage of the Little Mermaid, now for my all time favourite disney film, I used to pretend I was here, ginger hair and all, I was a little disappointed, don't get me wrong it was amazing, but a little short, and it skipped over so many parts of the story, I can't help but feel if they made it slightly more like beauty and the beast it would be so much better, and a far better hit. But maybe that's just me?! :rotfl: After the Little Mermaid we went to use our FP for RnR, still love that ride, even though the one in Paris is better... has an extra loop at the end!

Suitably windswept we made our way over to pick out a prime viewing space for the parade, of which there were none, we were a tad late, so we made do with another spot, until they closed the walk way, then we jumped! Prime viewing spot- tick! This was one parade I was not gonna miss, I'd heard so much about it on Dis and it was the last ever showing, definately not to be missed! Pictures speak more sense than me, so enjoy!

Ok so the parade was amazing, I loved it! Time for lunch! (:rotfl:) To the Backlot Express....
This is the part where I scared my parents, alot. I took photos of our food, they weren't too sure as to why, but went along with it anyways! haha

This is my dad's hotdog (imagine the same for my brother!)...

This seems like a suitable place to stop... It's already taken me an hour to write this! I shall endevour to continue tomorrow! :)
Until then..... :hippie: (I don't know why I felt like putting him there!)

Great update!! Sounds like SWW was a blast...I love that pic of the stormtrooper pointing at you in the parade! Too funny! :rotfl:

so where were we... oh yes, we'd just finished lunch!

So after a filling lunch we decided to head to one of my brothers favourite shows, Muppets 3D, to allow our food to settle and to get out of the heat that had built up that we weren't quite used to with it being our first day. Now usually I don't mind 3D shows, but there is something about this show that means I can watch it once, and once only, I don't know whether it's due to the insane amount of times we saw it last time we went to WDW meaning that I know the storyline inside out, or whether I just don't have as much of a soft spot for the muppets as I do for the 'classic'' disney characters, but after one viewing I can quite happily not go back to watch this again. Never the less my brother, as was to be expected, loved it, and laughed the entire time, so all's well that ends well!

After Muppets we made our way back out into the heat and straight onto the backlot tour, one of my favourite rides. Although they have this ride in DLP, the speech is given entirely on video, where you have to wait for the French - English translation, meaning that you miss most of the 'exhibits' straining your ears to hear what they have to say, ironically about the exhibits you just missed. I also love the fact that in WDW they tag an extra little bit on to the beginning, the special effects tank, although I am wayyy to chicken to ever put myself up for it, I could spend hours laughing at the misfortune of those who are taking part and the general soaking they receive. Unfortunately, as is just my luck, on this particular day the special effects tank was broken, so we were ushered straight into the props room, and straight onto the trams. I, of course, sat myself the furthest from the left hand side of the tram as I could, and then watched as all those who realised it was wet on that side quickly moved themselves down the row so as not to get wet themselves!
I aimed to take the obiligtory pictures, but caught up in enjoying the ride only a few came out, enjoy...

Disney2008_0629112.jpg

Disney2008_0629120.jpg

After the Backlot Tour, we decided it was time to give in to a bit of star wars passion and headed for Star Tours, which we had gotten fast passes for earlier. I'm used to hearing the entire dialogue in french, so hearing it in English came as somewhat of a shock to begin with, but was very very welcome, I know the ride very well, where every bump, turn and crash will be, but the dialogue in English added that something extra to it that the DLP ride is missing (I'm aware it is only missing for those who can't speak french!). That being said, it definately needs a complete story upgrade, it's not as fun as it used to be now I know what's going to happen!!!

By the time we exited ST the Block Street Bash parade was on it's way up the street, so our plan to exit the park and get some well earned, and indeed needed rest from the sun and to recover from jet lag was a tad thwarted, so instead we decided to watch the parade.

It was a completely different parade to what I'm used to seeing at WDW, the constant stopping made it very difficult to see all the characters, however this could be something to do with the fact we were very near the end of the route, so we only really got to see the Toystory 'float' in all it's glory, I feel that if we had been further down the route we would have see alot more of it! However the music is so darn catchy we soon found ourselves dancing along, and at one point singing (eek!). Once again pictures speak more than words, so....

Disney2008_0629133.jpg

Disney2008_0629137-1.jpg

Disney2008_0629132-1.jpg

After the parade had finished we made our way back down the boulevard to take our much needed break, on the way I spotted an ice cream stall, and so as not to miss out, bought myself something I had been craving for a long, long time...

(I've just realised I need to go to work... to be continued!!)

Can't wait for the rest! Love the pics of all the SW characters. We are planning a trip for that next June, any tips?

