Jiko at Animal Kingdom Lodge recently welcomed a new chef, who is making some changes to the menu. One change of note is that the "mac and cheese" is no longer offered with the filet. However, you can still order it as a side dish (and it remains on the kid's menu).

No mac and cheese with my filet?? Why would they do this?

:scared1:...:faint:

How new is this? I was at Jiko a week ago and it was still on the menu as i had the filet with the mac and cheese so if it has changed it must have been within the last week.

:( We just had the filet with the macaroni and cheese at the beginning of the month. It was AMAZING.

No way!!!!

I think they will change it back if this is the case. It is their signature dish.

If people love it so much they'll sub it in or order it as an extra side. No big deal. It is no longer automatically paired with the filet, that's all. It didn't disappear entirely. People are waaaaay over-reacting about this.

I agree and maybe the potatoes that it now comes with are yummy too!

We were there Friday night and the filet came with au gratin potatoes... I wasn't all that impressed, but the steak was still delicious!

I'm not big on mixing food, like putting steak on top of mac & cheese. The mac & cheese being separate is good for me.

I ate there on Friday, October 15th, and the mac and cheese was still part of the filet entree. Someone who ate there a couple days later said the potato gratin was listed instead of the mac and cheese. It was eventually determined that the menu must have changed on Saturday the 16th. (Postings back and forth on the Restaurants forum.)

This is not the first time I've heard of Disney restaurants playing with their "signature" dishes. I remember sometime around 2003 when I went back to Flying Fish that the red snapper was not on the menu. I think too many people complained, and they brought the dish back. It's been on the menu ever since.

Maybe if enough people are vocal about the mac and cheese, the chef will bring it back. It didn't affect me because I had appetizers as my dinner. (They were fabulous!)

I had noticed in May that most of the online sites did not have the mac/cheese or the filet listed. But it was on the menu when we were there in June, AND IT WAS GOOD!!! {{Drool}}

This is insane. Even if you can order it as a side, it still doesn't have that wonderful glaze that comes on the steak. That made it incredible. I hope they change this soon.

Why would you change the most popular entree'? I'm not opposed to change but "If it ain't broke, why fix it?"

I do not mean to offend anyone, but I never thought that steak with mac & cheese screamed AFRICA. :cheer2:

I actually would like a more ethnic taste of Africa. Potatoes au gratin still isn't it.

I had a wild boar appetizer. It doesn't get any more "Africa" than having Pumbaa on a plate with a spicy veggie accompaniment. ;)

(Ok, boar isn't warthog. Work with me here.)

I was just there on 10/23 and was very disappointed in my meal - I got steak and mac-n-cheese. I got the mac in place of the potatoes. This was my most disappointing meal of my entire trip. The sauce I was so looking forward to was a dab on the side of the plate.

Needless to say I won't be back. I think the menu change was a bad idea. If it isn't broke why fix it :confused3

If you look at Disney's online menu for Jiko, the Mac and Cheese is still listed.

:confused3

T.

It doesn't surprise me that Disney's information is out of date. Its not like they have all the resources of the DIS keeping their menus current. ;)

"Whaaaaaaaaat's on the menuuuuuuuuuuu? It's Pumbaaaaaaaaaaaaaa." ;)

Not every dish can be "authentically" African or you will scare away most diners since someone in nearly every family is going to want something "safe" to eat. The filet was/is that dish for Jiko. Not everyone likes heavily seasoned or spiced foods, but if most of the family does like that sort of thing you can all still enjoy a meal as long as there is something more "Americanized" on the menu.
