It's a secret!

I have asked my girls if they would want to be surprised or be in on the planning every trip. They think they want to be in on the planning. However, we are surprising them with Disney Princess on Ice on Thanksgiving weekend. The day after I ordered tix they did accidentally discover a highlights video on the Disney website...and now want to go. I just said "hmpf". They don't know it's coming to Des Moines. I'm hoping they won't see commercials for it. That will make it less of a surprise because they'll beg to go and then think they talked us into it when we arrive.

Have a great surprise trip!

How exciting! When I was about their age my parents did almost the same thing, but I found out first then asked her to come and she was already packed! One of the best and most memorable trips of my life. Have a wonderful time!

Have a great trip. I surprised my DS just last trip when he turned 3 and I hope that when he gets older we can surprise him again. We opted not to surprise him this year, since my DM is going, but I wish now that I had read your post months ago and we could have done something like that. Great idea.

I am so happy for you. We have a surprise trip also! We are going to pick up DD4 from preschool and just start driving. When she finally ask where are we going we get to say DISNEY WORLD.

Yeah!!!

I hope you have a wonderful time.

How awesome is this :cool1:! Have an amazing time and I am sure the look on their precious faces will be just priceless! I am actually planning on surprising my two kids for our trip to the world next October! How am I going to withhold my excitement will be beyond me, but I REALLY want to surprise them ! Depending on our flight time I either want to wake them up early and tell them the news or send my DD off to school only to pick her up a couple of hours later - with bags packed of course ;)!

We surprised our kids the first year we went. We left the Monday after Thanksgiving...but my Mom ALWAYS gives them a Christmas ornament on Thanksgiving day...so that Thanksgiving we did a treasure hunt...all disney theme related...the last note told them they were going to Disney on Monday...it took a while for it to set it...I do have it on video...I have not been able to pull of a surprise since then....however I hope to surprise my mother in law next year with a trip...but she will know a couple months in advance.

I am very excited for your family! We are doing the same thing. For fall break the kids ds12,dd9 and dd5 think we are going to the beach. DD5 has been begging my husband for a year to take her to Disney. For the last month or so every time she asks he tells her maybe when she is six. She says thats to long and says mommy will take her. She is a hoot. We are very excited they will not know until they see the Disney World sign. I can not wait! Our girls will love it and my ds will be turning 13 this trip so I think it will be a great family vacation!

Sounds like fun! Have a great time! :goodvibes

We surprised our kids once with a trip 2 days after Christmas. DD, who was 11 at the time was thrilled. DS, who was 6, had a meltdown because we hadn't finished putting together all of the presents he got for Christmas!

He did get over that initial shock though and we had a great trip!

I am so happy to read how others are suprising their children. We too are surprising our DS12 with a trip. We have told him we are going to Pigeon Forge/Dollywood for a few days in December. He is so bummed. He keeps comparing every activity we bring up in that area to something at DW that is soooo much better.

We are going a few weeks before Christmas and I plan on letting him open 1 Christmas gift the morning before we head to the airport, something for the trip. I am going to wrap our DW information in a box for him to open. I am not sure if he will jump up and down because we are going to DW :yay: or be upset because we tricked him . Trust me, he will get over it quickly though :rotfl:.

I cannot wait .

I'm going to move this over to our happy dance board. Have a great trip. your kids are going to be so excited!

To the OP and all others who are planning a surprise like this, I have one very important piece of advice: TAKE PICTURES when you tell your kids. We just did this for our Labor Day trip. We had to tell DD13 a week ahead of time due to school issues, and her reaction was great:

What was even better, though, was the reaction of our DD11, who we didn't tell till we woke her up that morning to tell her that she was going to WDW instead of school:

Of the hundreds of pictures from our trip, those are by far my favorites!

Have a great trip!!

What a wonderful surprise.

I'm keeping a secret from my DGD also. We are going on PCC 2.0 next year and staying a few days before to go to MK and MVMCP. What she doesn't know, is that I've booked the POLY for 2 nights. We usually stay at the All Stars, and this time she thinks we are going to try Pop. I can't wait to see her face when we pull up to the Poly and get off the bus. She is going to flip out.