Just found your TR. We were there a couple weeks before you. Funny, our pics of the Storm Troopers at rope drop are the same. Hope you continue this soon!

Great pictures! I liked Block Party Bash, too. The guy on the jumping things freaked me out though!

The journey back from HS as non eventful and after arriving back at the apartment/condo/hotel mum and I immediately made a b-line for the spa, just for our feet though, we couldn't be bothered to deal with the whole body experience... it was definately worth it though, we felt so much better after it!!

We decided that we would head back to DTD for some food, more specifically we wanted Rainforest cafe food. So to DTD and to the Rainforest cafe we headed, unfortunately when we left it was bright sunshine, by the time we arrived however, it was raining, and raining hard. We hadn't had time to buy poncho's, so we had to run, so run we did, only to be told that we had an hour wait, which we expected, so we ran again, this time to carry out some shopping. It was only then that I realised just how amazing DTD is, all the shops are linked, meaning that we could shop and stay dry all at the same time! :thumbsup2

In no time our hour was up so we made our way back to the Rainforest Cafe, however what greeted us was complete and utter pandamonium, the rain making it ten times worse. The staff who were stood in the purple elephant were completely swamped with people demanding tables and demanding to get out of the rain, which of course could not be done. As a result they were running a good 20 minutes behind what they had told everybody, and as a consequence everybody who had legitimate bookings were getting rather irate and annoyed. All in all combined with the rain, not a good combination at all. Finally after an hour and a half we managed to get seated at a table with menu's infront of us.

I love the theming of the rainforest cafe, it's so clever and sometimes so beautiful, from where we were sitting this is what we could see...

Disney2008_0630002.jpg

We ordered fairly quickly as by this time we were starving and despite the chaos outside the restaurant, we were served really quickly!!

Mum, Dad and I all ordered variations of the same thing, it was a wrap which had cheese, salad and steak in a sauce in it, (mine had chicken in it), here's a picture...

Disney2008_0630005-1.jpg

My brother had the ribs...

Disney2008_0630006.jpg

the food was good, and definately filled the hole, I wasn't able to finish it all though, my stomach took a little while to get used to American sized portions!!

We were too full for desert so we left and decided to make our way back to HS to see fantasmic as the rain had stopped, however as we pulled up in the car park, luck really shined on us and it started raining again. We didnt really fancy getting wet again so we went home and watched the 4th July firework rehearsal from our balcony, which was spectacular.

Disney2008_0630021.jpg

so that's our second day finished, I apologise for the drawn out finishin of it, I have been so so busy lately.

Next up.... Our day at Epcot :)

Can't wait for the rest! Love the pics of all the SW characters. We are planning a trip for that next June, any tips?

Oooh you'll love SW weekend!! Tips.. hmm, it will be hot, very hot, drink lots. We used Tour Guide Mike, he was amazing, we got on everything we wanted to and queued very little, definately go for him, he made our trip so much easier!! But all in all, enjoy it, we panicked so much about crowd levels and there weren't half as bad as we imagined, that being said, watch out for the brazillian tour groups, there are so many of them, and they swarm everywhere, but if you stay out of their way it's fine!!

Just found your TR. We were there a couple weeks before you. Funny, our pics of the Storm Troopers at rope drop are the same. Hope you continue this soon!

I love the Storm Troopers!! :)

Great pictures! I liked Block Party Bash, too. The guy on the jumping things freaked me out though!

I loved him, for some reason he took a liking to me too and kept continuously jumping infront of me trying to get me to jump with him!! :rotfl:

Thanks for your prayers! Mom is doing MUCH better, and Randy is healing up pretty well, too. I finally got time to stop by and read you TR! I've also found time to update mine! It looks like you guys had a lot of fun! I'm glad you took alot of pictures!

My family thought I was crazy taking pictures of the food too, but I warned them about it before we left home, so at least they knew what to expect!!:rotfl:

I can't wait for your next update!:surfweb:

UPDATE:
Just a quick update for you all as you maybe wondering where I've gone... I've just moved to uni last week so everything is all a bit hectic, on top of that I've realised that I've left all my photos from WDW behind on my old laptop, which is not very helpful at all, especially when I'm 5 hours away from home. My parents are coming up this weekend though so they're bringing them along so I can transfer and carry on writing my TR!!!
Sorry for the long long time delay!!

Hey guys just thought I'd drop by and explain the reason why this TR has ground to a complete hault.

As you may have read above when I moved to uni at the end of september I left all the pictures at home on my old laptop.... unfortunately, despite my brother transfering them onto a cd for me, me transferring them on to a cd and my brother trying again my laptop is just not recognising that there are any photos on the cd's... so I know how 6 useless cd's(2 per try!)

