HI Everyone! :wave2:

I've posted here and there but never really introduced myself so I figured I would do so now. :cool1:

My name is Brandy and I am 27. My DB (I won't call him my DF yet, I'll explain why in a minute) is Brian and he is 30. We are both from good ole' New Jersey.

DB and I met through a mutual friend. He was living with his ex girlfriend at the time and I had just come out of a 4 year relationship myself and was kinda just having fun and meeting new people. We all worked at the same company just in two different locations and never even saw each other at work before. I went out to a bar with my friends and he was at the same bar with his friends - including out mutual friend! We started talking, I even met his then GF! A few months later they broke up and we got together....five years later and here we are!

Now...why I call him my DB and NOT my DF......after my dad passed away when I was 19 my grandmother got very ill. She basically gave up, I can only imagine what it is like to lose a child...anywho, when her health started to get bad she told both DB and I that she wanted us to use her wedding rings for our wedding and we agreed and started looking into wedding venues and all. After she passed, the family turned on each other! It's really a shame what happened. Now no one talks to each other and my uncle refuses to give us her rings even though he knew that's what she wanted. She didn't have a will. SO DB and I have decided to make it a joint expense and have been looking into rings for a few months now. After I finally gave up on my uncle changing his mind. He still wants to do a proposal so I told him I wouldn't call him my DF until he did that.

With all that said....we have decided on a Disney wedding and our ideal date is September of 2008. We chose Disney for a few reasons but mainly it was DB's idea! Who am I to argue! No way! My mom and her entire family lives in Florida so they have no problems with it, less traveling for them. The only family I want there from NJ is my brother, his wife and my adorable chunky monkey nephew.

I was thinking about SBP for the ceremony and can't make up my mind for the reception. I LOVE AA Rotunda but I know that I won't be able to get 100 people there so that's out. The Living Seas looks gorgeous from what I've seen in pictures so I think that is what I am leaning towards at the moment. I am really glad I found this site. Disneyweddings.com and the wishbook are OK but not really helpful to me.

Wow...this post turned out longer that I anticipted, sorry! Just wanted to say HI so everyone knows who I am now :)

Brandy

Welcome and Congratulations. I am looking forward to reading more about your wedding plans.

Sorry about the grandmothers wedding rings. I know the feeling. My family too has had a big falling out after my grandmothers death.

Welcome to the boards! Hope you have a great time planning your wedding (well, and your engagement!).

It's crazy how family can turn on one another isn't it? I should have gotten them from her before that but I really didn't think about it. I tell you the week my dad passed away they were in his house taking out the TV's, furniture, and things they wanted and left the rest for me and my older brother to clean and get rid of! They make me so mad

Well Congratulations! I wish you and your DBF a beautiful engagement.

Here is a link to some photos if you havent seen these-- they might be of some help

Hello fellow Jersian!

Its good to know that even in the midst of family turmoil - you have DB right? I have been there...we are lucky to have someone to stand by us when its hard to stand alone!

I fear the very same thing happening to my family when my Grandmother passes. Its gonna be rough!

Anywho! Congrats on the intent to get engaged and married! Yay for you! And double yay that you get to get married in Disney - I'm totally jealous!

Thanks! I will say this, YOUR TR is the main reason that we even THOUGHT of a Disney wedding. I've been going to WDW since I was a kid and always saw the WP but never really thought too much about WHAT exactly a Disney wedding would be like. Then I found these boards, right after your wedding , and because of your TR DB has said that he doesn't want to get married anywhere else! So...little did you know, you were already my new best friend! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Welcome! SBP is an excellent choice for a ceremony location, not that I'm biased or anything ;) Where in NJ are you? I'm from NJ, and even though I moved away 6 1/2 years ago, it's still my home :cloud9:

Happy planning! We'll happily help you with all your questions :)

I can't get over how many Jersian's are on these boards! That is so awesome! My family turmoil started way before I was born, it's just gotten worse and uglier! It's sad. My uncles are at each others throats all the time and since my dad was the oldest and passed away 8 years ago, they drag my brother in the middle of the fights as if he were our dad. I choose not to deal with them. I know they are family and all but you don't treat family that way. DB is there for me, we live together too but it's hard for him to understand because his family is very close. His parents have been married for over 40 years!

I read your planning journal and I'M jealous of your wedding! So far everything looks gorgeous! We spent about a day looking at reception halls in Jersey and that was enough for us to say no way, they are expensive!

congrats on your DFTW decision!!

Its a shame about the family situation, that happened to my mom when my grandma died...its amazing what some people turn into when possessions & money enter the picture

I remember when my other grandma died, everyone was dividing up her belongs a few weeks before she passed ....& I was like "who cares, thats not whats important".....how can people sleep at night

I hope things go smoothly & you have the best wedding ever

good luck & keep us posted:cutie:

We stayed at the BWI for a few days in December so I got the chance to go check out SBP up close and it really is a beautiful location. I get a little nervous because weather can be so unpredictable!

I'm in Central Jersey, Mercer County. (maybe 15 minutes from Princeton) I lived in Seminole Florida for a few years when I was younger but as much as I complain about this state....it's home

Hi Brandy and welcome to the boards..

My grandmother was in the hospital for a few weeks at the end and my uncles were hitting up the mac maching taking cash out because they said if she passed the banks would freeze her accounts?? This is what is important to you??? I couldn't believe it!

I certainly appreciate your honesty. I would rather have it told how it is for what it is and not sugar coated, ya know? I'm sure I'll be asking you a ton of questions in the upcoming months

I like November a lot too! I love the weather that time of year. The first trip we took together to WDW was in September so that's where that came from. I don't want to do October because my brother was married in October. My sister-in-law is a social worker for our local school district though so September might have to be changed.

How many people are you planning on inviting? I keep going back and forth between no one, immeditate family, and up to 50 people. :confused3

DH and I origionally had planned for a September wedding-- but due to lack of adequate time to plan-- we changed it to November. Dh and I went to September back in 2005-- we had a BLAST-- nothing but good weather and short lines! November turned out to be more than we expected though. It got colder the last day of our trip-- but it was still really warm most of the trip-- and beautiful- no rain! :thumbsup2

Right now my goal is September so hopefully it will work out. We had one rain shower but we were eating so we had no idea it was raining until the waiter told us! A few people posted on another thread that they've had terrible weather in September though so I don't know.

I LOVE Princeton! We'd always have track meets there in high school and every Christmas my friends and I make sure we go shopping around there. It's just so beautiful during the holidays

I'm from Central NJ too in, Holmdel in Monmouth County. There are tons of Jersey people on these boards, I cannot get over it :)