I'm in the midst of organising my photos so as to get my brother to email them up to me, but it is taking a while as I have to try and remember what I had! :headache:

I really do apologise for the delay but if you remain seated the ride will begin shortly!

Promise!!! :goodvibes:

Sorry to hear your are having such a hard time with your photos. I would be freaking out afraid I would lose them. Which reminds me, I need to put all of mine on CD!

Wahoo! After what seems like months and months of trying soso hard to get this TR up and running again I have finally succeeded... the photos, which I thought were lost forever (that's a totally different story in itself... to cut a long story short the computer had a major melt down!!) are finally on photobucket and ready to go!! So that means I can finally continue this TR a good 6 months after we went!!! so I hope you're all sitting comfortably because I'm going to begin....

Day 3 brought Epcot.... it's a sort of tradition in our family that that's the first park we head to first... now I know what you're thinking, why not MK, well I think it's something to do with the fact that the very first time we went to WDW that was the very first park that we ever went to, it makes it kind of special don't you agree, for that reason Epcot has always had a soft spot in our family and I see no reason to change that!!

Disney2008_0630028.jpg

Yet again I rallied the troops... yes by now I had firmly established who was in charge of what time we got up and when we left the hotel/condo... we drove into Epcot around about 8:30 again which left plenty of time for a slow walk up to the park, the expected jaw dropping moment when you first see the 'golf ball' and of course the liberal application of sunscreen in the rope drop queue!

Disney2008_0630030.jpg

Bringing the characters out to 'warm up' the crowd was amazing, although my one gripe was that we were too far back to see as much as I had liked, although this was quickly countered by the fact that the little girl infront of my got all the attention which was 1. an awesome thing to see, her smile was as wide as her face, and 2. allowed me to snap this pictures...

Disney2008_0630033.jpg

We, along with the rest of the crowd, headed straight for Soarin', after all we had had such luck with TSM why should we hit a snag here? (On a little side note I did hear a funny... a man went up to a CM mid surge and asks him which way to Soarin', to which the reply was... honestly Sir, I don't think you have much chance of going anywhere else!!)

We were greeted in the Season's cafe by a whole host of CM's clapping, banging drums and generally singing and dancing, it was fantastic, and a very good, 'welcome back to Disney'. This is the best photo I got..

Disney2008_0630034.jpg

It seems we weren't wrong in the luck stakes either, we departed from the throngs making a bee-line for the fast pass and instead made our way down to the front of the ride, all I can say is my oh my is that queing system long, it seemed to go on forever and ever, and we were taken through all the short cuts!!!

P6300001.jpg

P6300002.jpg

It seemed our luck had not departed from us and no sooner had we joined the queue we were on the ride, indeed as the CM proudly told us, we were the first rider of the 30th June 2008... hell yes!!!

I had read quite a lot about Soarin' and honestly wasn't all that impressed by the write ups, but now I can see they just don't do it justice, and in many ways I don't think they will ever be able to. The ride took my breath away, the realism of it all was amazing, and I joined the many others breathing a sih of relief when we made a close call with the trees, and ducking as the golf ball flew out to hit us, the smells were fantastic and the whole ride just brilliant!

After Soarin' we decided to try our luck and see how bad the FP times has gotten for TT, which it turns out weren't bad at all, we had about an hour and a half's wait so decided to pick some up and head over to MS (the orange kind!) and ride that. Now I love this ride, my family however do not. I love feeling the G's, my family do not. The one thing they do like doing however is pressing the buttons, and on that alone I was able to convince them, just this once, to ride orange with me. :yay: I thought it was brilliant... my family, especially my dad, replied with "green next time Laura!!"

Disney2008_0630036.jpg

Next went moved on to Ellen's Universe of Energy... 90% of the reason to escape the sun which our English bodies still hadn't got used to!! It's not a bad ride, just goes on for a long time, but we try to ride every ride at least once, so we found ourselves sat on the ride for best part of an hour learning the numerous different dinosaurs and climate control techniques!!

After that came TT, now I love this ride, and I mean really love it, it's a lot tamer than I remember it being, so far as it is a lot slower round the track, I don't know whether that's because being a driver myself now I know how quick things are, or whether it was because the last time I rode was when I was 14, that speed isn't quite so exciting now! None the less I still loved it! We were aware that this was the only ride we could pick up a photopass ride photo for, so we prepared ourselves with the faces we were going to pull. Unfortunately things did not go as according to plan as we had hoped and we ended up with 2 extra people in our car, who we obviously didn't want in our photo with us, and who weren't open to discussing the various faces we pull. Infact I don't think we could have gotten 2 more serious people, they were obviously a couple, but I think they were slightly annoyed at the fact that they were split up between the front and the back of the car, well if you do get in the single riders lane what do you expect?! The photo came out as my family pulling the most outragous faces we could, their faces... as straight as anything, not even a hint of a smile! Still it gave us an excuse to go back on again later!!!!

From there we made our way in to World Show case as by now it had opened and we were quite up for a leisurely stroll around the various countries, we were a bit ride-d out for the time being.

Stopping for a few photo's...

P6300010.jpg

P6300011.jpg

P6300006.jpg

However no sooner had we all agreed this we found ourselves in Norway, queing for Malestrom. The very first time I went on this ride, as I think it the same for many, I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the waterfall and proceeded to yell at my parents at how they had promised me it was just a boat ride, no chance of getting wet... I had water rides with an absolute passion, don't know what it is about them, I just don't like getting wet with clothes on, bazar aren't I? Makes my job choice slightly hypocritical, being a lifeguard and all that!! My parents just laughed at me, they had seen that bit from the outside and realised it didn't go down the waterfall, it merely turned round!! It still makes me heart leap out of my chest everytime I go on that ride now, even though I know what will happen there is always the vague possibility Disney has changed the ride for some reason!!! Upon getting off the boat we made our way into the theatre, only to follow the age old trick of following the last group out again, we were not in the mood to sit and learn about Norway!! I feel for sure the CM saw us, but I was sheepishly avoiding her glance, so I can't tell you for definate!!

As has been the case in many of my installments I shall end (and begin) on food... stay tuned!!!

So where had we got to... ah yes we'd just come off Malestrom! By this time it was about 12 o'clockish I think, so we decided that it was time, for our elevenses so off we headed towards America for a good old cake and coffee :) My brother and I chose a muffin to share as they were so big, my mum an apple danish and my dad a cinamon roll, they were heaven!! In hindsight my brother and I made a bit of a mistake going for the chocolate muffin, seeing as the Florida heat and chocolate don't really go, none the less it was good and we weren't complaining.

I only managed to get a picture of the mine and my brothers food, unfortunately I wasn't quite quick enough with my parents and by the time I'd got the camera out it had half gone!! But here is the muffin!
P6300014.jpg

After the gorgeous cake break we decided to walk around World Showcase for a bit taking in, and remembering all the sites and smells of the various countries. I do love World Showcase, although people mock it I do really like it, to be honest I have no idea why but it's nice just to have a break from the hustle and bustle of the rides and just explore!!

Home sweet home! :)
Disney2008_0630043.jpg

Disney2008_0630045.jpg

Once we were fully explored out we decided it was once again time to immerse ourselves in a little imagination, so we, of course, headed straight to Figment. I LOVE this guy, the song gets stuck in my head for hours mind you but I think I can deal with that... "It's not about listening with your ears... It's about listening with your imagination!... For every sound, your ears are hearing..." hahaha I love it!

Disney2008_0630049.jpg

Disney2008_0630050.jpg

After 'subjecting' my parents to possibly the worlds most annoying yet incredibly catchy tune (after IASW of course!) we decided to head over to Livig with the Land, briefly hoping on the way that we might try our luck in getting fast passes for Soarin'; we weren't holding out much hope but we had our fingers and toes and everything else crossed! Yet again the big Walt in the sky smiled down on us and the fast past timer wasn't late at all, infact it was 18:30-19:30, so we decided to go for it, result!! We managed to hit LWTL at the right point as well and walked straight on to a boat! Excellent!!

Now my most favourite part of this ride are the greenhouses they take you through too, and I almost thought we weren't going into them, for some reason what my brain remembered about the ride and what actually happened were two completely different thing, but I'm not complaining, it was a nice surprise!

This tree was my personal favourite...
Disney2008_0630058.jpg

Now after discussing this in AGPrincess' TR I had to take a picture of it myself, I don't know what it is about it but pineapples just don't grow like this in my head... is it just me!?
Disney2008_0630060.jpg

These tanks scare me too... aren't they angry with being cooped up in a small tank?!
Disney2008_0630063.jpg

I love the way these hang up!
Disney2008_0630066.jpg

and if you look closely... you can see one earning it's ears!
Disney2008_0630069.jpg

Next it was over to the sea's with Nemo and friends, now this was a totally new ride for us, when we were last at WDW it had something to do with a lift taking you underground maybe?! I don't really remember, just that it wasn't my favourite, I was hoping Nemo (being one of my favourite films) would make it better!
Disney2008_0630071.jpg

Disney2008_0630070.jpg

It was interesting... let's just say that. I can definately see how it attracts the young kids though, Turtle Talk with Crush was quite funny, one little kid got so excited he got selected!!!
